y leafs should hired bowman in the summer of 07 (when bowman offered to take over)
    1) bowman is one of, if not the most, knowledgable hockey mind in the world. y would u not want him to run your team?
    2) bowman have connections and respect from the hockey world, therefore he can lure or convince other great hockey people to work for the leafs.
    3) he is for sure better than jfj, y not upgrade?
    4) there was no indication dat burke wanted to move from anahiem, where he just won the cup.
    5) hiring bowman shows the team wanna build a championship team, which at least gives hope to the fanbase. jfj have no direction, he doesnt know wether to rebuild or contend, and the leafs r stuck doing nothing and continue to be medicore.

i didnt hear bout philly wanting sundin, its always been forsberg for philly (from wat i heard and read). they have too many centers anyways, w/ forsberg in they have no room for sundin. tho i hope van can land forsberg tho, cost them no asset but money. sundins gonna cost an arm and a leg, if last yr's trade deadline trades r any indication.
sundin would be good too, hes still a great player and can put up pts. but i dont wanna give up the assets to get him. they'll probably ask for edler or bourdon + 1st round picks. we'll cripple our future if we do dat, altho we'll also become a favortie w/ dat trade.

well the leafs have fletcher back and i think JFJ isn't gonna have a long and good career... leafs screw over a lot of ppl. ne ways all star game was probably one of the better one in years but still need to fix some things. first of all, don't try to sell it to southern US anymore its not working. and the weekend is really not that great where its placed in the regular season schedule, i say stick it right b4 the season starts or when the draft pick is so you get ONE massive party!!! Bettman bringing games to Europe is almost to me a desperate move since sweden and russia opted out of the IIHF agreement with the NHL. i have no comment on it, but the victoria cup is a sweet idea! The skills competition needs to add a couple more events dont know what but its great so far, and WOOT WOOT horcoff fastest skater! that's right!!!!! well back to studying got a midterm soon... and been getting into a relationship problem, sigh since like only hockey can make the day better! haha

i actually thot the all star game went pretty well, i was really into the game itself. i know its fashionable to bash everything the nhl (and bettman) do, but i gotta say dat this one is a success. the skill competition was good too. the "slam dunk" contest was pretty fun, altho some guys were surprisingly uncreative (datsyuk, kovalchuk, i expect more from u guys). ovechkin was the only one dat try something special. next yr i hope they practice more entertaining moves, mabbe invite schremp up just for it. and keep the goalies in the crease, they shouldnt be allowed to come out and pokecheck. and horcoff isnt the fastest, he lost to kovalchuk. the time keeper just messed up, and have horcoff race against the slowest skater from the east (campbell).

Yeah, the all-star game was not as bad as I expected. Nabokov just had to poke check St. Louis twice...the commentators on my channel feed was mentioning how St. Louis planned to score on his stomach. He didn't even get the chance as the goaltender poke checked him.

I expected more from Datysuk in the trick shots competition as this guy has so much talent (aka. the goal against Vokoun)

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=tNBof52g1Os

I'm an Oilers fan, so I was hoping Horcoff would win the fastest skater contest. But you are right, Kovalchuk won that race. I don't know how the timer works. There was supposed to be a re-match between the two players, but it didn't happen.

Monkey, I did not know you meant in the off season. I thought you meant during the regular season so I'll take it back.

As for the all-star game, there were parts I like and parts I didn't, but overall, it wasn't bad. The young stars game could've been so one sided if Osbad wasn't so bad. Legace looked great and I love his assist on that one goal. Edler wasn't noticeable btw.

The skills competition, the shootout had a dramatic effect cause it was Phaneuf against 3 east guys and he won. The speed skating was just awlful. I liked it better when they skated around the rink and when time keepers don't mess up. Kovalchuk beat Horcoff so I have no idea why they had Horcoff in the finals. Chara might have the hardest shot, but if he skated from the red line in, he might have the hardest shot ever. The slam dunk contest was fun and I agree that they should ban goalies from poke checks and leaving the crease for that event. St. Louis couldn't do squat cause Nabakov didn't let him. I thought Getzlaf actually had more creativity than Ovechkin. His first move of puck from stick to back of skate to stick was amazing. But what's even more amazing is that he's balding and he's only in his 20's.

I like the all-star game as it was back and forth and again the west would've won easily had it not been for Osbad. Henrik actually played pretty well, but I don't get why Babbcock put both Henrik and Thornton on the same line since those 2 are the highest assist getters for the west.

wow AVcrystal another oil fan.. oilers are clicking now but we lost horcoff. What happened the nuks they were good and then last week they just started dropping the ball what happened? they really need secondary scoring. hey has anyone heard of brunnstrom (sp) apparently a hot commodity with a couple teams, they all want to sign him. and i heard toronto is close to inking him as an undrated free agent, so i don't know what's going on, can anyone give me the 411 on him?

