I agree that Legend of the Condor Heroes 2003 should be the next to be subtitled to english.

But what's the purpose of redoing the english subs for Demi Gods & Semi Devils 2004 when that is out on dvd with english subs already.

My only complaint so far on the 1st episode of Laughing in the Wind that I saw was that the end credit song did not have english subtitles running for it.
I hope Knighmedia will get that fix for the dvd release. Other than that, I really enjoyed the english subs for the first episode.

I watched some of it; the subtitling quality is -excellent-, I must say, and very faithful to both the 'letter' and the 'spirit' of the original wording. Thumbs up to you.

Hi -the sub titles for the end song were not made available and with music rights and lyrics, it was not included in our sub title agreements and contracts. Other than that, thank you, as we also think the Subtitles are actually pretty decent.
The price point is being discussed. We think that for a two DVD set, including the Special edition Collectors book of photos and story, we are thinking about $39.95, for the 10 episodes; less than other sets in the market, that do not even have English subs already.. and in some cases, you might find the product on sale for $34.95 at retail. There will be four volumes total available, and then the full boxed set of all episodes by next June.

I caught a glimpse of the 7AM show and the translation was great !

    Good job Knight Media.

To answer the question about Demi Gods & Semi Devils series. Yes, it's available online through eBay and a number of Chinese specialty websites, but the translation is not exactly what I would call 'decent.'

The same could be said about the HSDS 2003 translation, which was horrible, but of course, this series doesn't worth any investment at all, not unless you're Alec Su's fans or just want to see all beautiful women.... but you don't need the translation for these

Well, it wasn't brilliant, but was fairly decent. Quite a few typos, but by and large the grammar was okay, although I personally would have translated certain names differently. Cosmos Sect indeed... sounds nice, though.

It was certainly miles ahead of those subtitles we get from movies.

Really, if it were possible, I would rather have LOCH 83' translated (or is it 86') than LOCH 2003. I saw a few episodes of LOCH 03 and disliked it already compared to the previous one.

1)The Huang Rong in 2003 is not Huang Rong at all. I mean, her first appearance is awful, and unimaginative. We don't see her wit, slyness and brattiness. When Huang Rong first appeared in the 1983 one, we not only say her slyness at tricking Guo Jing, but also saw her brattiness and deception and her always-getting-into-trouble ness. But in the 2003 one, she just appeared as a person who always gets into trouble. The character isn't as well developed, and Huang Rong's character is the most important one to develope.

2)The Guo Jing in 2003 is retarded, and really, Guo Jing is suppose to be slow and kind-hearted, not retarded.

3)They always have the couples spinning around falling down. Ahem...Huang Rong's first appearance. It's cliched and wastes time having the couples in super slow motion.

4)This plot is so jumpy. I mean, most Wu Xia series are jumpy, but this one is apparently jumpy, while other ones, you at least have to think to make it jumpy. Ex) Yang Kang's wife had this thing about cutting her hair and the knife and all of this, and then one minute later after she ran away and Guo Jing and Huang Rong so concerned, Huang Rong says, "Let's go to Tao Hua Dao." Jumpy?

Okay, I could go on and on, but the main point: I don't think that this version should be subbed. If anything has to be subbed, I think Shen Diao Xiao Lu, the new one coming out starring Liu Yi Fei should be subbed. And Tian Long BB, I don't know, but I heard that the previous subs aren't good. One could also want to sub some other Wu Xia not by Jing Yong. Like The Handsome Siblings, the Tale of The Fairy and the Sword, or even modern day ones, like Outsides... But of course, I'd perfer Jin Yong to anything any day!

The price quoted by Amazon is the cheapest online.

But I smell a real rat. 500 minutes on 2 DVD when the original VCD is at 40 discs?
Even if you cram 6 chapters into 1 DVD it is still 6 DVDs. So this version is likely a shortened version. So beware.

That set is just for the first 10 episodes so 500 minutes is about right and that is alot for just 2 discs, I wonder how good the quality is.

It looks like a dual layer disc. Shud hav enough space for 5 series plus the subtitles n few different languages together with few special features.

    Cheers!

wow, Laughing in the Wind sure is different from Smiling Proud Wanderer.

I dont think its a bad title, just takes time to grow on me; like Smiling Proud Wanderer did.

for vietnamese people, there are the viet versions on eBay.

Yah that series has several different names. Another one is something Cold Hot Proud........

Btw, not interested in buying it in bits and pieces. Asked a SG retailer who get his stocks direct from his China contacts to source for the Chinese DVD which should now be on discounted sales in China.

Yes I will definitely post the info here once they get the stock in. That series is imo the best tv wuxia if you can accept the liberties the screen writer took with the original novel. Some can't accept the changes and condemned the series w/o even watching it.

Hmm... I should look into getting the DVDs. I've been testing my nearly non-existent Mandarin watching original version on Fairchild TV.

Laughing in the Wind. I like this title much more than "The Smiling Proud Wanderer".

Surferket, with so many good comments about this series, I can't wait to watch it. Any idea when the dvd/vcd will be in Singapore?

No idea but I've been bugging the shop Veego at AMK central almost every day....hehehe...

This Xiao Ao series was shown on Channel 8 before but during weekday afternoon.

Same director as LOCH and TLBB but was his first adaptation. Can tell cause these 2 series music got borrow from XAJH. Li Ya Peng in this show not the stupid retard in LOCH but very yi chi. I lend my vcd set to a guy working at TS Video and he also want the DVD set now. His manager used to criticise this series because it changed from the book series so he thought the series is lousy but after watching the first few charpters he said it's still the best wuxia pian compared to all others. Chinese Paladin all no fight.

Just don't compare it to other past XAJH or the author's original script and watch it with fresh eyes. The scenery is so fantastic you should watch only the DVD. The director really put a lot of effort into this series.
