Don't worry this is not a romance series at all... (it is not supposed to be anyway). Ok, this takes place during the 3 ancient dynasties period. The 3 ancient dynasties are the Xia, Shang amd the Zhou dynasty which was WAY before Qin SHi Huang or any of the other dynasties. ANyway, this was towards the end of the Shang dynasty. It all started when the king of the Shang wrote a poem to commemorate the beauty of the goddess Nu Wah. Nu Wah was furious, so she sent the evil fox spririt whom processed De Ji's body and ceme in to seduce him. She seduced him to do a lot of bad things like kill off the loyal officials, which led to many rebellions fomr officials that were under his rule. Therefore, his kingdom was falling apart... They all then gathered together and supported to Zhou Min Wang as the new ruler. Zhou got a lot of support from the gods such as Na Zha and his family, Yang Jin(the 3 eye god, and other gods. The shang got support from the demons and other creatures, So the gods were fighting against the demons... Of course in the end, the Shang dynasty fell and the Zhou dynasty rose..... It lasted for about 807 years.

The fox spirit was captured in the end and executed...

The generals that were killed during the battles were admitted to the Tai Feng Shen to become Shen... They were crowned by Khuong Tu Na.

If they follow the novel, this series should be really good and filled with a lot of action. THere are parts that will are sad and touching, but it should not be filled with romance...It is more a god and heavenly type series that has a mixture of really ancient history.

Why was she angry? I don't get it! Is it because he called her beautiful???

Wow! Isn't she a bit narrow-minded to go and kill millions of people (the ones in battle and politicians and the innocent ones that the king killed for fun) just cos some guy wrote a poem about her beauty! It's so weird!

I remember that he said she is pretty also that he want her to live with him that make her think that he not respect the God and also he is a King of the country if he just only care about beauty woman so how he control the people. She as Da Jie come with the King to make his wishes come true also that is the testing of him to be a good King or not.

She was angry because it is disrespectful to a god/goddessto have those types of thoughts towards them. As you have probably known as a common theme in many series, gods and goddesses are not supposed to involved in any kind of mortal love. Especially, since he is a king, he should know better that he needs to respect gods/goddesses.

Actually, Da ji was not sent to test whether he is a good king or not. She sent her to seduce and control the king of the Shang dynasty so that he can wipe out all of the loyal officials, which would in turn make his kingdom fall. That is his punishment for being disrespectful to the goddess, Nu Wa.

It is considered an act of blasphemy when you express your humanly love upon a Chinese deity like Nuu Wa. But King Zhou isn't innocent either, he's brutal and corrupt. But still, I never liked Nuu Wa when I watched the rerun of the original TV series when I was little back in China. I would always ask my mom why does Da Ji have to take all the blames, not Nuu Wa who ordered her to do so. Then Mom would always reply that because Da Ji is an evil fox spirit, that's why. I didn't buy the explanation but was too young to know how to rebut back then. Now I know why I was so uncomfortable with Da Ji taking all the blames for the demise of the kingdom. The early Chinese written history was heavily influenced by Confucianism and the writers were sexists, they tended to rationalize the fall of the emperor or the demise of the kingdom by pointing the finger at those beauties loved the kings or emperors. It was the beauty of these beautiful women that caused the kings and emperors to neglect their rightful duties, blah blah blah, you see this type of plot in Chinese ancient dramas so often. The original story of Feng Sheng Bang actually tells a Nuu Wa who's selfish, who hangs over Da Ji to the Buddhist deities and turns her back on her, but the TV adaptation 15 or so yrs ago didn't bother to convey a selfish side of Nuu Wa, instead they made Da Ji the great antagonist, enhancing the stereotype on Da Ji once more, I'm a feminist, and i hate this type of caricature!!!

