Well, there is still a fairly large (geographically) independent nation called "Mongolia" to the northwest of mainland China.

There's even a Mongol playing professional basketball in the United States: Mongke (no relation to that Mongol Khan you killed) Bateer.

I find it interesting that Mongolia with its dominating past is so quiet and out of sight in respect to international politics. Mongol Khan must be turning in his grave.

Aside from that brilliant two or three centuries during the Middle Ages, Mongolia mostly has been on the fringes of world affairs. The geographic isolation of Mongolia has much to do with this.

I wonder if they are still living in the middle Ages with their tent-houses. Perhaps I should ask my co-workers tomorrow.

Not in the cities/towns obviously such as Ulan baator?
But in the rural yes. Discovery Channel

Wonder if they still drink horse milk alcohol.

How did Mongolia became so powerful in the middle ages?

Was a large proportion of their popn part of the famed Mongol army? Or did most of their army came from other minorities, such as the Khitans?

They were oh so close to crushing the other two superpowers - europe and islamic empire.
