Default Devilish Women of the Ancient China

I recently rewatched The Snow Is Red and was again reminded of how much I hated all the good people in this show.

Mimi Kung's character was by far my favorite even though she was evil and did many evil deeds. A quick search of her filmography gave a list of other roles she had taken. Two immediately stood out, one she plays the leader of an evil sect in The Gods and Demons of Zu Mountain 1990. She was also my favorite in this show.

After thinking about it, I realised I like a lot of these actresses because they played women who are either of ill repute or was of ill intent. The women who even though they've done bad things still commands respects and admiration.

So I would like to share photos and roles of the women of evil that I admire and hope others would share too. I've learned to like all these actress from the evil roles they played.

First up will need to be Mimi Kung who started this for me.

    Mimi Kung

The Snow Is Red ATV 1996
Yip Xiao Fung - main antagonist and descendant of the evil sect who seeks to avenge her mothers death and restore her sect. Strong, smart and beautiful, she is a fair and capable leader.

The Gods and Demons of Zu Mountain TVB 1990
Sa Yim Hong - leader of the evil sect who proves to be a courageous and dignified woman who worked beyond the realms of good and evil. Was extremely filial to her dead teacher.

    Judge Pao Taiwan 1993
Story of the Blood Thirsty Flag
Chu Sai Lin (not too sure about this) - Main antagonist who killed countless people in the pursuit of revenge. Was shown to be filial to the point of blindness. Was willing to kill without question to protect those she loved.

    Yu Li 于莉
    The Legendary Siblings 1999 Taiwan
Yao Yue - main antagonist, leader of the evil sect who hated all men.

    Judge Pao 1995 ATV
I can't remember her name but I remember she was the antagonist of the story. She turned out to be a spy from the neighboring country.

    Is it this case?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqy-...R-QE&index=140

I really like the female lead in that case. Highly intelligent, strong, capable, independent but very caring. In the end, she was the culprit but still I liked her and wished she and Zhan Zhao had a way of making it work (impossibility, I know, wishful thinking).

Her name is Cai Yun in mandarin.

yes she was. I was like you. I wished they could have somehow worked it out and ended up together. We aren't the only ones who thought so, there are quiet a few MV's dedicated to them. I'm still trying to work out more from my list.

    Irene Wan

    Gods of Honor 2001 TVB
Empress Daat Gei - I remember staring slack jaw at the prettiness and cheered her on when she turned evil and killed all those good people who were against her without giving her a chance. I was still on her side till the end, gods be damned.

Against the Blade of Honor 1995 TVB
Can't remember her name but she was the wife of the antagonist and seduced Louis Koo, she had a sad life and was used by her husband.

Ada Choi (Character Name: ?, Revelation of the Last Hero)
I'll add Ada Choi in Revelation of the Last Hero to the list of women who turned villian.

I didn't like Ada very much when I first watched the series. I was completely rooting for Noel at the time. But a few years later, I learned that Revelation was Ada's debut tv series and thought she did really well for her first role. I felt bad for her when she turned villain and then felt bittersweet for her when she regretted her actions but it was too late.

She has really nice eyes. They're really sweet and pretty for the nice, sweet characters. But she can also pull off this look where she looks really evil and calculating.

Viann Zhang (Li Mochou, RoCH 2014)
The only RoCH adaption where Li Mochou's story moved me.

Emily Kwan (Mei Ruohua, The Mystery of the Condor Hero)
Is she considered a woman of ill intent during her pre-Mei ChaoFeng days? She was the only character I was interested in watching in this series. She wasn't evil just because she served Ouyang Feng but she didn't become 'good' either when she became Huang Yaoshi's disciple. As if evil/good sides didn't exist for her and she just did whatever she felt was the best per scenario. I also liked how, unlike the two characters I listed above, her actions in here wasn't completely due to spite over a guy (even during that big misunderstanding between herself and Julian, she didn't run around moping or being spiteful).

