Post Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre

What happened to the Heavenly Sword and the Dragon Sabre after HSDS?

The Heavenly Sword was returned back to E-Mei Sect, while the Dragon Sabre was under the Ming Sect in the hands of Zhang Wuji.

Are they mentioned or seen during the novels that takes place after the era of HSDS?

In the Sword Stained with Royal Blood, there was mentioning that the E Mei school has a powerful, ancient sword that was in the E Mei school for generations now.
The Golden Snake Swordsman, Xia Xueyi told He Hongyao that he needed some items before taking revenge on the Wen family. So, he told her that he was still missing a powerful sword and he was planning to go to the E Mei School and see if he could steal their legendary, ancestral blade. However, He Hongyao quickly told him that her sect had a powerful sword too. So, instead of going to E Mei, he took the golden snake sword.

So, that mysterious, ancestral and powerful sword of E Mei could be the Heavenly Sword reforged.

    Question

Since Ming Sect was eradicated under Zhu Yuanzhang's reign, can we assume the Dragon Sabre also perished along?

Isn't it just the Heaven Sword? Cause in the new editions....didn't they reforge the swords after the secrets were removed?

Oh, that may be what you meant....but anyway, since we're on this topic of the swords, how does the golden snake sword compare with the Heaven sword, cause ain't the Heaven sword made of a special material???

The Heavenly Sword was left unreforged at the end of HSDS.

The heavenly sword and dragon sabre was made of some special material (I'm not sure what is was, I GUESS TITANIUM), since its so hard to break.

The Ming Sects 12x Fire Scepters was also unbreakable when hit by heavenly sword and dragon sabre.

I'm not very sure about the golden snake sword. How about the Dog Beating Stick? Will it break when hit by these two super weapons?

I would think they that had some small amounts of other metals in them that confer strength and other desirable effects such as anti-corrosion and hardness.

Cast iron which is the hardness kind of iron around has a 6.69% of Carbon present in it which makes it so hard and not easy to break.

Dragon Sabre (not sure about Heaven Sword now) was made from YG's sword right? So it's made of xuan tie [玄铁].

As to what this is, its probably something JY conjured out of thin air. If xuan tie is just a nickname, and JY based it on a real element, then it has to be something with very high density.

Heavenly Sword was forged from the YG & XLN's Gentleman & Lady Sword, while Dragon Sabre was forged from the Xuantie Sword, which formely belongs to DGQB many years ago.

It was said soem gold from the western region is added to the forging of the Dragon Sabre.

Easily. The Dog Beating Stick scepter was just an ordinary bamboo stick. It was so fragile that it generally wasn't even used for fighting, just ceremonial purposes.

I think in 2nd or 3rd edition Jin Yong changed it so now both the Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber were made from the Xuantie Sword. The Dog Beating Stick is not only just bamboo, it's been in the Beggar Clan for ages so it's probably half rotten or dry or something (then again, no one ever pointed that out so maybe it's still in pristine condition).

The conventional wisdom seems to be that titanium is a bad material for swords and the best is still carbon steel, although there were supposed to be possibilities involving (IIRC) ceramic or plastic or whatever, not that much effort is going into developing new swords

i was under the impression that the Da Gou Bang or Dog Beating stick was made of jade and not real bamboo. It was carved to resemble a segment of bamboo.

Anyway i think the hardiness of the stick was not an issue since it wasn't meant to be used as a smiting/slashing weapon but rather depended on clever moves of the Dog Beating technique to "borrow" the opponent's blunt force.

The Beggar's Sect was primarily all beggars, so where they go find the money to make a "jade" dog beating stick?

The Beggar's Sect has plenty of money, do you think Xiao Feng begged for food

Whilst titanium is used in the aerospace industry because of its high melting point and high strength-to-weight ratio, it would be a poor metal for forging a bladed weapon because it is also rather brittle.

Similarly, cast iron is also a poor metal for a blade because it too is brittle. It is however good for making pots, pans, burners, etc.

I always thought xuan tie was some kind of meteorite metal?

    Edition 2:
Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre were made from the Heavy Iron Sword and various "precious metal from the west."

    Edition 3:
Heaven Sword is made from the gentleman and lady swords of Yang Guo and Xiao Longnu.
Dragon Sabre was forged from the Heavy Iron Sword and various "precious metal from the west."

Titanium isn't brittle. It's capable of quite a lot of flex. Hence its use in aircraft wings.

Ahahaha the fantastical materials invented just for wuxia use. Like the Thousand-Year Icy Jade bed in ROCH's tomb sect. Any decent material must be old, so they usually put some prefix to indicate the extreme ancient age of the metal or whatever. Oh and another favorite is the super strong silkworm or spider fabric. The latter at least has some scientific basis.

So titanium is light, or heavy material? Kind of confused

Did you know that the US bought much of the Titanium for the SR-71 Blackbirds from Russia via 'dummy' companies?

Here's an excellent article on why titanium is unnecessary and is actually inferior to steel in a sword: http://swordforum.com/metallurgy/titanium.html
