The 1979 version of Salem's Lot was hokey, but it had a rather good scene. Exorcist III also had some effectively creepy scenes. This one was creepy as well. The only recent films and scenes that have creeped me out were the TV scene at the end of Ringu and the elevator scene in The Eye.

"Shutter" was ok. It didn't make my list of Scariest though.

    dont have the scariest.

only Ju-on is worthy enough to be classified as horror movie in my eyes. and even ju-on couldnt get me to shut my eyes or shriek of fear (ahem, like most my friends do). though i have to admit it is the only movie that got my heart felt like its popping out of my chest in anticipating whats gonna happen next. good one! The Grudge was a good one too (i never considered hollywood adaptation of asian horror movie, the ring was crap) i was at my uncle's house and The Grudge was on Astro so i was stuck watching it with them. gotta admit it was quite well done.

most asian horror movie gets repetitive while hollywood...sheesh i stopped watching hollywood's so called horror movies after I Know What You Did last Summer (damn i felt cheated).....yep it's like a trillion years ago.....then i thought id give it another try with the Exorcism of Emily Rose and i still think it's a waste of my time....so yeah.....though i love horror movies im very picky about my choices....

i thought older hollywood movies packed good horror stuff.....elm street, it, children of the corn, evil dead, omen etc etc but then i watched it again a few years ago and it didnt seem so scary anymore guess watching it as a kid and an adult makes a huge difference. i remember watching the movie with that devil kid, shit i cant remember the title, it's the kid that came with the corn field and he kills almost all adults in the village.....it's children of the corn right? right, whatever, and even that didnt give me much impression in the end......whatever movie that could get my heart beating fast, then it's a good horror movie, and gotta tell ya not many could give me that impact. i remember laughing at my sister and cousins whenever they cover their eyes when watching horror movies, i mean whats the point of watching if they wont look right? and up until now i still cant figure out why people do that......

Ah, i remember Stephen King's Rose Red. interesting movie (can i call it mini series?), i stayed up all night finishing it when Astro aired it years ago (Astro aired it from 0000 to 0600h for two days i think, it's been so many years ago i forgot how many in total Rose Red had)......good movie but i wont call it scary enough just yet. damn, i dont even remember the ending

this thread would sure do me good. seeking good horror movie recommendation here good call, pem!

    and ogakira:

lol, thats pretty good stuff.....though the scream was not chilling enough i thought youre just killing us with frustration when i couldnt get to even start the level in the first 5 tries

No American horror movie has ever scared me, except for The Grudge. I stopped watching it after about 15 minutes, but it was in the total dark by myself. That kid's makeup just scares me for some reason.

Scariest movie gotta be the original Exorcist. I couldn't sleep for a week cuz the vision of her head spinning was embeded in my brain. I still get scare watching it till this day.

Another scary one is the Jack Nicholson version of "The Shining" Jack was just so darn creepy in that movie.

I'm with you there. I've seen a lot of horror movies but the only one that has stuck in my brain is 'IT'. And yes, I have a fear of clowns too. Can't go to a circus cause I'm scared of them. I used to watch the 'Bozo Show' or something like that. But after seeing 'IT' I stopped. I get chills and goosebumps.

American horror films are nothing compared to Asian stuff. I've never been scared watching an American horror.
I think Japanese does the best horror film, followed by Thai, then Korean, and lastly Chinese.

i think asian horror movies are creepier than american, but there have been so many of them lately that i've gotten kind of sick of them.

chinese scary movies tend to be...crap. i think one of the reasons why they don't scare me is because i always recognize the actors and remember them as characters in other movies. like in the chinese part of the first THREE movie, one of the characters was eric tsang. i kept thinking about him as that gay dude in he's a woman, she's a man or as the vampire dad in this vampire family movie. and i kept thinking of leon as the legendary ranger or whatever.

the first exorcist was kinda cool. gory, but not really that creepy.

i saw the hills have eyes 2 today. eh....the lame dialogue was disturbing me more than the killing. and there wasn't as much kicking butt in this one. i was waiting for someone to kill a person with an american flag again!

Same. but probably because of the age I was when I watched it. That IT clown and the chucky doll from Child's Play gave me nightmares.

During my college years, I had to take college bus to college (cheaper mah!) and I try my best to avoid a certain driver - his hobby is clown, evidently by the 6-7 clown dolls hanging at the dashboard

    Other good scarefest:

    Nang Nak (Thailand)
    The Eye (HK)

I don't like Hollywood 'horror movies', most of the contains gore and slash flicks anyway. I'm more grossed than scared. But I did watch all Stephen King's adaptation.

I actually bought IT part 1&2 during a sale. Guess what? It remained in a corner gathering dust because I have no guts re-watching it. But I guess it can be put to a good use when my relatives' irritating kids came for a visit. Video time, anyone?

agreed. i despised the late 90s american horror movies cuz they just have to slip in unnecessary sex scenes.....i was like.....what the hell, what does this scene has anything to do with the bloody storyline?

same here. japanese horror movies kick ***, at least when they first started to fill the industry. i started liking japanese after Ringu......man they really know how to twist the scenes

but then the flood of asian horror movies kinda makes things sour and i gradually get tired of them......it was good during the ju-on, ringu, missed calls era but then i just lost my appetite for the rest after awhile

people say im quite emotionless when it comes to horror movies, im not sure they enjoy asking me to see one though i can say i enjoy watching horror movies with those who easily scream. helps highten the suspense of the movie

Let me see.....hmmm, too many to recall. From my recent memory, that's gotta be "The Descent", from the same director who directed "The Dog Soldiers". I thought "28 weeks later" would be a scary one but, no. It's touching, sad and totally running your emotions like a roller-coaster ride. There's alot of hidden messages in that movie, not just another "plague" movie. That's IMO.

Hey Ogakira, that's a nice picture of a pretty face. That's gonna be my date on next year's Valentines lol.

Honestly, to me horror movies aren't a good as it was before. I'm a big fan of the classics like Rosemary Baby, Night of the Living Dead, Exorcist, Omen, etc, etc,. I tried watching thai, chinese, japanese horror but doesn't seem to find it to scary. If you guys have an asian horror movie that will scare me please do recommend it, although Ringu and the Grudge was exceptionally scary, but not to the point that I gotta cover my eyes.

Huge horror movie fan here, but I've never been scared by scary movies, well except when I was like 5(damn you Chucky). Even as an old man I still enjoy horror movies.

Here's a list of my scary movies off the top of my head, the word "scary" is loose.
    Begotten
    Cannibal Holocaust
    Guinea Pig 1 & 2
    Tale of Two Sisters
    Marebito
    The Shining
    Quartmass and the Pit
    Dawn of the Dead
    The Thing
    Night of the Living Dead
    Evil Dead
    Forced Entry
    Four Flies on Grey Velvlet
    Rosemary Baby
    After Hours - Velvet Underground

When a Stranger Calls. The original - not the remake.

This one's probably not in most peoples top ten, but it sure scared the crap out of me. I particularly like the music - also very scary.

Yeah, I'm of the same view. The Asian horror flicks are creepy, but I have no problem having sweet dreams right after watching them. After watching The Exorcist, I tucked deep into my blanket and was scared to go to the bathroom.
