    Default LOCH Chapter 10

Hello people! I've been following the LOCH thread for quite some time and also doing translations of my own. Since Chapter 9 is currently in the works (and almost done though not quite soon, I believe), I've decided to post Chapter 10 in this new thread for sequencing purposes. I'll probably post just this one chapter to give the translators some air. You guys are free to correct any mistakes I make of course. Text is based on the one found on www.qiqi.com.

"Marksmanship" should changed to spear style/spearplay/technique.

    Otherwise nice job

Oh. Well, since it's the term used in the other thread, I thought I'd use it, too, just to be uniform. But duly noted. Thanx.

Great job! Sorry for my petty hunt for omissions, but some might lead inconsistency to the story, and in turn, others will hopefully help you get the hang of JY’s narratives.

    2nd Paragraph

As she raised her head, she saw him flung against the wall, causing her to cry out.

She raised her head and abruptly knocked against the wall, [peng], and collapsed.

    still holding the spear

    Withdrawn the spear

    her body covered with blood

Her whole forehead covered with blood

    Remorse filled him

As he suddenly saw this big change

    3rd paragraph

    "The Lone Wild Goose Excels,"

[Lone Wild Goose Leaving Group] (Not 100% sure if I’m right on this one)

    heading towards his chest

    heading towards his back

    was invincible

    battle array was unmatched

    grasp the spearhead

grasp the shaft of the spear

he was actually using some elements of the "Hui2 Ma3 Qiang1" but had to improvise a little. Originally, when he grasped the enemy's
weapon, he only needed to send out his right hand as the iron spear drew closer

it was indeed "Hui2 Ma3 Qiang1"’s 3rd variation. His right hand was supposed to have already grabbed hold of the spear and strike him head-on, before he(Yang Kang) had a chance to pull it back. (My own bewildered interpretation, any 前 輩 請 指 教!)

A pity your shifu did not teach you this

I assume your master didn’t teach you this.

    Paragraph 5

    Peasant boy

    Unreasonable shrimp

    Paragraph 6

I only saw the Twin Corpses of the Dark Winds a few times

I’ve never seen Twin Corpses of the Dark Winds before

how can they match my shifu?

Why do they deserve to be my master?

    cheat their elders

betray their master and a denied their ancestry

    Paragraph 7

    I don't mind

    No need for your compliments.

outside of Tibetan Monk Ling Zhi and Ouyang Ke

besides Tibetan Monk Ling Zhi and Ouyang Ke

    Paragraph 8

"Then you'll help me with these old men who insist on being unreasonable."

You’re not like the rest of those old fogies who are so unreasonable.

    Paragraph 9

with the support of his shifu's younger brother

with the support of his uncle

dressing them up in white robes

dressing them up in white robes disguised as men

    Default Chapter 10 (Part 2-5)

HANKY PANKY: Thanx for that correction. I was kinda wondering why Bao Xirou was suddenly covered in blood. I thought Yang Tiexin was wounded and she "kind of" fell over him but nowhere in the text was that implicated. You cleared some things up for me.

This one is shorter than the last.

yeah, its just that "marksmanship" seem very out of place. The Chinese character for spear and gun may be the same but we all know that they're two very different weapons lol Alot things would be very different if the Yangs actually use guns in the novels. They'll be invincible.

LOL. Yeah. I can just imagine the Yangs using pistols. Better yet, machine guns!

Haha, lecherous Ouyang Ke.. but I kinda like him though.. there's something about bad boys that makes your heart flutter LOL

Anyway, from your descriptions his kung fu (and charm) seemed to be much better than what came out in the 1982 adaptation. I think the book version of Huang Rong is prettier too!

Will come back to read part 2 & 3 tonight!

No hurries. I'm stagnating. I still got 9 paragraphs to wade through for part 4 of chapter 10.

Thank you so much Rayon - this novel is getting better and better with each chapter.
The misguidence of the evil old hag and her life story was really touching.

    And of course

Guo Jing is the man! In fact I cried a bit reading his devotion to Rong er.

It is too bad that men like him don't exist in real life.

Guo Jing is indeed the quintessential hero. I can't make up my mind whether he's a complete idiot or so incredibly good that he can't conceive of doing anything bad. I think he's not dumb though. Simple maybe because he's so singular when it comes to doing what's right.

Yes this is what I think too, the world is full of people who are trying to show off whatever they got (and sometimes fake the things they don't even have) an unpretentious, kind hearted man like Guo Jing is considered as dumb.
He gave his precious horse to Rong er without even thinking for a second - I think this a heroic act too.

And the fight scenes are so cool in this section! I know I said it before but I'll say it again, this is the best martial art novel!

thank you so much Rayon, I were not expecting the update, it was such a pleasant suprise

No problem. But I think I'm done with translations for now. I'll let traveller or whoever is equal to the task do their stuff. They're much better at it anyway.

Your translations are great Rayon! I read chapter 10 and found myself having to check my understanding against your translations.

Retire. That's, uhm, funny. No really. I need to stop. Real life calls. I'll just be visiting and when the urge hits me, I'll translate again.
