I remembered reading on a newspaper or magazine, about the ratings given to the actresses and actors for the ROCH'98 series. Yvonne Lim as GX outshined Fann Wong, even though she was given the lead as XLN.

Hmm... if i rememebed correctly, Fann got 3 stars while Yvonne got 4 stars As for Chris, i think he got 3.5 stars.

But oh well... that was so many years ago.

Haha.. just a little something to share.

Yvonne may be cuter and better actress than Fann but she'll never get top billings because Fann is the studio bosses' darling. That's how the game is played. It's not your skill but how much your bosses love you.

Florence Tan almost stole the show in HSDS but she's a nobody back in SG.

The memories are coming back... well, bits here and there only.

Let's see what I can remember.
I know I love Zhou PuoTung in here.
He's just such a cute character.
I think the version in 2005/06 wasn't as great.

    Oh... the condor.
Haha. Cannot remember much of it.
Must be another horrible CG. =p

    Yes, Fann Wong and Chris.
    They were great I think.
    There's chemistry between them.

I read some post here saying Fann had too much expression as XLN.
    Really?
I'll have to rewatch to judge on that.
As far as I can remember, XLN only reacts to YG, facially.

    And, that hairstyle. LOL.
It will always be the main thing people remember.

I like the way Chris portray YG.
He does show the "16 year" gap well.

Uh, I love the soundtracks too.
As for the theme song, I prefer the slower one, rather than the ones they have in the CD, which is slightly faster tune.

    Oh.. oh.. *excited*
    This website still exist!! weeee...
You can see lot of pictures here.
This is where I used to go alot. *click on the picture*

This just reminds me of one of my top favourite scene.
Where she met up with YG in the Guo's Martial Art assembly where she was fighting against Jin Long Da Wang.
    That was cool!

One thing that bugs me though.
HOw did she always have that many white cloth to chuck out?
    Yeah.. it's only fictional...
I know. Just wondering. hehe. She wouldnt be carrying pieces of clothes around, would she then? rofl!
I like this picture. Fann looks nice in this picture. I'm hoping to watch most of the series of ROCH to get the idea of which one is better. Thanks for the link.
This is off topic but I found this $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Concourse/2135/banner4a.jpg') on the site and I can't remember what series the girl on the right was from. Can someone tell me?

ROC98 Sing. is quite good. However, there are some parts are quite romantic(the wedding parts at tempple and tomb). It seemed like Fann cries most of the time. But she looks really cute and sweet though.

well, in this version, there are a lot of scenes that Gao fu admits that she is wrong in the past, that means cutting yang gao arm and being so mean to people, she actually went to yang gao and asked him to cut her arm off.....(well) I guess she's my favourite gao fu.....Other version don't show that kind of things, they only showed that yang gu saved her husband and she apologized to him....................

Hello. I've been lurking on this site for several years and finally decided to join when I saw this thread.

I saw this program a number of years ago on the International Channel (which I guess isn't the International Channel anymore). It was dubbed in Vietnamese, which I don't speak (I don't speak Chinese either), but I found it fascinating anyway. I really enjoyed the elaborate costumes and interesting characters, even when I couldn't understand any of the dialogue.

I videotaped about half of the episodes and spent a lot of time on the web researching the series, which is how I found this site. Before I saw ROCH I had never heard of Jin Yong. Now I've read several of his novels.

I've been hoping to get VCDs of the series but it seems it's out of print. I can't locate it on yesasia.com. Does anyone know if it is available? With English subtitles would be preferable, but if that's not possible I know the story now and can figure out what is going on even without being able to understand what the characters say.

    Thanks for your help.

There's one whole list of torrents here. As for this particular series you're looking for, it's the 1998 production.

But first check whether it's legal for you to download fansubs in your country.

I think 2006 version is better, because the Singapore production deviates too much from the original novel written by Louis Chia.

Thanks, FruityPunch. I don't think I'll mind too much if it deviates a bit from the novel - I'm just now reading IcyFox's translation. Previously I only knew the story from reading reviews of other tv versions, and from the English translation of a graphic novel. I'm sure I'm losing a lot of the story in all those different translations.

Singapore did. They made Golden Wheel Monk master BOTH the Jade Maiden Sutra and the 9Yin instead of the Elephant-whatever skill.

Golden Wheel Monk: Hahaha! I've mastered the Yunuxinjing and Jiuyinzhenjing! You are no longer my match!

    Guo Jing: WTF?!
