Xiao Yuan Shan, a Khitan, was traveling with his wife and baby son past Yan Pass when he was surrounded and attacked by martial arts experts from the Central Plains. His wife was killed in the bloody battle and in anguish, he wrote his will on the stone cliff before jumping off the cliff with the body of his wife, leaving behind his son, Qiao Feng.
30 years later, Qiao Feng was leading his men from the Beggar Sect, ambushing the Liao soldiers at Yan Pass and returned victorious with the enemy’s letter.
Murong Fu, from Gusu, collaborated with a Sung official to buy firearms. However, the official cheated him and was killed. Murong was worried about how he can revive the Yan Dynasty.
At Loyang, Kang Min, the wife of Ma Da Yuan, who is the vice chief of the Beggar Sect, was the centre of attention, but only Qiao Feng did not bother to spare her a glance. The Chief of the Beggar sect has the intention of passing the leadership to Qiao Feng, and as a last test, wants him to travel to their branch in Yunnan alone and defeat the 4 Villans.
The son of Dali’s Prince Zheng Nan, Duan Yu came upon a fight between Wu Liang Sword Sect and Shen Nong Cult and was captured when he tried to stop the fight. Zhong Ling released her lightning ferret to save Duan but was captured as well. Zuo Zi Mu made Duan eat Duan Chang San, a poison which will kill him in 7 days, and made Duan travel to Wan Jie Valley to get the antidote for the ferret’s poison from Zhong Ling’s father. Duan fell down a cliff on his way and accidentally made his way into a ‘Fairy’s’ cave.
In the cave, Duan acquired the martial arts manual for Bei Ming Shen Gong (a skill where he can suck another’s internal energy) and Ling Bo Wei Bu (very high form of Qing Gong)
At Wan Jie Valley, Duan asked Zhong Ling’s mother, Gan Bao Bao to save her but he managed to anger the father, Zhong Wan Zhong. Bao told Duan to bring Zhong Ling’s date of birth to his father, Duan Zhen Chun and to beg him to save Zhong Ling. She also instructed him to look for Mu Wanqing to borrow her horse.
When Duan heard that someone is trying to harm Mu, he returned to warn her and they escaped her enemies. Duan asked Mu to save Zhong Ling but was made fun of by Mu. After Mu killed 2 Ling Jiu emissaries, the 2 of them wore the emissaries’ robes and successfully rescued Zhong Ling. However, their enemies caught up with them and Mu forced Zhong Ling to run away while Duan stayed behind. Duan and Mu escaped to the top of a cliff, where Nan Hai Er Shen appeared and helped Mu fight off her enemies. In return, he demanded that Mu remove her veil so that he can see her face. Mu had made a promise that she will marry the 1st man who sees her face, so she decided to let Duan see her first and removed her veil in front of him. Just as Er Shen was about to force Duan to be his disciple, he heard a signal and went off.
Duan agreed too marry Mu. Just then, Er Shen reappeared and tried to force Duan to be his disciple but was rejected. Er Shen captured and ran off with Mu and Duan was later captured by Zuo Zi Mu abd brought back to Wu Liang Palace. Duan used his new found skills Bei Ming Shen Gong and Ling Bo Wei Bu to escape and during his escape, accidentally ate a poisoned toad, which, neutralized the poison already in his body and made him impervious to all poisons from then on. Zhu Dan Cheng & Ba Tian Shi came looking for Duan and fought with the 3 Villans. Duan finally found them and Mu was overjoyed.
Zhu Dan Cheng brought Duan & Mu back to Dali but they were attacked by Yun Zhong He on the way. While fighting him off, they came to a Nunnery, where Duan’s mother Dao Bai Feng was residing in. After defeating Yun Zhong He, Zhu Dan Cheng and Duan persuaded Dao Bai Feng to return to Dali with them and she had no choice but to agree. The people of Dali welcomed the return of the Princess. Duan Zheng Chun welcomed her personally while his brother, the Emperor (Duan Zheng Ming) waited in the palace. Just as the family were rejoicing at the reunion, Er Shen came in the night to force Duan to be his disciple again.
