Serious Crime Squad CID Sung Ka Fai (Steven Ma) is has great respect for his brother-in-law Shum Chi Leung (Ng Ngai Cheung). Leung asks Fai to help him look after his business and just as Fai is about to resign, the son of stock market hunter Kwok Wai Fung (Lau Dan) is kidnapped, together with Leung's son. For professional and personal reasons, Fai hopes to catch the kidnappers. On the surface, the case seems to be connected with Triad linked Ching Wai (Ngai Wai). The kidnappers demand that Leung himself goes to pay the ransom so he follows the instructions and throws the box with the ransom inside into the sea, where it disappears...

Finally, Leung's son is rescued, but Fung's son is murdered. Not long later, the police also find the body of Wai. Who is the real mastermind behind this?

    FAQ: What is a telemovie?

A telemovie is TVB's own movie production, bringing together some of their own stars for a one-off 90 minute episode of a self-contained story.

They were popular in the early 90's when a great number of these were churned out, aired at the weekends in Hong Kong and conveniently placed on one video for the overseas market who liked them because they saved the tedium (and cost) of renting the long drawn out series.

It all stopped for a while, but filming started again a couple of years ago and once again they are back!

The range of topics in the stories is vast and the quality varies between the different directors and producers, but the majority are worth checking out as they serve as a trial size version (almost like pilots) for possible full length series spinoffs.

Hope that's answered the question for you!