Trade deadline in about 19 days, wonder what's gonna happen this is gonna be great!!! oh and happy new years to everyone here. time to get some money, HAHAHAHA.

oh pemberly, congratz on first game, its not that bad, its quite easy to follow, i guess its probably easy for ppl like us since hockey is almost life now, haha.

AVcrystal-the datsyuk goal was sick! altho vokoun over-committed, and datsyuk used dat move on turco b4, but it was still amazing to see him pull it off. btw, welcome to the hockey thread, nice to have another hockey fan, even tho u r an oiler fan

BQ-yea getzlaf did try some moves, but it wasnt as fancy as the ovechkin ones. haha yea i notice dat getzlaf is balding already, wat is he? 22? ouch. i wonder if kiss7 will still find him hot. i also like the skate-around-the-rink competition better. the sprint is too short IMO.

pemberly, where did u watch the game? how did u get free tix? did u enjoy it? hope u become a hockey fan too.

trizz-brunnstrom is a swedish late bloomer, kinda like alfredsson, who is rippin it up in the SEL. lots of teams r interested in him but hes rumored to sign w/ the wings. he cant play this season, but he'll be in the lineup next year. the nucks been strugglin cuz they lost many dmen to injuries. bieksa, mitchell, krajicek r out long term. ohlund had to miss game for family reason, salo just came back from injuries himself. against the stars, we had to dress bourdon, weaver, fitzpatrik and mciver along w/ edler and salo, its pretty much an AHL blueline (aside from salo, only 60 games NHL experience between the 5). i guess as an oiler fan, u'll understand our struggle w/ injuries. wats going on w/ souray?

Nice to see another Oiler fan on the board.. Horcoff has had a phenomenal season. He was on pace for a career year. I think he just needed one goal to surpass he career high. It's too bad that he got injured. I just love this guy's work ethic. Works hard every shift and a great team leader. Hopefully he will come back next year 100% healthy to have a better season. (By the way, Garon rocks! Great pick up by Lowe).

Regarding the Canucks, I think they lost all their top 6 d-man, and Luongo isn't playing as great as last season. You are right about the Canuck's lack of secondary scoring. Maybe during trade deadline, they can bring in Sundin to play with the Sedins. Possibly a deadly #1 line combo there.

I think the trade deadline is going to be a frenzy day. I am really hoping Pitkanen won't go anywhere. Hopefully Lowe will be able to sign him to a contract...such a smooth skating puck-moving d-man with lots of potential. He will do good for the Oilers in years to come.

superkaratemonkey - you are one of the more "nicer" Canucks fans out there. Most of the ones I've seen in other forums are just plain nasty. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I'm also a huge Datysuk fan. This guy can split two defencemen and score beauties at the same time. Awesome player.

So here's the similar move Datysuk made on Turco. The only difference is that the goal against Turco is during regulation, while the one against Vokoun was during the shootout.

hehe thx, and ur one of the nicer oiler fan out there yourself.
did u watch the game on sat between the oilers and nucks? it was an absolute WAR out there! one of the most intense and entertaining game i've seen recently. both teams play super physical and borderline dirty, lots of fights, some nice goals. i wish most games r like dat. good dat we came out on top and sneak back into the playoff for the moment. cant believe gagner fought kesler and won, sams gonna be a great player. had horcoff been healthy u guys mite've won it. is the oilers gonna b buyers or sellers this deadline?

wow i feel dissed, haha i'm not a nice one out there? haha i never said anything ridiculous about the nuks! ahha.

I watched the game, it was pretty intense, but we lost so it wasn't that great in the end. The game is what canadian hockey is all about, that's also why i need to get shin pads when i play hockey with my friends, haha only shinny i'm not that good.

I don't know if the oilers are gonna sell or buy... we'll have to see after this road trip. I dont think we'll make the playoffs. I think the only thing we're missing right now is defensive dmen but then we also need to develop our player. I think lowe is just gonna sit with the guys he have right now... and focus on signing the RFA's what are the nuks gonna do?

    Thanks.

Yeah, the game on Saturday was awesome. The crazy fighting and physicality was extremely entertaining. Can't really wait for the next match-up between these two teams.

I was pretty surprised Gagner actually fought. Congrats to him on his first NHL fight..haha. That was totally unexpected. Those Sedins are Oiler killers. Everytime they play the Oilers, they will put up points on the scoresheet...

Anyway, I don't expect the Oilers to make the playoffs, but if they play well down the stretch in the next few games, the Oilers may be buyers - chances are very slim though.

Funny that the Oilers lacked a puck-moving defenceman last season, and this season, they got an abundance of them, and are now looking for a defensive d-man.

