haha...Sissy4life, I'm sorry...please forgive me. I didn't mean to offend you. I didn't know you're a high-class CHIWAWA. I beg you, leave me alone and take your high road back to taco bell.

Well hello Icyfoxy---that's a cute SN, you must be a girl. What lovely avatar you got there...must be your handsome dad. I can see his beauty in you. You're as beautiful as a griffin.

    Unhappy

Please, can we all stop posting ugly messages to each other and being rude?

For myself, I do enjoy reading people speculating on the plot even if some of it may be spoilers.

I have seen the 2001 serial of this but I really really am having so much fun reading this novel. And I know there are other readers like me here who come and read Pokit's daily post with as much anticipation and enthusiasm as I do.

These are two reasons why I am having fun helping Pokit with the editing (and the added bonus of being able to read chunks of the translation in advance).

Please let us keep this thread fun and happy again. Let's all just talk about the story and the characters. Thanks!

I was holding back. I read the book and saw all the crappy series, except the 1988. I was going to post all the major plot twists but the monkeys didn't get me angry enough.

Yep, Xiao Ao Jiang Hu is the best written novel by Jin Yong to date. It's such a shame that it does not get as high of a fanfare or amount of discussion as do those Condor novels. Also TVB should release the 1996 State of Divinity and make another adaptation.

Yes, sorry about that... he's obviously new to the forum and he probably thinks people is gonna take the bait and reply to his obnoxious messages.. I already put him in my ignore list

For myself, I do enjoy reading people speculating on the plot even if some of it may be spoilers.
The problem is that some of those speculations come from people that already know the plot... rather disingenuous if you ask me.

But do you really need to say that out loud? Do you know how time consuming and hard it is to translate the novel?

    That comment was unnecessary.
Sorry if this offended you but I really appreciate those who have translated this. I don't have any intention to downgrade anyone efforts on translating this novel but rather explain on my situation and the spoilers effects on me.

I was just trying to suggest some of the method if someone intended to write spoilers here.

I do agree with you on this. It's one thing if you speculate not knowing the plot in advance (and guess right) but it's an entirely different matter when you've read the book or seen the serials. But of course, we won't be able to differentiate between the two. So, we must trust that people would be nice and thoughtful in general.

We do have the Wuxia Fiction forum to start such a thread.

I really can not understand why people become worked up just because people state their personal opinions, and most of the people write their opinions in a civilized and polite manner.

And yet some people feel threatened by those who write their personal opinion and begin to respond in uncivilized and rude manners.

And as far as I wrote, I only stated my opinion of what I considered to be a spoiler. Even a child will understand what I wrote was just a personal statement which attacked no one.

This time I will give my personal opinion of that replies written since my last post.

ChronoReverse, its in my opinion that you need to forget the fact that you're a senior member just because you have been a member far longer then us. Everyone is entitiled to their opinion. Freedom of expression is one of the 'God-given Rights' written in the United Nations Human Rights Treaty.

Your statement "What we will fault you is not having the courtesy of letting other people decide that for themselves." is uncalled for and are the words of an uncultured barbarian. I hope you really arent one. I wrote my opinion and it is up for each individual to decide for themselves. And I DO NOT and WILL NEVER give out any fore-knowledge of what is to come (if I knew any). However that does not mean I will give out clues and show possible paths that the storyline could take (formed from observation of what has happened so far). I do it to encourage people to think and anticipate what is to come, feeding their curiousity.

Was it not Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, a detective who formed conclusions from logical deductions.

adamwesttl, please mate, just calm down. Don't you think its kinda funny to get worked up over someone's rude comment. Its life mate, some people can't help being rude. A classic example can be found if you play the WORST EVER DESIGNED mmorpg called Conquer Online by the WORST EVER PROGRAMMERS who ever lived TQ Digital.

IcyFox, I've read many of your posts before in other threads, and it is just my plain opinion that you should BUTT OUT. If it doesnt concern you stay out. And if you must say anything, say something that isnt aimed at insulting others.

I do apologize if I offend anyone. But I feel that it would be much better if people show more understanding to what others write. Tollerance is much needed.

Concerning Jin Yong's novels, I once read somewhere that XAJH is the only novel without a time period specified in a obvious manner. But judging by the fact that Wudang sect already exists, it is sure past the period of the Yuan Empire. And if I am not mistaken, the ending of HSDS took place in the last few years of the Mongol rule of china.

That same article wrote that Jin Yong deliberately did not specify a time period for XAJH because he intended the story as a satire of governments and politicians. It said that the characters YBQ, RWX, LHC, ZLC, etc represents the nature of politicians and citizens of a country in real life.

Wasnt "Journey to the West" "Hsi Yu Chi" (correct me if I am wrong on the chinese title) also written as a satire of the government of that time?

Senior member eh? Did I ever try pulling rank? And you bring it up?

Opinion eh? I am entitled to my opinion that you are spoiling then aren't I? Did I go and physically stop you?

BTW, it's only "God-Given" in the United States constitution. Furthermore in both the UN and USA versions, Freedom of Speech only applies when you don't disturb the rights of others. In the US one, it also only applies to public areas which do not include forums where you have to sign up.

Right, every self-proclaimed civilized culture makes a point of calling everyone else uncultured. How about being polite instead of calling me that?

Good. Then you better not eat your own words. Because I can do the very same and infer a number of equally plausible explanations to what has occurred. It's rather surprising that you didn't surmise and present the alternate possibilites.

