They're not doing that to every series right? Cuz if they are I reckon they should stick with chinese or use both but NOT just english I don't want chinese subtitles to be totally replaced by english subtitles! Even though Im not good at reading chinese.. haha.... Hmm is the translating even good for the eng subtitles? Sometimes they give a totally diff meaning to what they r actually saying so thats why I dont like looking at eng subs~~

Watching tvb series is how I improve my chinese... hehe~ and also give me a good excuse to always watch

yeah i agree with you. honestly i also don't like the idea of replacing chinese subs with english subs. it just looks kinda weird. they are talking in chinese but the words are english though i think many can benefit more if they have english subs coz in my place, many don't know chinese. but still... i wish they put both and you can just choose to see chinese or english subs. just like the audio where you can choose between canto and mandarin

I think TVB's intention is to reach out to a wider market in that those who cannot understand Cantonese or Mandarin can have access to the shows through the English subtitles. Unfortunately, nowhere on the box covers does it say that you can have a choice of English or Chinese subtitles, just English only. And, strawberry, you are right. Their translation of the words can (quite a number of times) be way off the actual meaning. Well, I too like to have Chinese subtitles because some words that I cannot quite catch in Cantonese, at least I can refer to the bottom screen for assistance.

Check it out and see if you can recognise the voice. I'm sure it's not sung by Ray, probably another singer with the same name. Or maybe I'm wrong.

And, oh, the karaoke song is beautiful. He sure has got a nice voice. Only gripe I have is why do all these stations always fix such huge, ugly cutouts of their logos onto the microphones. It makes the singer look so comical when he's holding it close to his mouth!

Well, like what they say and what is translated are two different things. Also sometimes the sentence structure is so weird you are left wondering what it is all about. But minor hitches aside, it is at least much, much better than those old Shaw movies where the English subtitles either leave you in tears (from laughing so much) or fuming (for murdering the English language) - depending on your tolerance level.

I agree. I've listened to another song also attributed to 林峰 and the voice is not Raymond Lam's - for sure. So I guess it's another Mainland singer (don't know why but I just think he's from the Mainland).

LOL.... yees... those old movie subtitles~~ sometimes my eyes go -ing. They r horrible!
For TVB, it would b good for people who don't speak a word of canton, or for people who don't understand a word of english.... but its killing those who know one and even worse for us who know both!! And plus, "cantonese jokes" will be destroyed when its translated into eng and half the time won't be funny...
If they really are doing it... hope TVB gets GOOD translators that r not going to "murder the english lang" haha....

Well, you're not the only mad one. I also started from page 1 soon after I 'discovered' Ray and took a few days to finish. Only then did I join in the discussion. That's also how I managed to pick up a few goodies (songs, clips) along the way.

no, they were to promote tvb series in malaysia. but in lethal weapons ray and sonija are together in there, and in turbulent beauty ron and myolie are together. then in next year's series 'tai chi' ray and myolie are together
