Default Why did Bak Hiu Sang turn his back to Lee Chum Foon?

Bak Hiu Sang, weapons master extraordinaire and one of the key conspirators (along with Lam Sin Yee, Lung Siu Wan, and others) in the framing of Lee Chum Foon as the Plum Blossom Thief, tried to escape after he was exposed by taking the Chief Abbot of Shaolin as his hostage. This was a good plan and almost worked until Bak turned his back to Lee Chum Foon while trying to effect his escape.

Um, did Bak have a sudden mind fart or something? It's well known that nobody can dodge Lee Chum Foon's dagger even if he faces Lee directly. Bak's only chance of escape was to keep the Shaolin Chief Abbot in front of him as he backed out of the door. But noooo...Bak *turns his back* to Lee Chum Foon while going out the door, and we all know what happens next.

How could a devious, cunning, and experienced wulin veteran such as Bak Hiu Sang make a huge and obvious mistake such as this?

Were you watching a TVB adaptation?

    From bliss's translation

Bai Xiao Sheng said, “It doesn’t matter what you say. They won’t play around with your life. The life of the Shaolin abbot is way too important.”

As his last word came out, his smile suddenly stopped!

    The dagger shined!

Little Li’s Flying Dagger is out of the hand!

The dagger has flown into his throat!

No one saw how the dagger came out.

Bai Xiao Sheng had kept Xin Hu as his shield, his throat behind Xin Hu’s throat. He only left a tiny bit of his throat out.

It can hide behind Xin Hu’s throat at any time.

In this situation, no one would dare to make a move.

But as the dagger shines, faster than lightning, Little Li’s Flying Dagger reached his throat!

He was facing LXH with the abbot in front of him. There was be a slight gap as long as he doesn't press his throat against the abbot's. But even that slight gap was enough.

Their 1977 classic. It was just weird how Bak Hiu Sang just knowingly turned his back to Lee Chum Foon like that. Wouldn't that be just like painting a big target on his back?

I could see some inexperienced rookie panicking and making that mistake, but Bak Hiu Sang?

That's why adaptations while they can be enjoyed, can't be used as an accurate depiction.

Xiao Li Fei Dao has been fully translated. You should read it.
