I really think this serial looks promising. I have not seen a decent Taiwanese serial that could keep my interest for a long time. Maybe, I will try this...the begining parts look good..does this serial drag later?
The drama was pretty nice in the earlier eps. but after midway it dragged abit. I would not have finish watching the show if Ariel isn't in it!?Ermm, still I think ISWAK still better than Tokyo Juliet.
haha, I totally agree. XQ's stupidity kinda bugged me sometimes and her lack of pride.. but hey, it was cute and funny too. loved this series and was totally addicted to it!Originally Posted by fluffinduffin
yea, I think for ZS, it took long to express himself because I think he was battling it out within. Like, I think he didn't want to like XQ and tried to deny it because his mom wanted them to be together and he didn't want to go by his parents' plans. But he felt that it was something he couldn't control (like how Hui Lan said when he's around XQ, he becomes impulsive and full of live blood, it's a different part of him that comes out that she is able to stir within him.) I actually think he started liking her after seeing her succeed in getting the top 100 and then seeing how she worked so hard at a part time job to get the money to buy his thank you gift. That's when he put his arm around her for the picture... and then after that impulsively kissed her at the graduation dinner party. So yea, I think the whole time after that he liked her but he had to figure it all out and battle it out within, and figure out what he also wanted in life (his future, etc). And I think another reason why it took so long is because the writers need to prolong it so that there is more of a story. hehe
can someone post the pix of the japanese actors for the XQ and ZS roles?
I don't think it drags.. there's always lotsa little things and subplots going on that it doesn't really seem like it drags, and 20 episodes is pretty good, I think that number is just right, not too long not too short.Originally Posted by strawberry

i also think so!!he's just sooo shy to let her know but deep inside, its bursting! dat's why he's kissing XS w/o cause... and i think all of their kisses was initiated by him!!! how sweet... i also like XS as a hopeless romantic!!! love them both!

(correct me if im wrong)
it started when jeanie saw michael on the start of classes. she became in love with him coz he's just sooo smart with 200 IQ. then, jeanie tell michael wat she feels but michael refuse her... suddenly, J's house was destroyed because of a minor earthquake then J's freind in highskul extended help and let them stay in their house... fortunately for jeanie, M's father was J's fathers frend... then they live 1 roof...
thats the synopsis only.. if you really want to know, you can search on youtube for the eps. or in wikipedia.... for the japanese manga, you can go to asian fanatics forum and search for the it started with a kiss thread. its on the first page....

So did you like ISWAK? I'm watching DBY and I'm just not as interested in it. I like ISWAK so much better. What do you think? Have you watched DBY? People kind of compare the two because of the love letter and the japanese manga thing.
I'm watching this series now, for the first time... It is repeating in malaysia again..
It is soooo good.. but some parts are draggy at the moment and XQ is a bit pathatic.. haha.. and Zhi shu is so cute, cool and mean!!
but defintely one of the best taiwanese productions so far!! funny as well as romantic!!
I'm not sure if i've watched a Taiwanese series before and i'm not really a modern series fan but this series is pretty addictive and not to mention cute. I haven't watched a modern series in a long while now that i think about it. I just started watching this series recently and it's really hard not to get hooked. Xiang Qin is pretty funny and i guess somewhat pathetic (but sweet!) and usually i don't really like characters like those but i don't know, i like her a lot. She really grows on you. I also like how Joe can do the cold look pretty well. Their interactions are really funny. I still have yet to see Zhi Shu reciprocate his feelings for her. Even though i'm no where near done yet, i'm glad to hear that's actually a sequel to this. Something to look forward to.![]()
So will the sequel be based on the manga? Or will it be a totally made up storyline? When exactly will they start filming it?

Kashiwabara Takashi as Irie Naoki (aka Jiang Zhi Shu)
Sato Aiko as Aihara Kotoko (aka Yuan Xiang Qin)
And here are some pix from the Japanese version. So you can see what they actually looked like in the series.
I think i prefer Joe and Ariel based on looks. The actors for the Japanese version are cute too but maybe because it came out in 1996 that i don't really like their look as much in the series.

I'm glad you're getting hooked. I'm just like you, not a big fan of modern series until I saw this one and I was like, omg, love it! I even went out and bought the whole DVD set cuz I fell in love with it. Zhi Shu's reciprocations are very subtle in the beginning which is what I like about the show. I like how the falling for her isn't instant and you get to really understand what's stopping Zhi Shu or the battle within (parents' plans, etc). I totally ended up lovin' Ariel and Joe after the series (and I don't usually like guys with long hair!) I'm like, watching ISWAK for the second time now! haha
Thanks for posting the Japanese version pix.. I don't really like the girl's look in it.. she doesn't seem cute, which would make her annoyingness even worse I think. Ariel's character really grows on you and you start to root for her.
As for the sequel, I heard it follows the manga which is really good. I like it when the script stays true to the original. I hope the sequel is good though, because most of the time, sequels really ruin a movie/series. And I think the production for ISWAK is delayed because Ariel was filming LOCH with Hu Ge and Hu Ge got into a serious accident so LOCH is being delayed so I assumed ISWAK might be? I'm not sure.. but yea, hopefully we get to watch ISWAK 2 and Fang Yang De Xing Xing! Those are two I'm lookin' foward to.
Not 100% sure, but I think that ISWAK2 is supposed to start filming in February and LOCH will start filming AFTER (so around July).

