There's another Yang Jia Jiang adaptation I really liked... Yang Men Nu Jiang? It stars Carmen Lee as Yang Ba Mei and Andrew Lin as Yang An. Rather old compared to the recent releases, but all the same very enjoyable.
Here's an MV to refresh memory : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7G65F3FMAI

I was Googling earlier and was surprised at how little information there is about Yang An....

Legendary Fighter Yang Heroine is also an awesome series! I love both versions a lot. If anyone by any chance didn't get to watch that one, I highly recommend it. Carman Lee acted well as Yang Bamei and Andrew was very charming. Ning Jing and Ken Chang are also a very cute couple, too bad they didn't have enough screen time together. Theresa Lee was just too adorable!

lol, I can talk about these two series forver :]

I was rewatching this series since its been awhile and I got to thinking back to the triangle between Guan Hong, Yelu Xia, and Wu Lang.

During the wedding, Yelu Xia snuck into GH's bed chamber to cut off all emotional connection with her and when he poured the wine cup for her to drink, it felt like he was testing her if she would really drink and cut connections with him or if she would set it down.

Do you guys think that YX would have taken her away if she had refused to drink the wine? He genuinely loves her very much and couldn't even kill her when she rode onto the battle field and towards the ending battle.

During the wine scene, she hesitated to drink it as if she was thinking it over on whether to drink or not. Which leads me to believe that she loves YX more than WL, but she's too stubborn for her own good to see the man in front of her. This action of hesitating also leads me to believe that if YX took her away by force, she would be mad and hate him, but not for long. She would eventually get over her anger and see the love he has for her. Maybe she married WL because he was from a prestigeous family and had the fame of a hero.

when i first watched, i really thought that YLX and guan hong were going to be together. however, i dont believe that GH is the type of person to marry just for fame/prestige or money. she's so much better than that, and i think thats one of the reasons WL fell for her, because she was so unlike other girls. (YLX too, i guess) but i do genuinely believe that as she hung out more with WL, she fell for him. maybe she still had some lingering attractions to YLX (who wouldnt be attracted? ) but i believe that she loved WL.
its like jean said in x-2: girls flirt with the bad boy, but always end up with the good boy

I was also wondering a lot on that scene. Yea, I'm on the same boat with you, I felt like YLX was trying to test GH and if she didn't drink the wine, he would have taken her away. But then here's my perception, when I was watching the series, I saw like chemistry oozing out of YLX and GH and I didn't even see much from Wulang and GH so when she said she liked WuLang, I was like wtf? lol yea and the thing is I think she a very stubborn girl and she knows she can't have a future with YLX because he is a Liao, and the fact that her family died because of the Liaos didn't help the relationship. So basically, I always felt that she actually had a lot of feelings for YLX (not even as much for Wulang) but then she is also always trying to avoid him because she can't put the past and racial barrier behind her (I don't mean she is racist but it's just something like you wouldn't mind having a black friend but you wouldn't consider marrying a black guy/girl either if you are not that race). Well, another thing is she knows Wulang loves her and that he is a good guy and the same race, I never felt like she married him for money or anything like that but it was just that he is a more stable and acceptable candidate for her husband than YLX considering all the obstacles in their way. Somtimes I even felt like she was trying to use Wulang to forget about YLX and her feelings for him. I was so sad YLX and GH didn't end up together T.T because I wanted them to be together sooooo much. And the ending was sad, besides all the people dying, because they didn't talk much about what happened to YLX after that. I desperately wanted a fanmade sequel where GH and YLX ended up together because I know a real sequel like that will never come out lol.

I'm right there with you Icrayray on a fan made sequel and get YLX and GH together at last cause I'm very dissatified with the whole WL/GH relationship.

In ancient China, if a married woman's husband dies or becomes a monk, can the woman remarry?

hm...I am not too sure. I know it is not considered a good thing to remarry in ancient China, especially for woman, because people tend to think that you are a **** if you do I guess but being a widow for your husband for the rest of your life is thought of as a highly honorable thing though. Nevertheless, I don't care, I wouldn't mind YLX and GH going off to a place where no one knows them a start a new life/family.

Is this a better version than Yang Men Hu Jiang? Was there any difference in the focus of the story or do I expect the same re-telling as the first version only to be acted by a different set of actors?

Even though I have not seen this one yet, I have seen Yang Men Hu Jiang and that was one of the most horrible series that I have seen in my life!!! Gosh, I hate Yang Men Hu Jiang...I think based on just what I have heard from others, this series will definately be a lot better since YMHJ was a piece of junk!!

I really liked YMHJ. I thought the cast was great and the story was touching. I personally liked Alec's acting. Hmm...but I'll take my chances on this new version.

I remember you Trinie! Merry Christmas. How are you?

I am shocked that you actually liked it, but I am guessing it was because you don't know the actual story. If you did, then I don't think you would like it very much.

Sorry, but I don't remember you. However, thanks for your good wishes, Merry belated X'mas and a happy new year to you as well... I am ok for now and please feel free to PM me at anytime. I honestly don't remember if we ever talked or not. My memory is really bad these days...I have forgotten many people...

I honestly don't know of a site with the story of the Yang family. My mom has read books about them but those are books that we checked out at the library. Why are you so focused on just Yang Si Lang??

Oh really?? Which forum was that??? Did you ever email me?? Thanks and happy new year to you too.

I don't recall having emailed you...We met a long time ago and I have been inactive in most of the forums I'm in so I don't see how I can be remebered.

I am unfamiliar with the real story behind Yang Men Hu Jiang. I have not heard of the family or the event that occured with them before I saw the series. I thought Yang Si Lang was an interesting character.

THanks for telling me. It is not just you that I have forgotten. There are a lot of other people that I have forgotten from my past, even people that I have met in person. My memory is just fading these days...

I have watched a lot of other series and my mom tells me a lot about them so I know quite a bit about them. They are an interesting family... Yang Si Lang is actually the most tragic brother in the Yang Family in my opinion. He is not the only interesting one though....

I think Guan Hong loved both Yelu Xie and Wu Lang, but in different ways. She and YLX shared a more passionate and fiery type of romance. There were sparks flying everywhere when Guan Hong was with YLX. YLX was the type of man that made her heart thunder rapidly each time he turned his dark, mesmerizing eyes on her. He represented danger, thrilling and adrenaline-pumping kisses in dark alleyways, wild and uninhibited sex. Wu Lang, on the other hand, was a safe harbor for Guan Hong. Where YLX was everything dark and exciting and uncertain, WL was calm, stable, and dependable. She loved him because he represented security. He was a good man, handsome, and came from a good family. He was Sung by nationality, and hence, the more politically correct choice. And loved her, just as YLX did, too. By choosing WL, Guan Hong made a sensible and safe choice, rather than gamble on a life with YLX.

To be honest, if I were Guan Hong, I would have trouble choosing, too. I like security that a man offers. What woman wouldn't? Every woman wants to know, with a relative degree of certainty, that the man she picks will give her a good life, won't cheat on her, and will love her to the very end. But sometimes, love is one big gamble. Nothing is an absolute guarantee.

I just finished this series and really enjoyed it. Even my mom did but said that some parts were not true to history, however, those were only minor points. It was a great series with a good plot and cast....One of the best series about the Yang family.