Edited: Fixed Noel's english name. Getting actresses' english names mixed up. T_T

Ada was also a very good Villian in Buddhist palm series. She looked really cool with the white hair at the end. I think it was very unexpected how she turn out at the end because she was from a well known family in the beginning, who would expect the weapons that she sold be poison.

As for Emily Kwan, I do like her in the mystery of the condor hero as well.

I also like Mimi kung in snow is red and gods and demons of zu mountain. She didn't really seem that evil in zu mountain thou, seems like she just wanted to avenge her master by defeating Eddie's master. I didn't know she was in 1993 version of justice pao. =)

I like Yu li too. I think she played a princess from another country that was already destroy. I think she has it all intelligence and martial arts. Seems like she did every single battle herself while on the other side, they had different people battle against her. Cannot remember anymore....

I also wanted to add Yammie Lam from final combat to the list.

Ah funnily enough you guys list my next three...

    Ada Choi
Buddhist Palm Strikes Back TVB 1992
Last boss - I remember watching this and thinking how although she wasn't a goody two shoe at the start but she turned evil due to the good guys constantly shoving her face in the we defeated your family so now you have to be nice because we're watching you. She's got a pretty sad life.

    Judge Pao 1995 TVB
Daughter of Gongsun Ce, who was torn between her loyalty to her foster father and her real fathers love. Ended up sacrificing so she could be filial to both.

Romance of the White Hair Maiden 1996 TVB
Obvious reason why. Useless male lead.

Her revelation of the last hero character was someone I liked too but not to the same extent.

    Emily Kwan

Mystery of the Condor Heroes 1996 TVB
Same reason as others had stated, I felt her reasoning was due more to self esteem more than anything, but she was a humanise character, someone with fears and wants.

Mystery of the Sabre 1994 TVB
Feng FeiXuet - Main antagonist that was not revealed till towards the end. Powerful, smart and ambitious, she was able to hoodwink everyone till the end. It's very rare to see a woman who had done so much for the sake of power and till the end, even though she loved she still wanted to be the top dog. She was not pushed by vengence, she became who she was from her own desire, even willing to kill love ones on the quest to power. She is by far the most 'evil' of them all. I was all for her to win though.

    The late Jacqueline Law
    Jade Fox 1991 TVB
Zhang Ping Ting - (I feel like I am repeating myself) Again another smart and capable woman, someone who also has great ambition and a country she wants to rule. However due to her gender she does not placed in the running for the throne. My favorite character in the whole show and she was beautiful to boot.

The Golden Snake Sword 1992 TVB
Yue Ban Wan - This character was used as a stepping stone to for the less popular actors at the time. But even though her character was badly written, I still felt sorry for her and still saw her as the more pitiful and had wished she could find her own happiness. It's the acting. Less about admiration but more of how much of an impact she left on me.

...3 today. Will be back tomorrow with more.

Yammie needs her own list. She's next. I have no intention keeping this list to just drama's.

I agree with your views on Mimi Kung in Zu Mountain. I thought she was more kind hearted and benevolent than the so call good sect. When they came to her for help, multiple times, she had never once turned them away, she was a healer so she even saved their lives at the detriment of her own, yet when she turned to them for help, they crapped on about how she's from the evil sect and it's against the rules but if she behaves herself and turn to the good side then we can let her stay. I seriously almost had fit and threw my remote at the TV. In the end those good guys barely did anything to kill the evil guy, it was her and the other 'evil sect' disciple that sacrifice themselves to wound him so the two big headed girls can come kill him with their magic swords.

    Yammie Lam

    The Final Combat 1989 TVB
Suet An - She was raised by an evil man and fell in love with another evil man. My liking of her may stem more from the liking of the whole drama in all.

Bonus...evil spider demon in Journey to the West

    Kristy Yang
This is a case more with the character than the actress as she is very raw in all these roles.

The Snow is Red 1996 ATV
Gong Suet - The only other likable character in the whole show. Unlike everyone else in the drama, she was the only one that knew her relationship with her mother and sister. The only character that actually put effort out to find out the rights and wrongs of the past. Her only downfall was the fact that she loved a useless man and could not see where her mother was coming from.

