All YG thought/speculation not what HYS say..
I've never rated Mt. Hua as an elite wulin sect. They were around a long time, and were generally well-respected, but I never thought they ever cracked into the Top 3 Sects in wulin at any given time (which most other sects such as Shaolin, Mo Dong, Ngor Mei, Beggar's Union, Cheun Jen Sect, etc., did).
If we count to HSDS Huashan is the weakest among 6 big sects..
Shaolin
Wudang
Emei
Kunlun
Kongdong
Huashan
Nach I wonder did Huashan at HSDS SPW and SSWRB are the "same sect" coz they look different in each era..
Crap in HSDS medioker in SPW and Elite in SSWRB
arghhh SSWRB....
the only Jin Yong novel without english translation
The strength of all the sects besides Shaolin has always been a bit suspect to me. Besides Shaolin who always seem to have quite a few experts and thousands of disciples, the next sects seem to only have dozens of members. Wudang should be second and they seem to barely crack a hundred or two people.
As much as Ngor Mei seems to have a name in HSDS, they would lose to even recently established sects like White Eagle's.
Well can Qiao Feng (given his godly talent) "reach" a great status if he only learn Huashan skill since Mu Renqing (Yuan Chengzhi teacher) at SSWRB seems very formidable in his era with Huashan arts..

Don't forget he learn Shaolin arts for 10 years under Xuanku tutelage even "basic" Shaolin art is stronger than Huashan Kongdong or Qingcheng Sect arts IMHO also he fought Xuannan/Xuanju when he already at "great-level" just like YG vs ZBT at ROCH which even with QZ skills YG can fought ZBT "evenly" in "defense mode"..
As for Mu Renqing below QZ 7 Masters I think is not true he's at least in their level or perhaps a bit better