As long as the Canucks make the playoffs over the Flames, I won't mind....

haha trizz u know im just kidding, ur the best oiler poster i know! u play hockey w/o shinpads? boy dats not smart, i've got slash on the shin b4 and it hurts like a $!#%&.
yea the twins r usually pretty good against the oilers. its probably y we have good record against u guys. if they dont score, the nucks dont win. i hope the oilers and nucks both make the playoff and the flames and wilds r out, and edm play van in the western final (w/ nucks winning), dat'll be great. but the oils r alittle too far back, they need to climb over a few teams, dats never easy. too bad van and edm will never make a trade, cuz we have too many dmen and u guys need some.
cant wait till the trade deadline

As long as the flames blow the first round its all good!!! OTTAWA ALL THE WAY!!!! but seriously i say keep joe corvo... he was good, oh wells.

oilers are not gonna make the playoffs this year, and i dont think they'll gonna buy too. we do have defensive defensemen just that we need to develop them a bit more, guys like smid gilbert and greene. staios needs to step up a bit. I have a feeling roloson maybe going to a team that wants experience between the pipes. in return for like someone who's a top six forward not too expensive, young and locked up for a year or two... I dont know if thats pushing it, but you never know.

Gagner has been pretty awesome since horcoff got injured... its also too bad how our impact players are all injured, except for torres we need to get rid of him... maybe for some draft picks i dont know, but from the looks of it, anahiem got those sweet high picks and could even win the cup too... yup can't wait for trade deadline.

heard nuks in hossa sweepstakes as well. this is gonna be sweet! haha but i think the habs have hossa in the bag, they're already ordering hossa equipment...

I also heard the other day that Brad Richards might potentially be traded to Edmonton. Thinking of it this way, if the oilers give up Roloson, Torres, and maybe someone else, the trade might be possible.

Too bad Richards is way overpaid. That Tampa GM (Feaster) screwed his team up investing a major portion of his money on 3 players (not that Lecavalier and St. Louis are overpaid - they are earning their salary).

Tampa desperately needs more secondary scoring and a proven goaltender.

haha funny story i heard about it today on radio. apparently when the rangers play the canadiens at montreal a couple days ago, somebody sent MARCEL hossa's new gloves to the canadiens locker room. the reporters heard about it, and changed marcel to MARIAN, and wrote a story about the habs traded for marian hossa. it was just marcel's new gloves arriving at montreal, and somebody accidentally delivered it to the habs locker room. big commotion over nothing haha.

corvos ok, but to get stillman and commodore, its an easy trade for ottawa to make. its 2 things they need, and corvo is only good on the PP. ottawa wins the trade easy.

y ru guys tryin to unload torres? hes one of the most irritating player in the nhl and i would love for him to play on the nucks. hes like a more skilled, tougher, fighting version of cooke.

as for roloson, he mite net u a pick but a top 6 young forward is not likely. and i dont think richards will be a good fit on the oilers AV. w/ horcoff and gagner on the team already, u dont need a $7M player taking up playing time. plus edm is pretty close to the cap arent they? can they even take on so much salary?

a trade i heard recently involving richards is him going to dallas for smith (goalie) and boucher and a pick. make sense for tb becuz they need a good goalie and D, and stars get richards on a line w/ modano (move to LW) and lethinen, and suddenly they have 2 deadly lines.

Yeah, that would definitely make more sense (Dallas/Tampa trade). Edmonton is very close to the cap this season. Souray needs to earn his salary next season....

Torres is one of the streakiest players that you'll ever get. When he's on, he'll keep on scoring, and if he goes cold, he seems to be invisible whenever he is on the ice, floating around most of the time. Don't know why, but he always plays well against the Canucks for some reason. His name is being thrown around for trades, but since he's out for the season, he probably won't get traded.

P.S. Oiler fans really hate Matt Cooke LOL.

I dont like matt cooke too! HAHA

i think its inevitable, roloson is gonna go, dont know where but i have a hunch it could be tampa, but who knows. I dont think the oilers are gonna be very active over the next two days, they'll probably unload on roloson.

Torres as AVcrystal said is ridiculously streaking, i dont know if MacT cracked on him yet but i know quite a few ppl who have already cracked on him and dont really want him taking up cap space.

    We'll see what happens tmr.

So Mats Sundin refused to waive his no-trade clause to stay in Toronto.

All the speculation and rumours of him being traded on trade deadline shall be laid to rest.
    http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=230511&hubname=

Two different perspectives on the issue. Some would call Sundin selfish because the team won't be able to get some assets in return if Sundin were to get traded. Others would say he is showing his loyalty to the Leafs and wants to remain a Leaf until he retires...
