Default Why didn't ZSF help ZWJ?

The death of Mo Shenggu was initially (and wrongly) attributed to Wuji. His Wudang uncles believed that he has done the deed, and there was a scene in which Wuji secretly visited his late parents' tomb on Mt Wudang. He was crying when Zhang Sanfeng appeared before him. Thinking Wuji to be the culprit, Zhang Sanfeng was aloof to begin with, but he soon turned around after Wuji pleaded his case.

Zhang Sanfeng then advised Wuji against any encounter with his Wudang uncles before the true culprit was discovered, citing the strong affection between them as the reason. However, since he believed Wuji, why didn't he simply explain (or attempt to do so) to his disciples?

After all, he is the Zhang Sanfeng. His disciples had great respect for him and held him in high esteem. Surely his words would have carried some weight, however skeptical his disciples might be?

I'm going by the TVB adaptation with Tony Leung. Perhaps Jin Yong has it differently in his novel?

Yup, different. The remaining brothers chanced upon Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min together with Mo Shenggu's corpse in a cave and assumed him to be the murderer. With no other alternatives, Zhang Wuji fought with them and subdued them, sealing their pressure points. Later, while being immobilised, they and Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min overheard Song Qingshu's conversation with Chen YouLiang and realised that they've wronged Zhang Wuji; the actual culprit was Song QingShu.

Song Qingshu joined Emei, fought for Zhou Zhiruo at the Lion Slaying Meet (can't remember exactly what happened), but he suffered a crushing defeat, literally. His skull was somehow crushed - or re-constructed.

In 2nd Edition, he was carried back to Wudang, where Zhang SanFeng finished his life off with a single palm.
