And FYI, YM's actually becoming more and more popular in the mainland as well as in HK, after starring as GX in ROCH'06. Her debut movie "The Door", directed by renowned director Li Shaohong was released recently and actually did pretty well at the mainland's boxoffice, even beating mega-productions like HK's "Confessions of Pain".
It doesn't matter that your taste is different to thousands of others who'd rather see Miss Barbie the ugly. In the end its the numbers and majority that counts.
Yang Mi is only gaining a tiny bit of publicity through her mini roles.
Her role in the horrible movie "The door" was like 10-15min of smiling, questioning and nothing else. The main part she got was getting banged by the main guys friend.
Even the most serious fans would agree the movie was horrid. I've seen Yang mi appear in one advert which was for some wool company on TV while others like Lin Zhi Ling or Barbie Hsu get countless publicity through pantene etc.
Lin Zhi ling and Fan Bing Bing seem to be the hottest property throughout CHina at the moment.

Shes certainly not beautiful enough to play as one of the 4 great beauties of Ancient China, she doesn't have the charisma or presence on screen other than a bratty spoiled girl.
And shes less popular than the likes of super girl winners like Zhou Bi Cang in China or other Taiwanese actresses like Barbie.
Actually shes unpopular outside of this SPCNET fanclub.

Quite right. In that case, it doesnt matter whether she was horrid in "The Door", since the boxoffice response is all that matters. And pls provide any backing to ur claim that thousands would wanna see Barbie as any of the 4 great beauties. I've always heard of the favourites like Shui Ling, FBB, Rebecca Wang, GYY etc but never Barbie. The last i heard was that people thought she wansnt suitable for ancient roles since she doesnt have the looks for it.

The people you've listed are indeed much more famous than YM now and i've never stated otherwise. But that doesnt say anything about them being prettier or better actresses. Anyway, besides the woolie Ad u saw YM appear in, it seems that she has been endorsing many products as of late last year, especially clothes and sportswear.

Not only mainland actors, almost every asian actor. They can never be paid as much as hollywood actors for starring in a film or drama.

I mean.. I'm sure all actors and actresses are 'overpaid' in some sense. even in China. China is just on a different scale from the US since the economy is different. I read something about the richest man in China and he was way below the richest man in America.

ahahah... right. but I mean, people can be WAY poorer next to him, but still be extremely extremely well off in China because the economy in China is different. I mean a lot of things are cheaper. I'm middle class here but when I go to China people think I'm rich or something.

Unfair? I think Hollywood actors in general (not to say there haven't been absolutely horrible performances) are more decent than Asian actors in terms of acting. As wacky as Tom Cruise's personality is, I liked almost all of his movies and I think he's a good actor. The stars that make a lot are the talented ones IMO - Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger, etc.

Anyway, I'm sure Hollywood projects make more money - it's natural that it is going to divided up into larger chunks for the actors' salaries. On the other hand, I doubt actors/actresses don't make enough from their projects though. In China you only need ~30000 RMB a year to live a decent life. These actors/actresses are sometimes making 100000 RMB for ONE episode. Whereas in America 30000 USD a year is barely making the middle-class line, and if you have a family, that could easily be considered "poor."

Here's a recent article about YM to add on to my point. Sina has labelled her "Queen of Newcomers" and she has a current string of endorsements which include clothes, sportswear, equipment etc. She just returned home to Beijing from Guangzhou, where she was shooting a commercial ad for skiing products.

Wow... I don't know why people keep saying she's anorexic because she doesn't look anorexic at all, especially in those pictures... look at those thighs!

She does look pretty healthy in those pics. Hopefully those are recent pics and she'll stay that way
