    In the most famous wuxia novel Shuihu Zhuan (Outlaws of the Marsh), two of the bold fellows of Mt Liang had this surname: Cai Qing and Cai Fu. Their roles were pretty minor, though. They had just a little more 'screen time' than Guo Jing's ancestor Guo Sheng did.

    If we're going outside wuxia then in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms the Cai family were quite prominent in Jing, although the characters we meet are less than nice. Cai Mao and his sister Madam Cai try to get Liu Bei killed, and want to have Madam Cai's son Liu Zong as Liu Biao successor. Cai Mao's cousins Cai He and Cai Zhong are sent to spy on the Wu camp and horribly outsmarted by Zhou Yu who uses them to relay false intel back to Cao Cao. All four end up getting killed eventually.

    The ROTK is not strictly a wuxia novel but I can see quite a few wuxia elements in it. For example, I don't know if JY was influenced by Zhao Yun's impressive feat at the Battle of Changban when he wrote the part about XF's massacre of the brave fellows at Juxian Manor, but there're obvious similarities between these 2 events. In the ROTK there are also duels between strong generals which last 100+ bouts or several days, which definitely resemble the fights between some major characters in JY novels.

    Speaking of the people with the surname Cai in the ROTK, besides those 4 uncool characters that you mentioned, there're 2 decent ones: Cai Yong and Cai Wenji (Cai Yan) (I bet most readers of the ROTK can't recall these 2, esp. Cai Wenji). In the ROTK they only made short appearances, but other characters held them in high regard, and their historical counterparts are quite famous, esp. the daughter Cai Wenji.

    If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;

    There's also Yin Kexi of ROCH.

    Edit: there's apparently a fellow in Book & Sword by the name of Yin Zhanggai. 尹章垓

    忽见柳荫下两个小孩子在哀哀痛哭,瞧模样正是武敦儒、武修文兄弟。郭芙大声叫道:「喂,你们在干甚麽?」武 修文回头见是郭芙,哭道:「我们在哭,你不见麽?」

    That might not count, as it's likely just a Sinicization of a Persian name.

    Mei Chaofeng. That's probably why I've always been partial to her character.

    You should read Flower Guarding Bell and fall in love with Mei Yinxue too!

    Another Jin Yong "Mei" who is quite respectable is Mei Niansheng from Linked Cities. Mei Jianhe from Sword Stained With Royal Blood and Mei Fanggu from Ode to Gallantry aren't that inspirational, sadly.

    My last name is Nguyễn, which would be 阮 in Chinese. The only 阮 I can think of is Ruan Xingzhu, or 阮星竹, one of Duan Zhengchun's lovers and the mother of A'zhu and A'zi. Does anyone know another character with the same surname? 阮 is not that uncommon of a surname. I'm surprised there's not more in wuxia.

    There's a Ruan Shizhong in Flying Fox who's in the Heavenly Dragon clan. He's a noob though.

    To my chagrin, the only notable Jin Yong character who shares my surname is the despicable Cheng Hak Song from DOMD.

    I'm honored to have the same surname as Guo Jin but at the same time "ashamed" to have the same name as Yin Zhiping.