    Vampire Expert 2 1996 ATV
Butterfly Demon - I liked this character for mainly how much she treasured her sisters and when they both died and her lover was willing to die in her place she decided to take her own life.

The Monkey King Quest for the Sutra 2002 TVB
White Bone Demoness - I am inclined to like this character. She was strong and so devoted. Playing opposite TWINS helped in my liking.

She's a very formidable opponent in Inner Court: The Legend of Zhen Huan as well. It's awesome that her career has lasted so long in the entertainment business.

I liked that Kristy's character chose to back out of the love triangle in the end. It was so not worth it. Her relationships with her sister and her father were much more precious to rekindle.

ahh I also like kristy and her sisters in vampire expert 2. They were very pretty as the butterfly demon.

Speaking of the snow is read, Kristy's two martial arts sister were also very good and fits this category.

Going back to Ada, her character from revelation of the last hero was also memorable. I think jealousy drove her to turning evil. She really loved Aaron but he only like Noel.
I also like her in Romance of the white hair maiden, it left a strong impression for me as I always cried at the end and you are right, useless male lead, care too much what the other sects think.
Speaking of romance of the white hair maiden, Shui ling and Bonnie Ngai comes to mind as well. I thought they were both also very good in the role.

As for Golden snake sword, I like Jacqueline's character and I pity her so much in the series. But I think she was used in that series to help promote the series as they were promoting Angela Pang at the time.

Noel Leung from Fate of the last empire was also very vicious.

Angie Cheong in Journey to the west as the snake Demon, she was a bird in the beginning. Sorry, will try to put up pictures later.

    Sheren Tang
    War and Beauty 2004 TVB
Yu Fei is probably almost everyones favourite. For very obvious reasons. She cermented my love the moment she learned how to use her childs death to her advantage, but her main goal wasn't to just put herself back in favour but also to ensure her child would always be remembered by the King.

    Fiona Leung
She usually play women will ill repute as oppose to ill intent.

My liking of the below two characters are very smililar, they were both very smart and even though they were considered 'evil' by others, they always maintained a digified and gentle persona.
Mystery of the Condor Hero 1993 TVB

Rise of the Tai Chi Master 1997 TVB

Honarable Mentions (since I do no plan on including famous Wuxia novel charactes, since there is biasness towards the character)
    State of Devinity 1996 TVB

    Noel Leung
Agaisnt the Blade of Honor 1995 TVB
Ching Ching was a good character all the way till the end when we find out her secret.

Fate of the Last Empire 1993 TVB
The evil empress...From memory she was really pretty and conniving. Barely appeared but that was ok.

    The Hitman Chronicles 1996 TVB
Played one of the assissins, she played dual roles, the assassin and the lady. Liked both her charactes.

    Heroes from Shaolin 1993 TVB
Played a woman who did everything in her power to change herself to give herself a 2nd chance, she wasn't evil but wasn't good either.

I'm glad she's still active, don't know for how much longer but I am currently watching her on Up Idol.

Kristy's two martial arts sisters in The Snow is Red isn't really the type of characters I like, the 2nd sister was stupid and greedy, the eldest was stupid and loyal. I liked the eldest the most. I think on some levels, I preferred her to Kristy's character. Her unwavering loyalty was something to admire.

    Sharon Tang
New Heaven Sword Dragon Sabre 1986

    Gao Yuanyuan
    Heaven Sword Dragon Saber 2003

Don't think there are other HSDS adaptations where I felt sympathetic to Zhou Zhiruo's character but I thought these two did really well, especially Sharon Tang.

    Dodo Cheng
I don't think of her as having ill-intent but I think her actions are motivated by self-interest (for herself and for her family) instead of by morals or ethics, good or evil. Such conflicting feelings with this character though! I love the match between her Yin Susu with Simon Yam's Zhang Cuisan. But I also really disliked her indirect role in the injury of Zhang Cuisan's martial arts brother.
