It's weird how they make Suen Ng Hung fall in love with the fairy, too much changed from the original story.
The costume in here is so bad. I mean, the costumes and make-up for the main stars (famous ones) are nice but the support cast are so bad. Dicky Cheung doesn't really look like a monkey, he looks like a person with too much hair. The monkeys in the beginning doesn't look like monkeys either.

Episode 9 - Tang is instructed to find the Scriptures from the West

Monkey, if you will accompany Tang to the West and seek the scriptures then this will be a great chance for you to save yourself from the Five Finger Mountain.

Buddha indicates that Monkey is the one who will fight the Great Demon and overcome the crisis, Guanyin decides to go to the Five Finger Mountain to look for him. Just as Monkey is cursing three mud figures of Buddha, Jade Emperor and Mo Kuk, Guanyin appears. Guanyin says she has brought him an opportunity to save himself, which is to accompany the high priest Tang Sam Jong to the Western Heavens to seek the Tai Shing Scriptures, and that he requires the utmost in courage and determination to succeed, Monkey agrees. Yuen Chong arrives at the palace to see the Tang Emperor, after he reads the Sanskrit on the precious box, he is instantly accused of offending the Emperor by Official Ngai Ching, just as he is about to be hauled out and beaten, the box opens to reveal a demon, Yuen Chong risks his life to save the Emperor and the demons disappear, the Emperor realises that the demons were just an illusion and only the one with a sympathetic heart will have no fear. The Emperor makes Yuen Chong the Tang Chief Priest and issues him with a silken robe and a Snake Staff, sending him to go and retrieve the scriptures on his behalf, Tang gratefully accepts his mission.

Tang and his two companions meet a mirage on their way and also meet with demons who stand in their way, it turns out that this is a test laid on by Guanyin for Tang. Guanyin will present him with four disciples to and tells him to firstly go to the Five Finger Mountain to rescue his eldest disciple Monkey. When Monkey sees Tang, he quickly asks Tang to release him, Tang says he has no manners so Monkey can only apologise to him politely and voluntarily wear the Golden Light Band on his head. When Tang recites the scriptures, Monkey breaks out from the rock. Tang and Monkey start their journey, but Monkey immediately says he wants to return to the Fruit and Flower Mountain and for them to go their own ways. When Monkey is on the flying cloud, he feels that the Band is tightening around his head and he feels unbearable pain, the only way for the pain to ease is to become Tang’s disciple. To reach his goal more quickly, he tries to use the flying cloud but he is sent to the end of the earth, the Crane Immortal tells him that to reach the Thunder Sound Monastery, he must do this with his feet on the ground and the more sincere you are, the nearer you will be, Tang takes this on board, but Monkey is not content with having to travel by foot. Tang reminds Monkey that he is half a monk and should put away his mortal heart to stop himself from causing trouble for himself and others. The two reach the Flowing Sand River where the villagers say that the river waters have been cursed and not even feathers will float in it, Monkey is curious and goes to the river bed to see for himself the reason.

what's wrong with this director, the graphics is so bad in here, too much graphic is not good for a series. He spent so much time on the stars and costumes/make-up but not enough on the storyline. I'm just so disappointed after watching the first 5 episodes of this series, after waiting for it for such a long time. The beginning is kinda interesting but it gets really boring as it goes on.
But the sub-theme is really good, I notice that all of the subthemes that Dicky sang are better than the themesongs.

Might as well rename it 'Monkey King and Naja' and did away with the tang monk.

JTTW is originally a literature and to make it funny and light hearted like in TVB version is fine but to twist the theme and the entire content is really outrageous.

Tang Monk with SNAKE staff? Did he turn a wizard or something??? Obviously, the production team had no clue of what they were making. Chung Gwai (Nic Tse)'s palace in here was used in a lot of series before. It was used in A Step Into the Past, Legendary Siblings 1 & 2, and now this.

They are cutting the story ridicolously. They just started with the story, and suddenly they jump to the final fighting scene. It was like they simply cut a complete episode out!!!

This makes this JTTW remake the worst TVB remake ever. The story makes no sense at all now!

Em, i think u should stop doing the episode translations for this series. it's incredibly ridiculous, boring, and bad.

save ur time and do another series (Lofty Waters, Verdant Bow!!) especially since u find it so boring to do MK summaries.

and honestly, i don't think anyone's reading it....so i think ur just wasting ur time. MK isn't worth all the time & effort u put into it.

please Em, continue your summary, it's really great and I want to continue to read it (and as well as put it on my site, whenever it's up again, and I promise, no more project until march or april next year since I'll so lazy at updating my site right now that I don't think I can handle anymore additional series sites). The story is quite different from the original Journey to the West so there's still something to read even though it's boring.

Episode 10 - Tang's three disciples appear

It is tough being a dragon prince because your fame and popularity will not last forever.

Monkey goes to the bottom of the river to see that the fish demons and the prawn demons are all fanatical about the eldest prince of the Western Dragon King, Lung Ma, Monkey is not happy at this and scolds the demons and Lung Ma (Dragon Horse). Lung tells of the sorrow in his heart, Monkey introduces himself and suggests that he goes along with Tang to seek the scriptures. Lung Ma is overjoyed when he hears of Monkey’s name because he knows his destiny is to become a disciple of Tang. Lung Ma says that the floods are not his fault and this is due to the neighbouring wild man. Monkey goes along to take a look and finds that he cannot understand what this wild man is saying, later he discovers that this is General Guen Lim (Sandy) who has been punished by being sent down to earth to wait for Tang.

After changing form from a pig to a human, Tin Fung (Piggy) eats without paying and when the waiter calls him a fat pig, he angrily rises to teach him a lesson. Tang and co arrive to be the guests of a merchant and their host points out that Piggy is his son-in-law, however he is greedy and perverted, making everyone dislike him and he asks Monkey to help sort him out, Monkey agrees on the condition that he provides them with food and shelter. Piggy pretends to be a woman and enters a beauty contest, gaining first place with his pig breasts and his appetite, and taking advantage of the other village girls in the process. Piggy takes the prize home to share with his wife, but finds there is something not right about his wife, this is because it is Monkey in disguise. Monkey beats Piggy to a pig-head and at this time Tai Pak appears to tell him that Piggy has a part to play in the journey to the west, he also says that if Piggy and Sandy can successfully seek the sutra, then they can both return to the Heavenly Palace, Sandy is overjoyed at this but Piggy says he needs to think about this. Tang gives Piggy the monk title of Bat Gai (eight commandments), Monkey sees that Piggy still wants to think about the offer and threatens him angrily, Piggy can only agree to go but wants to be the head disciple, making Monkey very angry. Tang issues a puzzle for the three, saying that whoever can answer it can become the lead disciple, the result is that Monkey wins and Sandy becomes the third disciple. Tang takes his disciples on their way and Piggy leaves his wife reluctantly. After Piggy leaves, the whole Ko family starts to celebrate. The four travellers met a grandmother and her grandchild, Monkey finds that they are demons, and without saying another word, he kills them. Tang scolds him for killing life without consideration and Piggy adds words to the argument, even pushing for a vote about whether Monkey should stay or go.
