I'm not sure exactly what it says, but there's a new LOCH blog entry about differences in some of the characters and relationships (well, more focus on the relationships in general, especially family relationships). The entry also talks about Hu Ge's song for the LOCH OST, the theme of which will run throughout the LOCH instrumentals. And some famous guy helped put the OST together, I think. Lol, maybe someone who can read Chinese can give a general gist. I'm not sure what Hu Ge's LOCH song title is in English.

Didn't have time to read the whole article, but I read the part about the song and basically it said that they had the guy who did CJ7's songs (Huang Ying Hua) help compose/direct the songs. Hu Ge's song is called Wu Yun Ran. I don't really know what that altogether means, it sounds kinda weird to me, but
Wu=Crow (well, Wu Ya is crow...)
Yun=Cloud
Ran=of course (dang ran is of course...)
Sorry, tried my best...
BTW, it IS the song from the trailer. There is a short clip on tudou:

I like itBTW, Hu Ge's new song "Qu Ai Ba" (Go love) from his album "Chu Fa" (leaving) is really sad but REALLY GOOD!
CC, just because I don't reply the SNYJJ thread doesn't mean our contest isn't still on!I'm going to reply when I have time....
BTW I guess you already know this but I DO like Yelu Xie as well, in fact both he and Wu lang are pretty cool. But Wu Lang seems to be the underdog here, plus he's so innocent (lol), so...
Thnx so much for the pics Jing gege!!!!!![]()

@ all guys: the song in the 18 min trailer is absolutely sung by Hu Ge - our Jing Ge Ge. And this is the song clip cut from the trailer, only scenes of Jing Ge Ge & Rong Er:

