Since you like it so much you should get the dvd then you can watch it at your own time.
I can understand why this series is so captivating even to guys.

This series was definitely well made. Those actors and actresses are definitely professionals. They not only had great film sets, great script/story, and big budget..... but the cast really knew what they were doing as well. It was the very first korean tv series I had ever seen, and at first I had to get used to the dresses that they wear.....the girls have the skirt part of the dress going all the way up to their armpits almost, which was kind of unusual looking. But then you get used to it.
Also, it was weird how the guys wear the big belts facing upwards so that the belt covers the emblems they have on their gowns. While the chinese wore their belts facing downwards, so the emblems on their gowns were never covered up or obscured hehehe
Another thing was.....it was amazing how the king and queen sat on the floor and the servants stood up above the king and queen (because they were sitting on the floor). In China, that would have been unacceptable maybe...since the king and queen are normally higher. Also funny thing was, the korean king etc sat on the floor a lot, and it wasn't as if they didn't have chairs! Amazing.
the dresses are ok its the hair i dont like very much. when they get older they wrap it around there head and it looks very ugly.Originally Posted by Kenny_Leong

Something I don't understand is how much time was Chang Jin in exile and spend the other times undergoing medical training. When she was posted back into the palace as a medical assistant, her enemies were already promoted as head of kitchen and another was head of palace servants. It should take her former colleague many many years to assume the post of head of kitchen since at the time when Chang Jin was exile she was suppose to be under 20, more likely 16. But now her colleague who is head of kitchen looks old whereas Chang Jin still looks young.
The timeflow in JITP is really weird.
hmmm...I never really noticed that. But wasn't her colleague older anyways?
But one of Jang Geum's friends told her that after she left, the Choi ladies got promoted all in a rush, since they used their family's "influence" to get them their positions. The friend also said that everyone older than Keum Young got moved to different positions, since it seemed wierd that the Highest Kitchen Lady was younger than everyone else.
Also, there was this one part when Jang Geum was studying medicine where they said that the classes would take place for so long, and the exam was a certain number of months away. So you kinda got the jist of how much time was passing by, but you didn't know exactly how long JG spent in exile.
I think it was 5 years since Chang Jin left for exile and then returned to the palace as a medical assistant. One of the characters mentioned that time frame.
In real life that would not have happened as you have to practically die in your position to be replaced and for someone to be promoted into your job, unless you screwed up badly.

She was exiled for 8 long years? The way the series ran it was like looking at one day at a time.

Jang Geum was 8 when she entered the palace, after 10 years she got into trouble and was sent to the herb farm. There was no direct reference to the duration there but she was preparing for the cooking exam which I guess would be 6 months(?), then the competition that decided who became the top kitchen lady, which could be months to years, then all the trouble started caused by lady Cui. I'm making a wild guess that it was 2 years, so she would be 21 when she was exiled to Cheju island. I remember Chang Do saying she was trained for 2 years, so she was at the island for 2 years, then a year of training for the palace ( There was a reference to the duration). She must be 24 or 25 when she went back to the palace. If they looked old it's because all of them were over 30 () and that hair did make them look old. DJG did not have that hair until she got back together with MJH.
such a fresh playback....lol...love it when people still talking about DJG. i never paid much attention to their ages......its ironic that ppl say everyone around her looked old while she still looks young when she returned to the palace.....Lee young ae was supposed to be 33 when she took up DJG, didnt she? it must have been the way everyone else was dressed...anyway, i wonder if the female casts wore makeups? coz from the close-ups that ive seen, its like they dont wear any, and their skin is like...porcelien....wow...sometimes i can even see the veins on JG's cheeks.....how does she keeps her skin young like that?

I just wish there is a time line for each chapter as although I know time in DJG is really flying, the way the story unfolds makes it seems like everything is taking place just day after day.
i love this show can anyone email me the eps plz and thx my email is sereanalibra

my fave part is when she takes her test she looks so cute on that and so smart too...
I just got to see this the second time around and it's just as good. I pay more attention to the love story between Sir Ming and Jang Geum this time. Their love story is the sweetest. Btw, the time Jang Geum spent on the island was about 2-3 years.
For those who plan to buy the viet dubbed dvds, I have a warning. I actually just recently bought the dvd set (viet dubbed version by DVE). It's really poor. For one, the discs don't really play in all dvd players. I have 2 toshiba and they only play in one. These are brand new boxes and there are marks on a few discs. There are two eps each disc and they don't have stops in each ep or even in the 2 eps length so you can't skip to the next section or the ep (if you want to). Basically they didn't do anything but record these eps into the dvds and slap and label on it. This is much much worst than the Taiseng releases. I'll never buy another DVE dvd again.

I have never been to Korea but those whom I've met seemed to have at least good skin. Many had flawless complexions. May be it's their food? They all seemed to have excellent skin in DJG, may be it's air brushed too? I watched Bae YJ in Winter sonata and his skin looked great but in Hotelier, it looked quite bad.Originally Posted by ghostdarTeal'c
Ok entering the homestretch of this very long but awesome series.
It's quite pleasant at this end as Chang Jin was released from the palace by the emperor before he passed away. She was brought to Min and 8 years past and they have a little but very smart girl. Chang Jin still itched to do the unheard medical treatment of actually cutting the patient open to cure them of their illnesses.
That caused the family to run away when they were chased by the villagers as well as guards still looking for them.
But, despite these problems it's obvious they were actually happy together living simply as village folks.
This screen capture showed Chang Jin in her old medical officer uniform with her daughter. The family was tracked down and requested by the Queen to return to the palace with their former official ranks reinstated.
