Episode 35 – Tang and his disciples reap the fruits of their labours (Grand finale)

Without you Monkey - the scriptures are useless

It turns out that these two rocks are Monkey and Na Ja, Tang and the others are totally distressed, Tang weeps that the scriptures are of no use now and as he pushes them into the rocks, a tear falls onto the scriptures, at this time the two rocks start to shake uncontrollably and finally a Super-Monkey and Super-Na Ja burst from the rocks. Tang’s tear has caused them to reincarnate. Monkey and Na Ja return to the black cavern to destroy the Great Demon whilst Tang and the others remain on Earth to help by chanting the Sutra…

The Great Demon is finally defeated and everyone can laugh out loud, Monkey is pleased to see the reappearance of Purple Orchid and says that he doesn’t want immortality, he just wants her to be the queen of his Fruit and Flower Mountain and Water Curtain Cave, when everyone hears this they are all very upset. Orchid says it is all too late now, but Monkey doesn’t understand, when he goes forward to hug her, he realises he cannot touch her…. He holds onto her spirit and carries her lifeless body as the third golden hair drops from his body.

All the immortals convene in the palace as Monkey, Piggy and Sandy step forward to receive their rewards, but each still show they have a regret that Tang cannot see their successes, the Empress laughs and says that she will not allow them to have regrets and the three are joyful as they see their master emerge. When they receive their rewards, Sandy chooses to go back to the Earth to try the emotions of sweet, sour, bitter and spice. The three pay their respects to their master one last time as they each go their own ways.

Purple Rose complains to the Empress that after gaining enlightenment, Monkey has not been looking after the Peach Garden, giving them more work to do. The Empress comforts her, saying that he will definitely return this year. When Monkey is reunited with Rose, he is very emotional. After splitting up, Tang and his disciples each indulge in their new lives – how do they get on?
Not long later, Monkey resigns his immortal post – now why would he do that?

Love it or hate it - my work is done....

To be honest, I don't think I will be watching it after having done this, well not in the near future anyway. The ending sounds more like Dragon Ball than Journey to the West, but there you go!

You see, this is NOT a remake of the movie. Its has a *adopted* ADOPTED.

I wouldn't say its a bastardization of the REAL JTTW. If they wanted the remake, they could have just used the same plot over again with different acts and perhaps better graphic.

I haven't watch this movie, yet. I know I wouldn't be too disappointed when I watch this. The viewers has to oberve and be open minded when watching this film. You can't be biase from the start.

I agree with Athena.

Actually, I can overlook many things except the fact that they abused so much of religion themes. the scriptwriter must be Catholics for there are many instances of tear sheddings wash away sins. Hmm, that is definitely christianity ideology.

There is no such sin cleansing in Buddhism.

Also, killing a parent is the worst sin ever. and to make Naja do that is not FUNNY at all!!

I wouldn't mind if the whole series is just plain silly and all harmless jokes, but to really misinterpret the religion teachings to the younger generation (yep, tell them that just regret and cry, things will be all right and a real hero just have to be like dicky's sun ng kong. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/disgust.gif" border="0"> ) is a true crime.

I sincerely weep for those children who would grow up remember this jttw as their ideal.

Well, I blame this series for the immense damage it will cause in the future.

He doesn't end up with either because they both die and monkey reaches the stage of enlightenment where he no longer falls in love. (I haven't watched the show - but this is what I gather from reading the summaries.)

I agree that this version of "Journey to the West" is admittedly disgraceful, but being a teeny bopper whose mind is filled with nothing but cute romance I can't help but like what goes on with Monkey and Chi Lan (Purple Orchird) and what goes on between Na Ja and Chi mei (Purple Rose) <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Anyway, can somebody please post monkey's complete name, the long one with the titles? Just curious as I never catch it all when he says it. A translation would help as well! *hehe*

And for anyone who is watching the 2002 series of Super Trio Show - don't forget to catch the 13th episode where the cast of Monkey King are the guests. Dicky, Edmond, Eric, Sam and the others let on about some of the funny moments during filming and some embarassing stories involving flatulence and falling down stairs together with the usual fun and games. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
