Outside of the hall, Ma Chun Hua can't help but to feel some resentment towards her father. “Dad, he was beaten up so cruelly, why didn't you save him, but instead ordered him to be flogged until he confesses? To this Ma Xin Kong replied, “the hearts of the people of Jianghu( martial world) are cruel and evil, what could a little girl like you know?”

Ma Chun Hua could not really understand the meaning behind the words of her father. That night, the thoughts of blood covered Hu Fei filled her mind, and she kept on tossing and turning in her bed, not being able to sleep at all. At around the 4th watch, she tip toed her way out, and took out a bottle of Golden Wound medicine from her sack, and headed towards the direction of the training hall.

At the porch of the hall, she saw a figure pacing back and forth, sighing long. From the sound alone, she recognized the figure as Shang Bao Zhen. At that same moment, he had also noticed Ma Chun Hua, and halted his steps. With a low voice, he asked, “Miss Ma, is that you?” “Yes, why haven't you sleep yet?” she replied.

Shang Bao Zhen shook his head, “with what had happened today, how am I be able to sleep well? What about you, can't you not sleep as well?” Ma Chun Hua relied, “My feelings are the same as yours, unable to get pass the incidents of late, and my heart grieves much over it.” The incident that she referred to was the torment of Hu Fei, but Shang Bao Zhen thought that she was referring to her betrothal to her father's disciple. When he heard the words 'My heart grieves much over it', his body shook, and he thought, “so she likes me as well, her betrothal to that Xu idiot was an unavoidable thing arranged by her father, and can't be refuted.” His courage swelled up, and stepping up to her, calling out softly, “Miss Ma!”

Ma Chun Hua said, “Hn, Master Shang, can I request something of you?” To this Shang Bao Zhen answered, “Why must you beg of me? Anything that you want me to do , I'll do it for you. Even if I am to die here this instant, digging out my heart for you, wouldn't even be a problem.” The passion of these few words of his were as hot as boiling water, he had wanted to say these few words for quite a long time, but he had not the courage to do so. Up till now, the meaning of his words were already empty, but he could not have anticipated that Ma Chun Hua would pour out her problems to him on a night like this, and so he could not help but to blurt out his heart's will out on her.

Ma Chun Hua was unnerved at hearing his words. He had always acted so formally towards her, and had always carried himself like the master of a noble house, and she had assumed that it had always been his nature. She could never have expected that he would have such deep feelings for her, and she was touched. She replied, “Why do I want you to die for?” Shang Bao Zhen looked all around him, for he feared that staying for too long would result in them being seen by others. So he whispered, “Its not convenient for us to talk much further here, why don't we go outside instead?” Ma Chun Hua nodded, and both of them darted over the wall of the manor.

Shang Bao Zhen held her hand and walked on until they reached under a row of large ' Scholar's' trees., and then they sat down side by side. Ma Chun Hua then withdrew her hand gently from his, “Master Shang, are you willing to promise me the thing that I'll ask of you?” Shang Bao Zhen reached out his hands to take hers, “you just have to say out what you want of me, there's no need to ask.” Ma Chun Hua tried to free her hands again, and said, “I beg you to release Ah Fei, and don't trouble him again.”

At this moment, theres a bit of movement at the top of the tree they were sitting under, but neither of them had noticed it. Before she had voiced out her request, Shang Bao Zhen was thinking about the intimacy between Madame Miao and her lover Tian Guinong, and he had hoped that Ma Chun Hua would ask him to elope with her. But instead she had asked him to free the petty thief, and he was greatly disappointed. He stayed silent. “What about it, do you consent?” “Since you would have it so, so be it, the least I'll get would just be a scolding from my mother.” Ma Chun Hua was elated at his answer, and thanked him earnestly. Then she stood up and and continued, “so we'll go and free him now?” But Shang Bao Zhen pleaded, “Why don't we sit here just a bit longer?” Ma Chun Hua thought that since he had promised to grant her request, it would be inappropriate to deny this whim of his, and so she sat back down. Shang Bao Zhen then asked, “Can I hold your hands?” She knew that the feelings he had for her was futile, but she also pitied him, and so she smiled and held out her hand for him to hold.

Shang Bao Zhen lightly held her small, soft and smooth hand, and was extremely touched, his tears nearly spilling out. A while later, Ma Chun Hua said, “how pitiful it must be for Ah Fei to be hung up for so long. Why don't you let him go first, and later I'll let you hold my hand for a bit longer.” As she said this, she withdrew her hands again and stood up. Shang Bao Zhen sighed and also stood up.

Suddenly the branches on top of the tree shook, and a black figure leaped down and laughed, “There's no need to do so, I've already gotten out a long time ago!” Both Ma and Shang were startled, but when they saw for sure that it was Hu Fei that they saw, shock turned to curiosity, and both of them asked, “Who let you out?” Hu Fei laughed again, “Why must I need to be freed! I can go out whenever I want.”

