Default Emperor Guo, the Peoples' Emperor of china

Guo Jing could have have history and could have made things different for the common people. If he had made different decisions and altered the course in his life.

If he had married the Khan's daughter( and not Huang Rong), he would have become a trusted official in the Khan's court. Because he was such a great General, and the Khan's son-in-law, he had a good chance to inherit the throne. When he becomes the great Khan Guo, he could assimulate the Mongolians into the Han culture. impliment policies that are good for the ordinary people. He could have also united all the Wulin heros and promoted peace and posperity for all.
He would make a good Emperor and Khan of China.

Looking at the character did he ever exhibit the kind of far-sightedness and smarts required for such an endeavor?

    Default hi, my first post

    Hi all, my first post

Even if that was the case he would have to fight under the Mongol Banner and be labelled a traitor. Then he and YK could have a battle for the title "The greatest traitor in JY works" instead of competing with XF for "the greatest hero in jy novel" title

Although it will be fun to see him battle HQG and the QZ masters! This will likely happen as both of those sects are defenders of Song. W/O GJ in ROCH the Mongols will most likely try to eliminate those 2 sects first.

Didnt XF explicitly get offered the position of "southern emperor" by the kitan king but refused it?

An interesting choice for GJ will be if the Song wanted to eliminate (take over) the Mongels (we have to imagine that China and Mongolia trade roles of aggressor/defender and the Song werent so pathetically weak), will he defend Mongol territory?

If he had married the Khan's daughter and not went south, he wouldn't have learnt the Dragon Palms and 9 Yin and that means he wouldn't have lasted to make Khan.

Nope. No matter how much Ghenghis liked GJ, there is no way Ghenghis would be stupid enough to give the throne to a guy who's not blood. No matter how JY wanted it, even he knows that he couldn't alter history this much. GJ could've been a high ranking official and probably the "khan" of China (under Mongol rule), but there's no way he would get the ultimate title of the Mongols.

Anyway, it's all moot because if GJ was that kind of person, he wouldn't be known as hero Guo and readers would not like/respect him at all.

I think it was said that Genghis Khan would not mind giving up the throne to Guo Jing, if he pledge allegiance to the Mongol Empire. At that time, all of Genghis Khan's sons were all inferior in terms of war tactics compared to Guo Jing, due to the Wumu Manual on GJ's hand.

Gwok Jing was a great man and a hero, but I think he'd be a terrible national leader not in spite of, but *because* of the very qualities that make him such a good man.

National leaders need to be Machiavellian (like Genghis Khan was). They cannot afford to be scrupulous about morals. Morality is a luxury that national leaders cannot afford. They must do what's best for *their* people, regardless of whoever gets hurt in the process.

Take former U.S. President Jimmy Carter as an example. He was probably the most decent and humane person to serve as U.S. President in modern times. He was honest, fair, and kind, and partially because of those characteristics, he was an unsuccessful President. He basically let the U.S.'s enemies and rivals exploit his goodness and fair-mindedness to bully and take advantage of the U.S. Americans then (and now) respected President Carter for his character, but did not want him to be President anymore after four years. His successor, Ronald Reagan, was a less morally scrupulous man, but a much more effective President. Reagan did what he had to for what he believed was the U.S.'s good, even if those decisions were immoral at times or hurt people in other parts of the world.

Gwok Jing as the Sung emperor would be like Jimmy Carter as President of the U.S.: a man too good and too decent for the dirty job he would need to do.

Moreover, Bai Qi44 is right: no matter how much affection and respect Gwok Jing received from the Mongols, the fact was he was *not* a blood relation to Genghis Khan's family or even an ethnic Mongol. The Mongols were willing to follow him into battle, but they would not consent to being ruled by him.

Who in the world would choose Hua Jeng over Wong Yung? Secondly, he would be labeled as a traitor and cursed by millions upon millions.

It would have never happened because Ogedei was just about as talented as his father and Khagans are chosen in a kurultai. Not only would the Mongols have chosen Ogedei, but he was also clearly Genghis Khan's choice to succeed him. In no way could Guo Jing measure up.

GJ could get rid of Ogedei at any moment he wanted.
