Default How much did the wulin public know about Cheung 3 Fung's origins?

All of wulin during the time of HEAVEN SWORD & DRAGON SABRE knew that Cheung 3 Fung was the illustrious and sage-like founder of the Mo Dong Sect. How common was the knowledge that he, as a youth, had once been an acolyte of the Shaolin Temple? Even his seven disciples only knew it as a rumor (until he confirmed it for them) at the beginning of HSDS, but even the then-current generation of Shaolin monks knew of it as part of their history. Was it widely known (or at least rumored) that Cheung 3 Fung had a past with Shaolin? Was it also widely known that he had had contact with the ROCH-era Greats?

Hmm....one thing im not clear of is what Cheung 3 Fung told his students of being from shaolin. I remember in the series(think it was '86 tony leung) he sort talked of the issue and made it seem as though he wasnt actually a student of shaolin and therefore there was no shame.....he was not a 'boon tou'. Literally = half student? lol nah its 'betraying student'.