Actually when Hu Fei's pressure points were struck by Madam Shang, they were automatically cleared after 8 hours. Both chain and rope can't hold him off for long after that. He used the art of the contortionists to release himself from his bonds. Although the whip cut deeply into him, he was lucky that apart from superficial injuries, none of his tendons and bones were injured. On his way to rescue Ping Ah Xi after relieving his arms and legs, he heard the sounds of them both talking and leaping out of the wall. Curious, he followed suit and leaped onto a tree to eavesdrop on them. Because his art of levitation is good and the fact that the two were absorbed in the conversation, Hu Fei's movements went unnoticed.

Shang Bao Zhen could not believe it when Hu Fei told him that he escaped on his own. His suspicions flared, and he thought, “that there must have been other spies in Shang Manor!” He leaped up and made a grab for Hu Fei's chest. Hu Fei, who had received hundreds of his lashes, would think of nothing less than to get back at him. His body darted, left and right arms were unleashed like arrows. Pak! Pak! Pak! Pak! Four slaps landed on Shang Bao Zhen's face.

Shang Bao Zhen tried to raise his hands to block. Hu Fei's left fist swung out, and when the blow was about to be blocked, with a bang the right fist landed on his nose instead. Bright blood flowed freely, and Shang Bao Zhen cried aloud. Hu Fei then followed with a swipe of his leg. Shang Bao Zhen leaped 10 feet high to evade the blow but he did not expect that the attacks would continue and another leg struck him while he was still in mid air. The kick caused him to fall down and roll over the ground. The attacks were swift, and before Ma Chun Hua could clearly see what was going on, Shang Bao Zhen was punched and kicked and was already lying sprawled on the ground.
Hu Fei was still not satisfied, but he knew that Ma Chun Hua would surely intervene if he was to attack anymore. He wanted to show his gratitude for Ma Chun Hua's good intent, and as a gentleman, be able to differentiate between his debts and grudges. He knew that once she objected, he would surely not be able to refuse her. With a sudden, he clapped his hands, and said, "The Dog Thief surnamed Shang, do you still dare to come after me?" As he said this, he sped away.

Shang Bao Zhen thought that the reason he was struck so squarely by Hu Fei was due to the shock over the boy's sheer speed, and that he had been careless and he had underestimated his opponent. He never could have believed that a mere child could overcome his family's mysterious Ba Gua(Eight Trigram) martial arts with his beloved watching him. How could he? Immediately, he picked himself up and went after Hu Fei.

Hu Fei's lightness art exceeded Shang Bao Zhen's by a long mile. He ran and stopped intermittently, baiting him on as he got closer and closer. In the blink of an eye, they had covered a distance of 7-8 li. Although Ma Chun Hua tried to follow, she was already left far behind. Hu Fei slowed down, and said, "The one surnamed Shang, this day young senior(referring to himself) fell for the devious tricks of your mother, and had suffered your insult, but now is the time for you to experience the real abilities of this young senior." As he said this, his body jumped swooped down upon Shang Bao Zhen like a large bird.

Shang Bao Zhen had never seen such a stance of attack before. Frightened, he quickly evaded. Hu Fei, missing him, his feet touching the ground lightly, before turning around and rebounded upon him again. This time around, Shang Bao Zhen wanted to evade him again, but found out that he would not be able to do it in time. Left without a choice, he shouted, "Good!" and retaliated the coming blow with his palms out, utilizing his family's most renowned martial arts the Ba Gua Zhang(Eight Trigram Palms). Hu Fei's left hand responded by grabbing his wrists instead, pulling it and twisting it, causing him intense pain. But luckily Shang Bao Zhen had managed to pull both of his palms back fast enough, because if he did not do so both of his wrists would have been broken. At this moment, Hu Fei's left fist flew straight and struck Shang Bao Zhen's right chest, while his leg hit him squarely in the stomach. This is Hu Fei's first real try at the martial arts that were handed down to him by his father, and unexpectedly it had given him complete victory.

Now, Shang Bao Zhen was all hunched up together, his hands trying very hard to protect his had and face. He could only wait to get hit, and was not able to do anything to retaliate. He could not even use half a stance of the martial arts that he had trained so hard for the last ten years of his life. Hu Fei's left leg feigned a kick, and when Shang Bao Zhen tried to avoid it, his right leg lashed out, hitting Shang Bao Zhen's 'Capital's Gate' point. Shang Bao Zhen's steps faltered, and he plopped down on the ground. Hu Fei tore of his own upper garment, rip it to ribbons to make ropes, and used it to tie Shang Bao Zhen up the same way that he was tied before. He was going to hang Shang Bao Zhen up a willow tree by the roadside, but he was small and his strength was not great enough to pull him up the tree. So he picked up a great tree branch and used it as a lever. With a great shout, "up you go!" he exerted the strength of both of his arms and flung him up the tree, where he ended up stuck between the branches.

