Default GWM wanting Gwok Seung as disciple.

Does anyone else find it odd that GWM would want Gwok Seung as his disciple? Certainly she may possess the qualities to be a good student. But given that she is a female, wouldn't it be un appropriate for a monk to have a female disciple during that era? Even shaolin never accepts female students.

Can anyone name a instant where a male monk had a female student? I can't seem to think of one right now.

Yuan Zi Yi's teacher was a male monk. But I agree with you, it is not a much accepted idea. Maybe Tibetism/Mongolian monks have different regulations.

GWN acutally did not want to have guo xiang as his disciple. However, he was desperately looking for someone to pass down his skills to. Hence, after he saw guo xiang, he felt that she was good enough. He was willing to give up using guo xiang as hostage and pass down his skills to her because he felt if he does not pass down his skills it would be a waste. In fact, we was worried as he could not find a suitable person to pass down his skills

He was hardly one to follow rules and conventions in the first place. If he can bully pregnant women, abduct babies etc i don't think he is gonna care much about a female student.

I think it also reflects his greatness in a way that he can look past such things but i guess part of it was down to circumstance.

Would have to doublecheck the novel to be certain, but I think Yuan ZY's master was a nun.

Anyway, I think the Confucian China was just more conservative than its some of its neighbors.

JinLun GuiShi wanted Guo Xiang as a disciple to impart his skills to her, and his most formidable skill was the Long Xiang Ban Ruo Gong, which was comparable to Guo Jing's XL18 palms. I'm wondering if Guo Xiang would be able to learn this pure yang2gang1 skill? Sort of defeats the whole point of wanting to keep her as a disciple if she couldn't learn it.

Any examples in JY's other novels of female fighters using pure yang gang skills?

That's a good point. If his Long Xiang Ban Ruo Gong isn't suited for females like XL18 Palms then it makes one wonder why he even want Guo Xiang to be his disciple.
