Default Anyone watch Shaw Brothers movies?

I'm just wondering if anybody here watches any fims from this once great studio. So far I have seen two movies(Clans of Intrigue and The Proud Twins) and it seems that Shaw makes really good movies.

I have a few of the Shaw Brothers films. I've seen "Return to 36 Chambers" and thought that was really good. I also liked "New Tales of Flying Fox," wrote a review about it for the site, but it hasn't been made live yet.
There is also "Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre" parts 1 and 2, I thought it was ok, they were quite liberal with changes to the story though, and Jing Li's Chiu Ming wasn't exactly beautiful.
The one that got me most freaked out was actually "Human Lanterns," and this was pre-"Silence of the Lambs."

i remember "The Mad Monk" starring Stephen Chow. that was hilarious.
i haven't really spent the time on their older stuff but i have seen the films Shaw Bros. have produced in the 80's and 90's.

I've watched a handful of them in recent months due to the lack of really good wuxia serials, and I'm very happy with them. The choreography isn't as corny as I expected it to be. I've also started to like actors who I've never seen before such as Derek Yee and Ching Li.

The Romantic Swordsman was extremely nice - esp since it was in Cantonese. Ti Lung was so smooth. The story was fairly loyal to the novel, but they had to change the plot a bit to make it fit into a movie, and I personally enjoyed the plot twists which gave arguably more closure to the Plum Bandit story. I also enjoyed that Lin Xianer (played by the pretty Ching Li) wasn't the bad girl she was in the novel. Derek Yee's Ah Fei was also very nice.

Third Master's Sword (dunno the real English name) was also enjoyable, with Derek Yee as Xie Xiaofeng. The ending duel and the twist at the end when Yan 13 loses was totally unexpected!

The Duel - starring Lau Wing as Lu Xiaofeng and Yue Wah as Ximen Chuixue was also entertaining, and it surprised me what a good LXF Lau Wing was - it just didn't sound right having him as the jovial and carefree LXF but it was done very well.

The Heaven Sword Dragon Sabre movies dragged on for a bit, but the first movie especially was great. Of course, I'd lap up anything with Derek Yee and Ching Li now, but even the supporting cast was impressive. It's fun watching Ng Man Tat as Hu Qingniu, being so noble in those days...

Other Tales of the Flying Fox was nice, particularly as Alex Man and Felix Wong were both extremely talented actors and well-recognised faces. I found Hui Yinghong as Yuan Ziyi probably didn't quite fit, but by and large it was a good watch even if the ending was depressing. Anyone know the girl who played Ching Lingshu and her martial sister? They were both beautiful, but I don't remember them acting in any other Shaw Brother movies.

Others like Xiao Shiyi Lang and Tianya, Mingyue, Dao were also great fun, if only to see Ti Lung and Ching Li in action (and you get to see a VERY vicious side to the sweet Candy Man Suet Yee in Xiao Shiyi Lang). Lian Chengjue was a bit too short, and had a bit of a depressing ending since they cut out the entire second half with Shui Sheng, Luo Hua Liu Shui and Xuedao Laozu, and jumped straight to the words under the coffin after Ding Dian dies.

One thing which impressed me a lot about the Shaw brothers movies is the fight choreography. The formations used and the imagination in designing the fights is quite something. I find the very enjoyable, and only wish they stuck to either CD jewel boxes or DVD covers instead of some of either for packaging, which really annoys me as I try to find a place to store all of them together.

The English title for Third Master's Sword is Death Duel. Has anyone ever seen The Proud Youth? From what I know, it is an adaptation of Xiao Ao Jiang Hu(State of Divinity). I'm thinking about picking it up next time I go to Chinatown but I just want to hear an opinion on it.