    TO NessunDorma,
I agree with what you are saying. I remember that TV adaption from China. It is very accurate to the novel. My mom has read the novel 2 times and loves it. That is why she hates it when series are not accurate, but she liked the China one since it was a good adaption. I didn't think it was right of Nu Wah to do that either. However, my mom would yell at me and says that I need to respect her since she said that Nuu Wa helped to seal up the skies and saved all of humankind when life first began. I do have respect for her, but that does not mean that I agree with everything she did.
I agree that the king of Shang was also bad and corrupt, but Da Ji just made things worse.... Da Ji(or should I say the fox spirit) is NOT innocent herself. She did a lot of really bad and horrible things that I am sure Nuu Wa did not ask her to do.She is sooo cruel. I don't remember if it was all portrayed in the series, but this was what was in the novel. One of the things was that she killed Bo Kao and used his meat to make a dish for his own father!! I think that was portrayed in the series if I remember correctly. She even captured pregneant women and dissected them so that she can look at the unborn baby!!! She also made the king capture innocent people and chopped their feet off just to look inside their ankles at the tendons!!!! Da Ji is far from innocent herself. It is true that Nu Wah sent her down to make the Shang dynasty fall, but she over did it and did many bad things. I remember towards the end when Da Ji and her fox sisters were being chased by Na Zha, Yang Jin and other gods. Nu Wa stopped them and handed them over to the gods. They then asked her why she sent them, but is now betraying them?? Nuu Wa said that she did send her, but all of those bad things that she did had nothing to do with what she asked them to do(the ones I mentioned above) and Da Ji had nothing to say.... BUt I don't think it was right of Nuu Wa to betray them like that either. However, it didn't matter since the gods would capture them sooner or later and execute them anyway...
However, this was not done by the "real" Da Ji, but the fox spirit. The real Da Ji is a really beautiful, sweet, innocent and everything good. It was so sad after she was processed and now has to carry on the burden of "qian gu zui ren".

I watched the TVB version of this a few years back. This series is more like Xian Jian Qi Xia Zhuan type of fantasy/magic series. I am a traditional wuxia type of series fan, so all this fantasy/magic series are not really my cup of tea.

The TVB version did not do this story any justice at all. The actual story is really good... But yea, if you don't like god and heavenly type of series, then you may not like this series or story. I love wuxia too, but love these heavenly types of stories as well.

Actually this series isn't really like Xian Jian... It has to do with gods and stuff, but is different...It is more associated with history, while Xian Jian is more with fantasy.

If Steve Ma is playing the king, then he will be evil. Well, more on the line of being a useless (never tending to govt affair), womanizing (only spends time with the women in his harem and mainly the fox spirit), and cruel (killing good govt officials in brutal/bloody ways) king. Not sure if the script will change the character, but that is how the king is portrayed in the novel and tv adaptations. It will be interesting to see Steve tackle such a role.

Actually, the king of Shang wasn't that bad. I mean he definately wasn't a "ming Jun" but I wouldn't call him "evil". The evil fox spirit seduced him into doing things that even he did not want to do. She was able to seduce him because the goddess Nu Wa give her some power that would make force him to do things that he did not want to do. I guess part of it was that the Shang dynasty was going to come to an end anyway, so all of these things had to happen.

i still put it down to him being a weakling to start with...no one could force u to do anything u don't want to do...its not like she hypnotised him or something...

i'll be really peeve if the film did make her hypnotise him though...

    Arrow Shang Dynasty Legend

    To Trinie
Was King Zhou the last king of Shang Dynasty? I am totally confused with the name “Zhou” – King Zhou (last king of Shang Dynasty?) and King Wen of Zhou (father of King Wu of Zhou, first king of Zhou dynasty). Their names associated with “Zhou" though, they were different persons from different dynasties, right?

Can you tell me the relationship between the last king of Shang & the fox sprit that described in the original novel? Some of news and articles stated that the fox spirit was King Zhou’s favorite concubine (Ai Fei). Is it true? I heard that, there are kissing & intimate love scenes in this series. The news said that 馬景濤光看到劇本詞句,便已經面紅耳赤了,那根本是情色小說,太露骨了!」 What I understood from this statement was – when Ma Ching Tao saw words and phrases of the script, his face has then already been turned into red, "that was totally a sentimental novel, too has been undisguised!" I’m wondering how the novel described the intimate scenes of the two. Were those intimate scenes that bad? I mean was it too obvious, too much revealing in the original novel or the script just makes it up? Correct me if my translation is wrong. I also heard that both Steve Ma and Fan Bin Bin hesitated to accept the offer to portray such characters.

I haven't found the official website though, found pics of this series.
Here are the some pics of this series:
