Default Being John Malkovich - care to explain?

I watched this movie last night. A very interesting premise, though I must admit that I don't really understand the meaning behind the movie, as in what exactly was the scriptwriter and the director trying to convey? Could anyone care to enlighten me on that? I'm sure my lack of understanding of the motivation behind the script was the main thing that left me baffled as to how I should view and approach this story.

But one thing's for sure, the performances by the cast was great .

I, er, don't really know what you want to know. All I can say is that anything written by Charlie Kaufman is unconventional so you can't really view it as a normal movie.

Hmmm.. ok, will try to narrow it down...

    1. What's the meaning of having it set in the 7 1/2 floor?

    2. Is there a significance for putting in a monkey with a traumatized childhood?

    3. What is the significance of having a portal into someone's mind, in this case a celebrity (ie. what exactly is the whole movie trying to convey?)

    4. What's with the part about speech impediment?

I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and absolutely loved it so I decided to give this one a go too. Turns out this one proved a little too 'deep' for me