Was it not Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, a detective who formed conclusions from logical deductions.
Observation. Deduction. Inference. However, Sherlock also does not jump to conclusions when he doesn't have enough information for a single possible thread of evidence.

Obviously here we are surmising with a lack of information though. Nonetheless, that's all the more reason for posting alternatives that are presenting themselves.

Don't be like Stanley, Lestrade or Gregory and be stuck on a single thread.

But I feel that it would be much better if people show more understanding to what others write. Tollerance is much needed.
If you are going to talk about tolerance and such you cannot post something this:
IcyFox, I've read many of your posts before in other threads, and it is just my plain opinion that you should BUTT OUT.
Especially when in the very same post there's a mention of freedom of speech and how everyone can have an opinion.

    To continue with the translation...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sun was shining brightly. Everyone saw clearly the words “Violet Twilight Secret Manual” written on the book. Lao Denuo’s expression changed greatly and he tried to snatch the book back. Linghu Chong shouted, “Stop him!”

Yihe already had a sword in her hand and she quickly made three slashes. Lao Denuo lifted his sword to trade moves but he couldn’t advance a single step.

“Dad, how come second martial brother has the secret manual?” Yue Lingshan cried.

“Lao Denuo, you killed sixth martial brother, didn’t you?” Linghu Chong asked in a loud voice.

That day when sixth martial brother was killed, the “Violet Twilight Secret Manual” also went missing. He had been blamed for both incidents since then on. But today, it was really unexpected that after Lao Denuo's waist band was cut by Heng-Shan School’s disciples, Huashan School’s treasured scripture would fall out from his pocket.

    “Nonsense!” Lao Denuo shouted.

As he said this, he lowered his body and charged towards a small alley. Linghu Chong was fuming as he gave chase. But he only managed to run a few steps before he swayed and fell down. Yilin and Zheng E quickly rushed to his side to support him while Yue Lingshan picked the book up and gave it to her father. “Dad, it was second martial brother who stole the book.” Yue Buqun’s expression was pale as he looked at the book and ascertained that it was the internal energy secret manual that had been passed down from the previous Huashan School’s leader. Luckily, the book was still intact and undamaged. He then bitterly said, “It was you who wasn’t good, taking the book because of your feelings.”

Yihe didn’t want to let them off that easily so she said in a loud voice, “That's what you called to follow your bad example.”

Yu Sao walked in front of Linghu Chong and asked, “Hero Linghu, how do you feel?”

Linghu Chong gritted his teeth, “My martial brother was killed by that thief. It’s a pity I can’t chase him.”

He saw Yue Buqun turned around and entered the escort house followed by his disciples. They then shut the escort house’s main door. He thought, “Master’s first disciple has learned the Devil Sect’s evil martial art. His second disciple killed a martial brother in the same school and stole the school’s secret manual. No wonder he’s outraged!” He then said, “Abbess is being besieged so we can’t delay any longer. Our most urgent matter is to quickly go and save them. Sooner or later, that thief Lao Denuo would fall under my hand.”

Yu Sao said, “You’re currently injured, so... so... ai, I can’t say...”

She was previously a servant. But at this time, her position in Heng-Shan School wasn’t low and her martial art was not weak, but her knowledge was limited. So she didn’t know how to express her appreciation towards him. Linghu Chong said, “Let’s go quickly to the horse market and buy some horses.”

He took out the gold and silver taels out of his bosom and gave them to Yu Sao. But there weren’t enough horses on the market, so the lighter female disciples had to ride double. They rode out quickly towards the north from Fuzhou. After going for more than ten li, they saw more than ten horses grazing on a field guarded by about six or seven soldiers. So these horses must belong to the military.

“Get those horses.” Linghu Chong said.

“Those are military horses. I’m afraid it’s not appropriate,” Yu Sao hastily replied.

“Saving people is most important. Even if it’s the emperor’s horse, we’ll still take it. What do we care about appropriate or not appropriate?” Linghu Chong argued.

“It’s a crime against the government authorities, I’m afraid...” Yiqing said.

“Is saving your Master more important or obeying the law more important? What his granny government authorities? General Wu is a government authority. If General wants horses, those little soldiers won’t dare to deny him!” Linghu Chong reasoned.

    “Yes!” complied Yihe.

“Knock those soldiers down and get their horses,” Linghu Chong cried out.

“Twelve horses are enough,” Yiqing said.

But Linghu Chong roared, “Get them all.”

He had an air of authority about him as he roared out his commands. Ever since Dingjing Shi Tai passed away, the Heng-Shan School's disciples had been mournful, frightened, and were at a loss about what to do. But when they heard Linghu Chong vigorously shouting his command, they urged their horses to charge forward, knocked down the soldiers guarding the horses, and seized all the horses. Those soldiers had never seen outlaw nuns before, so as they were knocked down to the ground and unable to move, they shouted, "What are you doing?" "What kind of joke is this?"

    Outlaw nuns. That's just hilarious.

And here we see how LHC isn't the absolute upright hero. Interesting how he still makes excuses for YBQ.

It's funny how the bastard and his posse just convienently walked away.

pokit, thank you for the translation

why is this YBQ let the thief walked away?
Is not that clear that he is a murderer?
may be YBQ has a reason for that behaviour?
I can see he said he will wait for LHC to recover before he will kill him
but why dont he kill the student thief?
