    Default HSDS Adam Cheng's version

Just finished watching this and I was quite pleased. There were some flaws since it was so dated, but I watched it for other things. For example, Adam Cheng did a great job as the main character. He was tall and had that "Dai Hup" look. Tony Leung wasn't able to achieve this because of his height. The fight scenes were slow as expected, but surprisingly they got faster as the show progressed. All the good fight scenes involved Adam as he seemed like the only one that looked good. He had a short hand to hand exchange with Ray Lui, who was still an extra back then. This exchange was short and sweet. Adam's height and the way he performs his kicks and punches made him look really good.

The theme and sub songs by Adam Cheng were excellent as expected.

Chiu Ngar Chi was so damn hot in this show. I'm not a big fan of Liza Wang and never thought she was that good looking, but she was a eye candy in this show.

What's with the ending? I haven't read the novel before and is this ending accurate in this version?
"If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put it in a bottle it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friends.

Yeah Adam has always looked "handsome" in his kungfu series..actually I still find him quite handsome for his age--he got a great built.

Was this the one that Liza Wong dies right?

No, that's not accurate at all to the book. The book has an "open" end between the two girls and ZhengWuji.

Yes, this version is the one that Chiu Ming has to die (assumably and possibly) which does not correlate to the book's ending.

TVB received a number of complaints so they decided to film another ending to fulfill the dream of Cheung Mo Kei and Chiu Mings's fans who were pissed at the bitter ending. The alternate ending was aired on K-100.

    Agree wholeheartedly
The ending wasn't that bad. I didn't mind it. It was just kinda sudden and I didn't expect it. Since I have seen the 86 version of HSDS, I pretty much knew what was going to happen in each scene except for some minor things, but the endning was I like whoa, where did that come from.

And yes Adam Cheng rocks. I'm a guy and I'm not homosexual. He's just so damn cool, he can act and sing. Who can do that nowadays?

Now I really want to see Luk Siu Fung but my dad didn't record back then cause he said it was really boring. I don't really care now. I'll watch any ancient series that has Adam Cheng in it.

I saw this series many many years ago and thought it was ok, but isn't my most favorite adaption. I liked Liza as Zhao Ming the most though. She did a good job and I was sad when she died.

I think Adam is talented, but there are PLENTY of actors/actresses that can sing and act these days. Therefore, he definately isn't the only one at all. I think Adam's acting is really good, but his singing is just ok.

Did you see Adam in the Hawk?? I love him in that series and that is my most favorite series of him. I liked him in there more than CLH. Did you see CLH? He was pretty good in there too...

Lisa Wang wasn't bad in this one, but in Chor Lau Heung she was really really cute.

    Sacrilege!!

It's impossible to compare Adam, Roman, Jennifer, Lisa, Frances etc to the current generation of singers. Their ability to sing wuxia and convey a sense of real grandeur and majesty into the songs they sing remain unmatched by anyone these days... but the Joseph Khoo probably has to take a fair share of credit for those wonderful songs.

Adam Cheng is unique, and one of a kind! There's something really rich and grand in his voice which has never been replicated in any modern singer.

In the 90s he didn't sing that many songs, but Cold Blood Warm Heart was one of the more memorable ones. He also acted in The Greed of Man, whch was totally different from his normal roles, and which made a lot of people respect his acting more (although they hated his Ding Hai).

and even while in ATV, some wonderful songs including Zhuge Liang (even though the series itself was a bit weak)

Adam's a legend. There are tons of other songs which I can't find on Youtube, and I'd kill for them on CD. Sadly, marketing is not Crown's forte.

Funny, but I actually am a bigger fan of Adam's singing than acting. I loved him in CLH and HSDS, but not as much his more recent work... I think he hasn't adapted well enough to popular modern styles of acting, its definitely a personal opinion, but it seems to me that the more recent serials have more close-up's and demand a certain subtlety, while Adam strikes me as being closer to a stage actor with a more dramatic style.

In any case, I love the songs he sang for the various serials he was in... thanks for the youtube links! Its been awhile!

BTW, when I saw the HSDS one in particular:

I was impressed in the opening sequence how the actors and actresses did their own sword wielding and seemingly in one shot- and they would follow it up with some dramatic interpretation of what's happening. Very cool- no words, no body-doubles, no CGI, just sword play (Liza Wang's sword tossing was cool!) and dramatic facial expressions to show what's happening in mime! Neat stuff!

Well, it all comes down to a matter of each individual's opinion so I respect your opinion even though I don't necessarily agree with everything. I think each talented artist is unique and one of a kind, not just Adam. I personally think his singing isn't so great, but is his acting is really good. I don't think anyone can truly replicate anybody even if they do try to since each person is unique and special in their own way. For example, Jacky Cheung is really talented and unique as well. Many singers from the new generation have tried to replicate him, but they can't so they eventually have to become their own unique self.

I also have to say that Zhu Ge Liang was a horrible series and a big waste of Adam's talent. That series was a disgrace to actual history and the historical character Zhu Ge Liang. Of course that was not Adam's fault at all. I do agree that he is one of a kind and I really commend him on being such a great artist after sooo many years.

You also didn't need to provide me with all of those links since I have heard Adam sing all of those songs and many others. THerefore, I am NOT just making an assumption on his singing because I did not say his singing is bad. But I also don't think it is that great since I have heard better.

I do agree that singers like Jenny Yan, Francis Yip and Roman Tam are unique and very hard to find these days.
