Default What is your favorite ROMANTIC MOMENT in wuxia?

OK, I asked a question pertaining to wuxia, but I am going to break my integrity and give the first semi-wuxia answer.

My favorite romantic moment of all time is probably from the movie STORM RIDERS. When Wind (Ekin Cheng) and Charity (Kristy Yeung) are in the forbidden ground playing with firebugs. The song in the background, coupled with Andrew Lau's Wong Kar Wai-esque cinematography, (Lau was previously Wong's camera man) made the moment truly magical.

A lot of ppl'll probably choose something sappy from the likes of ROCH or something...I have a feeling. In general I think JY's a little better at creating the mood, whereas GL tends to be a lot more direct (naked women jumping out of nowhere, "her legs were straight as pencils..."), though they both pale next to Huang Yi, whose style regarding this borders on pornographic instead of just romantic...

But anyway I'm going to pick the beginning of the Everlasting Sword from the Seven Weapons series, where the protagonist meets the female lead in the spring drizzle. The description is very spare, but GL's good at drawing detailed pictures with just a few strokes.

I am shocked by this forum's lack of enthusiasm over a romantic subject.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE romance...but the most appealing romantic storylines to me are the subtle ones because whatever small gesture one person does for another has a much more significant meaning behind it imo.

roch is too over the top and dull for me...

loch's hr&kj is actually very sweet...but there was no one single defining moment in that relationship which stood out from the rest. the relationship has been consistently and innocently sweet from the beginning. and there was chemistry between this pair!

my point is, it's hard for me to define my favorite romantic moment in wuxia because the relationships that appeal to me most are the ones that take time to develop and are built upon shared events which help the characters grow together and understand one another better. and these relationships tend to lack one grand romantic moment, and i guess i prefer this kind of relationship. don't get me wrong...i'm the kind of person who's very passionate and fiery but relationships that are built upon excitement tend to die much more quickly.

with my thought out of the way, i must confess that i haven't read enough wuxia novels to have a favorite moment.

gu long's men (the protagonists) are too hormonal for my liking.

the only jy novel i read completely is ssrb...i guess the moment i enjoyed the most was near the end when ching ching was angry at yhz. she was injured and fell in and out of a coma during her separation from yhz (she thought he had feelings for the princess). and during her comatose state, she kept on cursing him and calling him a two timer. yhz heard all of this while he was trying to cure her, and hearing her doubt his undying love for her pained him, actually causing him to cry. i just thought that was sweet how ching ching was so insecure about his feelings for her, yet instead of getting upset at her for behaving so irrationally, he embraces her faults and loves her for all that she is...and he never once doubted his feelings for her (in the 2nd version...of course jy had to edit it so that i dislike yhz now...stupid mistake )

it was just nice reading that scene...he stayed by her day and night, lost rest over her, and was terribly affected by her opinion of him...

yes, that isn't the ideal romantic scene but it's what i like.

I think the guys in the forum are too "manly" that to talk of romance with Wuxia, they fear they might turn into a Duan Yu or a Yang Guo.

2 other scenes which i've always enjoyed from spw (though i haven't completed the novel):

when yls and lhc went to catch the fire flies...i was totally rooting for this couple because one could see how much yls meant to lhc...and they were the best of friends during their childhood. so sweet, simple, and pure was their childhood love.

another scene was when lhc was sent by his masters to live in isolation on top of the cliff and yls climbed all the way up to the mountain to keep him company despite her week inner energy and skills.

reading these two scenes always touch my heart, especially the latter scene.

    So.....
Hey, shut up. I'm woman enough to talk about romance.

Let's see, the most touching and romantic moment has to be WXB with the 7 women in The Deer and The Cauldron. That's a scene that would make even the toughest man feel romantic.

My favourites though would be scenes in LOCH where GJ carried an injured HR up the mountain to see Yideng, and the fight against the Beggar Clan 8-bag disciples, in which GJ was fighting them with one hand while touching HR's hair with his other hand and asking how she was.

Patricia, I agree w/ you about this couple. When i was watching the adaptation in the 80s, I was totally hoping that they would be together in the end but then she went and fell in love w/ another dude who didn't deserve her at all!!! And then she died and LHC fell in love w/ someone else. I thought it was sad that they didn't end up together. I guess that's one major reason why I never really this story that much. But the fire flies scence was really sweet and romantic. And all the times that they practiced their sword techinques.that was sweet too.

When Mie Jue met Zhang San Feng! Or when Gong Sun Zhi and Qiu Qian Chi met each other again after 16 years of separation!

How about when Ah Zhu chased after Xiao Feng told him that she would follow him wherever he goes, no matter whether he is Han or Khitan!

yes, i adored their relationship...but too bad jy had to ruin it with his latest edition. their relationship was sweet because yhz only loved ching ching no matter what but freakin' jy had to add in a love triangle in his latest installment. can't he just leave a good work alone?

When Guo Jing took care of the injured Huang Rong all the way to meeting Yi Deng.

Esp at the part where both of them fell off the steep slope, HR wanting to let go and let herself fall to her death so GJ can just grab hold of something and survived the fall. But GJ replied that he would never let go and if they have to die, they would die together.

    wat? wat triangle relationship?

i remember there were other girls who fell in love with both the main guy and Ching Ching but i don't remember the two mains liking anyone but each other.

i adored their relationship because it was a very childish sort of thing, it was like two teenagers falling in love for the first time, neither knowing how to really act about it.

in jy's newest revised edition, yhz is first smitten when he sees the princess and has some feelings for her. he still stays with ching ching in the end but his heart does not belong to only ching ching which freaking bites. all of a sudden, i've lost interest in ssrb...the faithful love yhz has for ching ching is the reason i liked the previous edition soooo much.
