    Default Wuxia In The World

How do you think it'll work if JY or GL ever wrote about Wuxia characters in the modern world? Weird Sports? Godly Sport players?

GL did have one novel set in a modern setting, about two friends and the girl they both loved. One grew up to be a police inspector and the other grew up to be a gang leader, so you can see where it leads. But it's by no means wuxia.

When you have guns and modern technology coming into play it becomes hard to stick to many wuxia conventions. Plenty of modern crime dramas have elements of martial arts, but those do not feel like real wuxia stories.

Vigilantism is a celebrated aspect of Wuxia, yet it is illegal in almost every civilized country in modern times. I guess for modern-day wuxia to exist, it must either be in an alternate reality setting (Matrix) or in a post apocalyptical/futuristic setting where people can be expected to bend the law. I would also say your typical superhero stories (Batman, Daredevil, X-men) could be used as a platform for wuxia.

BTW, there was a HK movie directed by Wong Jing (you can see where this is going...) about modern day wuxia, starring Cecilia Cheung and Leo Ku. These wuxia characters have superhuman abilities but they hide them from public eye. Whenever villains use their skills to do evil, the 'good guys' would surface and put an end to their deeds.

It's a rip-off of Harry Potter basically. The Huashan where they train martial arts is like the magical academy in Harry Potter. It exists in our world, but 'normal' people just don't know about it.

I could imagine modern Sport players...

Haha! The sports would be stupid if you see some legendary martial artists like YG or GJ using internal power to pull the ball towards them then using internal power to shoot it towards the hoop.
