Default Gu Long's Cang Qiong Shen Jian

This is the first novel that Gu Long wrote. Never heard anyone mentioned it nor there was any interests for anyone I know to read it, has anyone read this novel ?

Can someone summarize or inform us on what the story is all about ? Is this a good novel, considering it was his first, the time when he still used detail descriptions of fights and characters, how bad is this compared to Jin Yong's Book & Sword ?

It wasn't very good. I think he cranked out about 3 or 5 novels his first year, kinda in a mass production mode. They were pretty much the same... boy's parents get killed, grows up training for revenge, falls in love w. enemy's daughter. Fight descriptions were detailed, but rather boring. It wasn't until a few novels later, that his quality became better. IMO, his earliest novel I really enjoyed was Poisonous Sword, Fragrant Plum Blossom, although I don't think he wrote the entire thing.

A good rule of thumb for Gu Long is this: If you haven't heard of it, it's not worth reading.

If you're really running out of stuff to read, try either Liang Yu Sheng or Huang Yi.