Lin Yi Chen Abandoned Hu Ge Loved Zheng Yuan Chang
[ Ming Shen Bao / Reporter Wu Qi Zong / Reported]

Lin Yi Chen decided to abandon Hu Ge and changed to love Zheng Yuan Chang! Lee Guo Li’s production, chivalry drama, ‘The Legend of The Condor Heroes’ was stop filming in August due to Hu Ge having a car accident. Originally it will return to work during the middle ten days of November, but it was being postpone till next year March which happen to bump into the same date as Ba Da ‘ISWAK 2’, Lin Yi Chen’s agent, Xiao Yu said, Ba Da ‘ISWAK 2’ have already being confirmed and signed contract during last year, so decided to film ‘ISWAK 2’ first, then ‘The Legend of The Condor Heroes’ would have to wait till ‘ISWAK 2’ finish filming.
Although ‘ISWAK’ was having a very good feedback yet it was not draw well. This year it did not nominate in the Golden Bells Award at all, however, Ba Da was still putting ‘ISWAK 2’ as next year hottest idol drama, as usual, it was Lin Yi Chen, Zheng Yuan Chang and the old cast be the main performers. As for not being nominated, Lin Yi Chen was a bit disappointed, however, she said: ‘The biggest regret is the effort of the whole drama working team wasn’t being affirmed, which drama is not laborious?’ Director Xu You Ning did send a sms to Lin Yi Chen sometime ago, cannot help and said: ‘Was comic transcription the original sin?’
Established good relations with the working team, Lin Yi Chen naturally also put ‘ISWAK 2’ as her next year major work, Xiao Yu said: ‘‘The Legend of The Condor Heroes’ originally returning to work during November, but was postpone twice to next year March, it was impossible for Yi Chen to push against it at the same time, because one of the drama is at Mainland and the other one is filming in Taiwan, moreover, Yi Chen also take hold of a Taiwan movie. The movie will be overlapping ‘ISWAK 2’ for a few days, but the affect wasn’t very big.’
Lin Yi Chen recently often went for soul growth lesson; her mother was then gone for English Language lesson. Lin Yi Chen said, previously went to New York to study, her mother called New York to find her, all was answered by the landlord and her mother only know how to say ‘I am Ariel’s mother.’, so she decided to learn English, so as in future, she will be able to use it when she go oversea.

Hiya back, ellledubs! So does your DVD set have English subtitles? I think i've only seen ones online with only Chinese subtitles. Unfortunately, i need my English subtitles.Originally Posted by ellledubs

You know, i'm actually a fan of guys with longish hair. Well, that's only if they also have the face for it. I guess when you're good-looking, you can usually pull it off.The only thing is that even though I think Joe Cheng is cute and i like looking at his face, i'm not too big on his hair at the end. I haven't gotten too far into the series yet but i can see that his hair grows out by the end and gets kinda big/fro-ish. LOL. I like his hair at the beginning --- longish and straight as opposed to kinda big and wavy. No matter, i've already become a Joe Cheng fan.
And i agree with other people who have mentioned this. He really reminds of Edison Chen because of his smirks/crooked grins and his eyes.
Yeah, thanks for the info, lysil. I read that translated article too somewhere. I'm glad to know that ISWAK 2 will take priority over LOCH. ISWAK 2 hasn't been done before (or has it?) and so it's nice and refreshing versus another remake of LOCH.Originally Posted by lysil
Sure no problem. You know, when i came across those pictures, i also read that the manga-ka, Tada Kaoru, died unexpectedly and so the manga was left unfinished. So i wasn't sure if the manga actually continued past them getting married. I wonder where it was left off.Originally Posted by ellledubs
I heard that in the Japanese version of this series, Xiang Qin's character accidentally bumps into Zhi Shu and so their lips accidentally meet and they supposedly kiss. Hence, "it started with a kiss." But in the Taiwanese version, it really started with a love letter. I've never read the manga before but how does it actually start according to the manga? With a kiss or a love letter?
hey!Originally Posted by beanybeans
I read that the tw version follows the manga pretty strictly so i'm guessing that it started with a love letter (unless someone who has read the manga knows), plus the english translation of the title isn't very good anyways. Cuz really, the chinese title means practical joke kiss.
i actually don't mind joe's hair when it's curly and fro-ish, I think he pulls it off well. the initial straight hair is good too, but I think they made it change later to signify that he's gotten older.. just like with XQ, her bangs were to the side after they went to college.
my version has english subs, yes, but they're BAD english subs so I just turn them off. bad as in, sometimes they call zhi shu River straight by the tree (which is the direct translation of the three words of his name, which is hilarious and totally wrong!). Try these links.. they have english subs and GOOD ones!

the youtube one is not as good qual, but the chinkymovies one is good!
lemme know how it goes with all this!![]()
I actually later came across a site for some summaries of the manga today and according to that, the manga really does start off with a love letter that she's been meaning to give to him. Yeah, the English title is deceiving. I think the Japanese title translates to the "teasing kiss." So it's similar to the Chinese title then.Originally Posted by ellledubs
Oh i see. I have yet to see them look more mature then.
Thanks for the recommendations. I tried the chinkymovies site before when you had mentioned it in the Jimmy forum but i went ahead and stuck with downloading the torrent from d-addicts instead since the ones there are all high quality. It takes a little long to download but since i like the series quite a bit, i'll make the sacrifice. Each file is like 700MB as opposed to 200-something MB. So i guess i won't even try to find dvds for this series then since it sounds like the English subtitles are pretty bad. I like the series to want to buy it but maybe i'll just stick with what i have on my computer. The English subtitles are good for the version that i'm downloading. The group did a pretty good job. There might be some minor errors here and there but nothing like literal translations of names. Now that's pretty bad.Hmm, maybe one day i'll research into how to convert avi files to something that's playable on my stand-alone dvd player.