Hu Fei broke up 7 or 8 fine willow branches and made them into a rough whip of some sort. He flicked the whip towards Shang Bao Zhen's head. Shang Bao Zhen was both angry and terrified at this, and he knew that he was getting a payback for what he had done; an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. He had no choice but to bit his teeth and endure his torment. After about 30 to 40 lashes, Ma Chun Hua finally caught up with them. As soon as she saw what was happening in front of her, she was shocked speechless.

Hu Fei smiled, "Miss Ma, you need not to plead or beg for him, I'll let go of him now." As soon as he said this, he laughed aloud. Although he was just a young child of about ten or twelve, he has an air of a great hero about him. He threw his willow whip away, and went away in big strides. At this point, Ma Chun Hua cried out, "Little friend, who are you?"

Hu Fei turned around, and answered aloud, "Since Miss had asked, it would not do if I don't give an answer. I am the son of the great hero Hu YiDao, Hu Fei!" After he said this, he laughed out long and loud, and a little while later his figure disappeared behind the willow tree.

"I am the son of the great hero Hu YiDao, Hu Fei!"

His person was already gone for a long time, but the echoes of that sentence still reverberated and hummed strongly around them. Shang Bao Zhen from atop the tree, and Ma Chun Hua who stood under it, were still in shock at what had just happened.

After a while, Ma Chun Hua shouted up, "Master Shang, can you get down?" Shang Bao Zhen struggled with his bonds, but he could untie or break the makeshift ropes that held him. He was ashamed of himself, but how could he admit his shame? Conflicted, his face swelled up and reddened, and he did not answer her. Ma Chun Hua said, "Don't you move, or you'll fall down. I'll come up and help you." With a leap, she went up and tried to reach for a nearby branch. But even the lowest branches were too high for her, and she failed to grab any of them. Left without much choices, she started to climb up the tree trunk with her hands and feet.

Halfway up the tree, the sounds of hoof beats could be heard from the north, and from afar a group of people could be seen. Dawn was already breaking, and the sky was just beginning to lighten up. Ma Chun Hua thought to herself, "Why would anyone would be traveling in haste at such a time like this?" In the blink of an eye, the entourage had reached the base of the willow tree. The group consisted of nine people on horseback. When the nine saw that there's a young woman climbing up a tree, they felt strange, and so stopped to watch. Ma Chun Hua was a bit annoyed by them, and said, "What are you looking at? Just leave and be on your way!" But the group seemed not to care, and when they saw that there was a young man tied on top of the tree, they were even more mystified.

Fret not, I'm still working on it, though my pace is now slower than that of a snail. But you can expect some updates within the next two months.

Halfway up the tree, Ma Chun Hua breathed in, rushed up and in mid air caught hold of a branch, and using it as a springboard she jumped up and reached Shang Bao Zhen's side. Two of the men who watched from below applauded, and praised, "Good skills!" Ma Chun Hua quickly untied Shang Bao Zhen, and asked him quietly, "Are you hurt?" Her words were full of concern, and Shang Bao Zhen hearing it, was greatly consoled. Said he: "I'm fine." With a swing of his hand on one of the branches, he borrowed the rebounding strength from the branch and jumped down lightly. Ma Chun Hua followed suit, but when she saw that the nine men were pointing and gesturing at her in a rude way, she was angered, and she eyed them with unfriendly eyes.

The nine consisted of both young and old, richly dressed, straight backed and fiery in nature. Standing in the middle of this group was a young man fair of face, exceptionally spirited, good looking and very much well mannered. He looked at about 32-33 years of age. He was wearing a shining blue gown and a small hood cap of (melon skin?). The center of the cap was sewn with a inch wide jade piece. Ma Chun Hua had been around with the escort company for a long time, and knew the value of precious things. Although she and the group of men were separated by a distance of a few meters, she could still see the sheen of that particular piece of jade, and guessed it to be a very valuable treasure. It's a wonder that he would so casually sew such a jade on his cap, and yet feared not of losing it. With her curiosity piqued, she stole him a few more looks.

The young man saw her as an attractive and fetching young woman with good martial arts, and his heart was stirred. He whispered to a middle aged gentleman beside him, and the man laughed and said aloud, "this petty thief must have stolen something, and that is why he was hung up from so high a tree." Another old man laughingly asked, "What do you think he had stolen? Why must it be his sister that had to come and save him?" The tone of his voice was flirtatious, and he carried a lecherous demeanor.

    [To be continued....]
(I'm now reediting the past chapters. Will post new materials very very soon. By the way, this post is to tell the folks out there that I'm still alive, and the above, I think, should be a taster of sorts)
