    Default Yeh Lut Chai

OK.. we have had many arguments about who is the best and all that. I think that YLC is one of the most underrated fighters in the Condor Trilogy, because we tend to compare him to the likes of the Yang Guo, Guo Jing and all the other greats. The guy was a pupil of one of the later greats, son in law of one of the greats and grand son in law of another great. He was also the Beggar Clan Leader at the end of ROCH. Also, wasn't there a part in ROCH where he met some of the CJ7 and it was believed that he could have equalled them individually or was that just a figment of TVB's imagination?

Can the guy be really that bad?

Who says he's bad? Who is underestimating him?

Its not that Yelu Qi suck, its just that YG is way way too good for someone in his generation. Yelu Qi already exceled. Even Li Mochou was shocked and surprised when she turned around to see a young man was the one who shot out a piece of debris at her with such force. Plus we don't get to see him prove himself as many times as we see YG.

It just seems that when people talk about the best fighters, he is just never mentioned...

Its just that he haven't done anything outstanding or defeat anyone notable on his own. Not that he can't, he's just not the main hero

i think that guy has some potential, among his peers, hes already 2nd best(behind yang guo). + he doesnt have yang guos luck in obtaining dugu's teachings. hes only got a few years of training from zhou botong when he was a kid and he did pretty well. + hes got khitan blood, that should count for something

Probably by the fans who get it into their heads that if a character doesn't reach Greats level by the end of the story, then he/she is somehow a "failure". I can't and won't name names any more than shadow8899 has, but shadow's concerns are not unfounded. Many times at this forum and at the cinple.net Wuxia Novels Forum, I've read remarks about Yeh Lut Chai's supposed "inferiority" because he didn't attain the high levels of his father-in-law Gwok Jing, his teacher Chow Bak Tung, or his comrade-at-arms Yeung Gor. This is probably not fair to the character, but that stigma has become attached to him nonetheless.

YLC never had as many greats or eminent figure provide guidence in his martial arts development. YG just about had every great teach him something whereas YLC only had ZBT, HR and GJ(he was never a good teacher). In YG's generation he probaly was second or third best.

I think Chen Ying is usually vastly under-rated.

Of the female characters in ROCH, Ching Ying might rank about 6 if you count Lam Chiu Ying and Kwok Seurng at their peaks. She and HYS both said that she was not martial arts learning material...
