however, after reading the book, i found out that those tvb scriptwriters butchered the original plot to the extent of only 20% is compatible! really disappointed as the original story is really interesting and adventurous.

Hong Siu Long went to all 7 countries and had different adventures in each country. There are also many interesting charaters which are either combined into another charater or completely forgone by those scriptwriters. One of my favourite character must be Kei Yeen Yin, a beauty who is also a scholar & a swordswoman. Of course she is HSL's love interest and Kam Ching is nowhere near her!

well, i must admit that the actual story is very long and it would be impossible for tvb to remake it word by word. But then if u can't make it, don't do it! Why butcher a nice plot just for the sake of fitting it into 40 episodes!!!

i sincerely recommend the book to everyone, but if u love the serial so much & don't hope to hv any bad impression on it, then forget about reading the book!

has the book ever been published in English? or have there been any attempts to translate/synopsis - i'd really like to read it.

I don't think so. The Chinese version consists of several volumes - 30+ volumes for the small format (size of the book) and 7 volumes for the big format. But it's a interesting read. The earlier part of the story is kind of graphic since our hero is involved with many women but the story becomes more exciting when it develops further as Siu Long tries to survive in the chaotic poltical world between the different countries and men in power.

There had been rumors that Emperor Qin was the son of Loi Bo Wai since Emperor Qin's mother, Chiu Gei, had perviously been Loi Bo Wai's concubine. But nothing has been proven so far in history and the rumors remain till this present day.

Chiu Gei did have an affair with Loh Oi (Kong Wah's character in the show). In history, Loi Bo Wai and Chiu Gei passed Loh Oi off as an eunuch so that Chiu Gei could continue her affair with him and when Emperor Qin found out about the sex scandal, Loh Oi tried to lead a revolt against the emperor. He didn't succeed of course.

The burning of books as you see in the last episode also happens in history. In history, Emperor Qin ordered (although in some historical records, it was said to be suggested by his advisor, Lee See - acted by Power Chan in the show) the burning of the books was to suppress freedom of speech so that Emperor Qin could unify his people's thoughts according to his way. The books that were spared was those written by Qin historians. People (scholars, their families, etc) were executed, some were banished in the process.

I originally watched the series coz I tot Louis was going to end up with Joyce Tang. However, in the 2nd episode Jessica Hsuan appeared.. Well I didn't reali like Jessica's character in the beginning and much less her hairstyle. I prefer her in "game of deceit"..
i was hoping for someting new ..like a new pairing for louis..guess i din xpect him to be with "her"..kept forgetting her name but she was in many series..legend of love, love and again, etc.

I read somewhere in this forum that the Book was close to pornagraphy and that Hong Sui Long was actually a man-***** who went around sleeping with every girl he laid his eyes on. Since I don't know if that is true or not, I just go by the people who actually read the book.

TV is re-running this. I like Louis's Xiang Shiao Long a lot. He's so terribly funny without over doing it! and he takes things so easy in the show! I love characters with such personalities! so cool! Louis actually has very good qualities to be a great artist unfortunatley, he butchered his credibility as an actor when he went on to do a slew of movies that were really trashy....its a real pity.

I just want him with Jessica Hester Hsuan and no one else

Halina? Halina Tam? Was she in it? There were JH, Sonija Kwok, Joyce Tang, Sherming Yiu, Suet Lei and Michelle Saram......(I haven't seen the drama serial for quite some time)

The only reason I watched this series is mainly b/c Gallen Leo and Adam Chung, their acting skills are super great. Louis' and Jess' performerances are okay not so outstanding tho.

Stop spamming. Gallen Law and Adam Cheng were never in this series.

I can't stand Michelle Saram's acting. She is like a rock, no expression and sounds like she bite her words as she speaks! Terrible acting! Also, her character in this series are so boring that I've ended up fast-fowarding all the scenes!
