Default Lung Jeung Bor Yeh Gung compared to Chinese MA systems of the time.

Although the Golden Wheel Monk never achieved the full potential of his signature martial art, the Lung Jeung Bor Yeh Gung (Dragon Elephant Skill), Jin Yong's description of it made it seem an awesome force to reckon with. The Golden Wheel Monk was a tenth-level practitioner of the art, and he was already able to give China's martial arts Greats (including Gwok Jing and Yeung Gor) a run for their money. With that point of reference, the theoretical thirteenth and ultimate level of this skill is almost inconceivable.

So how does Lung Jeung Bor Yeh Gung match up with the most powerful Chinese skills of its time...specifically the 9 Yum Jen Ging and the 9 Yeung Jen Ging?

I think I would personally take 9yin or 9yang. The elephant dragon wisdom skill takes too much time. IIRC correctly it said that the first level needed 1-2 years to master. The second 3-4, the third 7-8 ect ect. After the fifth level one would have to practice over 30 years to reach the next level. In that ten year span GWM who was an "out of this world genius" only managed to move one level up, thats not a shot at him, he proboally compressed some 100+ years worth of training during that period. But even GWM realized that he had run out of time and reaching another level was proboally impossible. Yet GJ and JY(Z3F's master) were younger then GWM and both probally had time to improve their skills and proboally surpass GWM. Also Gj was at least equal to GWM despite being 20(?) years younger then him. The 13th level would proboally be unstoppable, but no person can live to a thousand years so really no one will ever be able to master it so it dosent really exist to me . I dunno maybe im just being biased...

One question, how come JMZ never learned that skill? Isnt he from tibet as well?
wow..04-08....4 years just like that..time flies..

Fromt he description, GJ seemed to be on par with GWM when they first met. But at the end of ROCH, we have seen GWM in action, but not GJ. So it is possible for GWM to be higher in internal energy at this point, considering how busy GJ was defending Xiang Yang.

But yeah, that elephant thing does seem to take too long to learn. Wonder was there any other factors besides intelligence, that contributed to GWM being able to circumvent the timetable for the skilll? Circumvention as in for example ZWJ was able to massively circumvent the QKDNY timetable becasue he had massive internal energy.

Perhaps maybe monks have an easier time learngin the elephant skill and the skill was not invented by a monk?

One of the cool things about the 9 Yum Jen Ging is that after you've mastered it, you don't need to actively practice it to increase your inner power. It grows automatically; you literally get more powerful as you sleep.

As far as defending Seung Yeung Fortress is concerned, it didn't really consume Gwok Jing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for 16 years. He always had to be present and ready, of course, but skirmishes were probably few and far between. Most of the city's defense during those years consisted of watching, waiting, and planning...which left plenty of time to practice martial arts.

Hmm... probably 9Yang practitioners like ZWJ might take less time to master Dragon Elephant Skill and achieve the ideal 13th level? Since he managed to learn QKDNY in a much shorter time compared to the rest of the Ming Sect leaders.

It's frightening to think how powerful someone with Lung Jeung Bor Yeh Gung *on top of* 9 Yeung Jen Ging would be. The Janitor Monk would have some serious competition at last.

I would still put my money on Xu Zhu having more inner power, though.