The gist of the blog is that, compared to the previous adaptations, this one will emphasise "emotional themes". Specifically mentioned are: more on the Bao Xiruo / Yang Tiexin relationship; "development of the romance between [Guo Jing and Huang Rong]"; and Yang Kang's internal struggles in the context of his brotherhood with GJ.Originally Posted by swimfishyswim06
I'm not a big fan of BXR/YXT, but I think the latter two enhancements might be very worthwhile. In the original novel, Jinyong never really showed how or why GJ/HR fell in love - it was just as if he flicked a 'love switch' and they suddenly jumped into each others' arms. (JY does this a lot and it's a bit too fairytale-esque.) Again in the original novel, YK is set up to be a great, meaningful counterpoint to GJ, but ends up as just another minor villain.
Changing these things is quite populist but not a bad idea. Of course, it's all in the execution. Not wasting Ariel's talent by overdubbing her with some bland voiceover artist would be a good start...
I'm not a fan of BXR/YXT either, however, Kathy Chow did used to be very popular so it may be a 'kow tow' to that fact she is in the show.
I am also very interested in a GJ/HR relationship development, although...having read the novel twice, I felt there was development. It wasn't obvious but I felt the subtlety made it profound. It certainly wasn't love at first site, I think they were too young.
IMO, based on the novel, they truly enjoyed each other's company (well, GJ was blown away by HR's beauty but I thought it circumstantial, he wasn't awkward around her thereafter). Both characters had people they loved and got loved in return, but with each it was different I think. For GJ especially, he had to live up to expectations of all his elders; even though he had Tuo Lei and princess as childhood friends, I don't think he ever really was 'himself' with them, there was not that freedom and joy described in the novel as when he played with HR. HR had a good relationship with her father, but he was too eccentric/erratic to show her what a meaningful relationship based on consistent patience and affection would feel like - HR experienced that with GJ.
I guess the love may not be that obvious because I see it as a 'young, innocent' relationship. It's about enjoying being in each other's company and sacrifice if the threat of separation arises. It's not as passionate and mature as what was between YG/XLN.
I look forward to Ariel's performance because she appears fine in the previews. Still, lookswise, she doesn't compare with what is described in the novel. I don't think they have found anyone that I believe matches the novel's description. Yes, is supposed to be young and cute, but she is also supposed to be unbelievably beautiful...so much so that palace guards thought she must be a princess (one of the sixth prince's daughters) just based on her looks alone - the idea being such absolute beauty could only belong to an offspring of royalty. There was this actress who featured in one of ATV's Justice Bao who came close to a novel HR but I don't think she ever became popular.
In my opinion the actress for Huang Rong is perfect. She only supposed to be 15 so I don't think that she is too young. I don't understand why people were saying she is too young.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ariel's HR too. So far I like her interpretation from the trailer...and yeah, I don't think she looks too young: a good match with Hu Ge![]()
well i personally like ariel as hr but i think the problem is that old school viewers don't like the idea of pop stars/singers playing the role. but as we can see from other series these actors/actress can play versatile roles and what not. man anyone know when olympics begins and over? i hope this series airs or come out dvd or something before june.
Hmmm, dunno about that. The first time they see each other as boy & girl, it takes only a few pages before they're holding hands and cuddling and feeling epic romance. It's barely one chapter after Huang Rong first appears in the novel. It might as well be love at first sight. HR is certainly a complex enough character for there to be a 'story' as to why her feelings arise, but Jinyong never details it. From Guo Jing's point of view, the overall effect is of a gorgeous girl appearing out of nowhere and throwing herself at him (a common occurrence in JY's novels). That's not really a love story, but a fairytale...for guys.Originally Posted by NuDaFu
I'd agree with you that GJ/HR is about childhood companionship, whereas Yang Guo / Xiaolongnu is about teenage obsession. It's like a tiny but oddly mature marriage. The novel presents it as fairly platonic, which helps make some of the scenes slightly less cloying. I hope the new adaptation doesn't make it too soapy.
I actually think Ariel Lin is a rather good actress in the scheme of things, but if they overdub her - which they probably will - it sort of defeats the purpose of casting her in the first place. Looks-wise, the novel describes HR as "angelic...skin whiter than snow, a beautiful face charming beyond compare..." That's not quite Ariel, but personally, I reckon HR's beauty is at most a secondary characteristic. The director will have to make Ariel's first appearance as a girl pretty memorable, though. That is supposed to be a dazzling, epiphanic moment for GJ. Some clever camera work and sweeping music should do the trick.Originally Posted by NuDaFu
yeah of course theirs always good music. i actually like the way in 03 version where zhou zuns appears on boat smiling and playing the thingy(forgot whats its called in english) she looked very beautiful n way she smiled was well done. i understand where you going at with ariel, she's more cute then beautiful/hot. reason why she plays alot of anime type roles if u know what i mean.
I doubt I will watch this series anytime soon. It's too soon after the 2003 version. I even own the 2003 series on vcd. No reason for me to watch it again with new actors.
The trailer looks pretty good. It looks like the actors are prettier and more of a pan-Asian group in this one, and the budget is smaller. Like the army is a TVBesque 10 people and less.
GJ is too good looking, better looking than YK again. I suppose it's a necessary evil for tv. LOCH83 seems to be the only one to have gotten it right.
Sun Xing as H7G should be great. I really like his acting.
The actors for OYK and YK look quite similar to me on first glance.
This account is retired.
If your comment is in relation to my post, I never said Ariel is too young. I said she's involved in a 'young love' relationship. If it's not in relation, no worries.
I hope I didn't give the impression that I don't like Ariel playing HR. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but seeing as I've never seen her in any series/movies, I can't exactly say she will be good as HR either. I just said she doesn't look like what I'd imagine based on the novel's description, which owbjhx seems to agree with too. Frankly, I don't care what they've done in the past, because there has been actresses like Fan Bing Bing and Liu Yi Fei who I didn't think could act but certainly surprised me in their respective roles as Yun Lei/Ping Zhong Xia Ying and Xiao Long Nu/Return of Condor Hero.Originally Posted by Mido-Ban
I don't know about that 'epic romance' bit because I never really had that impression from LOCH, from ROCH yeah but not from LOCH. It's been a while since reading the novel (traditional character version is missing at local library and I simply refuse to read it in simplified characters). Although, if I could get my hands on the 80's version of the novel, I'm willing to do a 3rd read.Originally Posted by owbjhx
Anyway, kinder and prep kids can hold hands and cuddle...such gestures can be purely friendly and platonic. And I don't think either GJ or HR knows/cares about girl/boy etiquette. One early, possibly romantic part, is when GJ realizes HR truly cares for him when HR insists on matching up that overbearing lady with the 'Ox Daoist' to give him a taste of forcing someone against their will - more of GJ finally having someone who respects what he wants rather than have everything dictated for him. There isn't even anything romantic apart them swimming together, it was all play. Puppy love.
Development is desired for understanding, but JY is not a Jane Austen so I'm not surprised he doesn't develop his relationships. It is a martial arts novel after all and it did start off as a newspaper story...that's right up there with RPG based anime for me.
I don't care about the dubbing...if I can get used to listening to Korean I think I'm fine (I love and respect all languages but the tonal inflections of Korean used to really set my teeth on edge). Ah, I remember the Chinese description of HR...that's why I don't think anyone has ever found a novel HR, which is not necessary - portraying the essence of the character is more important IMO - just an objective observationOriginally Posted by obwjhx
. I don't know how they're going to 'work the cameras' to make Ariel stunning, she is a cutesy girl but not stunning. Lee Bo Young is stunning (looks, presence, and speech) in ancient costume, and I don't think I'll see anyone who can compare with her anytime soon.
That's the first version of LOCH I've seen that actually made the effort to have that scene from the novel...I was honestly disappointed in the 80's version for not doing it, and HR's hairdo was totally off. Although, I don't know if the current version will have it, although I'm not a fanatical purist, I would've love it if they followed the scene to the tee because it is a wonderful blend of discovery, beauty, and meaning (as in the poem HR recites to GJ). Loved how GJ saved the food for HR only to discover they had been crushed, yet HR treasured his gift anyway.Originally Posted by Mido-Ban

Contrary to the statement that Hu Ge is good looking I think that he is kind of ugly [at least in this picture].![]()

oh and btw, this was before the accident and the operation cuz u can obviously tell that something is wrong with his right eye after the operation![]()
dunno why people are making a big deal about a picture??? we know hu ge looks cool depending on different hair styles and angle. seriously now its 80's version vs 2006.08 version? all i can say all versions is good in their own aspects. this one in particular is intended to get younger audiences to watch the series. knowing older audiences will still watch it to compare etc to the other versions. let bygones be bygones each version is unique n good in its own way.
