^I'm going to guess that you aren't Chinese yourself because you don't seem to understand this at all. There will always be people who like watching martial arts and there will always be people who don't give a damn. It's been like that for millennia and I find it laughable the you seem to have a problem with this. Romance is a huge part of LOCH, caring more for that part does not constitute as not caring for the story. This has nothing to do with grandparents or whatever. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that fuyoko's grandfather was not a wulin gaoshou who could fly around with qingong and all. And if you want to be dictated by traditional Chinese values, then you should know that the warrior was detested and considered below the four respectable occupations.

Okay, you totally lost me on how you went from what I wrote to about not caring who our parents/grandparents/great ancestors are. I mean, I wrote about respecting the fact that people like drama/books/fiction for different reasons, what does that have anything to do with our ancestors???

You don't seem to understand the fact that each person have his/her own mind. Your/My grandparents might not even have the same opinion on a specific topic/issue as your/my parents. Your/my grandfather and grandmother might not even agree when discussing the same topic. Each person have what they prefer/like/dislike/believe in. There are people who watch a movie/drama/anime because of certain actor/actress/seiyuu/PD/writer that they like, or because they heard that the movie/drama/anime contains issues/topics that they're interested in. Who gives you the right to condemn them?

Let me ask you a question, have you ever bought a magazine or watched a show because you like a certain celebrity? I don't know about you, but there are lots of people who did/do that. There's NOTHING WRONG with that. I mean, you like JY, thinking he's so great. You like him for his writing skills, because he wrote novels that you fell in love with (he's a writer after all, that's what he does). Actors/actresses sell not only through their acting skills, but also their appearance. Liking to watch an actor/actress for his/her appearance is a natural thing.

I think Tong Hua's BBJX is a great novel. You, don't.

And about my favorite actor/actress suddenly becoming an ugly monster, are you talking about if they play that role? If yes then, it comes back to what is my reason for liking that actor/actress? For his/her acting skill, Or for the appearance, Or could be other reasons. I mean, for a role in a drama/movie, why not? playing different roles will help that actor/actress in improving their acting skills. I'll give you an example: TVB's Wayne Lai. He's one of my favorite actors. Wayne played the Pig in JTTW, Han Xin in The Conqueror's Story, and Chai Kau in Rosy Business and etc.. He played different roles, from good to bad, from ugly to handsome looking. Would I continue to watch him in the future even if he play secondary roles or ugly monsters? YES

the bbjx story and it tv series have brought death to a little girl indulging her into fantasy that make her think she can travel to the qing dynasty and make movies with the qing leaders.....

during the tv series.....they used good looking actors to portray the qing leaders as good.....it create a false image of the qing leaders to the han people especially little kids watching it.....

I think I haven't mentioned this before (not in this forum at least) that LOCH08 is my first ever and my favorite wuxia series. Maybe because when I first watched it, I didn't know anything about Jin Yong or about his novels and being the first wuxia series I've seen, I have nothing to compare it with. In fact, this series was the one who made me interested in Jin Yong (since I've read a lot of comments about the major differences/changes they made in this version and I just want to find out about those changes/differences) and introduced me to Mainland China series.

Well I seen pretty much all of it and have read the book although not sure which version I read as it just say author jin yong....

I can tell you and others that it's pretty much the same story lines......

Hero Kwok Jing grew up with the Mongols but in the end stand still with his han people....

LOL, they are here bcos no one talks to them anymore on ZJZ's Journey To The West thread after they flamed some really good spcnet contributors there. TBH, I actually prefer ZJZ's earlier works like SPW, TLBB, LOCH03 and ROCH06, even though I didn't like ALL the cast (must I? Seriously...). I do like LOCH03 and I really love Zhou Xun - I've been following her career since LOCH03 (nothing wrong with being a fan of both Zhou Xun and Ariel Lin right?). But the recent JTTW was a major commercial and critical failure in China (I actually live and work in China, unlike these two jokers who probably never even held a decent conversation with a Mainland Chinese citizen). JTTW was under heavy criticism for the overblown budget, majority of which was suspected to have gone to the fat salaries of ZJZ and Hollywood honchos James Cameron and Neil Gaiman who collaborated with ZJZ on the series. Notice that it took a long time to finally broadcast, and when it did, it was kept out of CCTV (previously the usual channel that aired ZJZ series) and only aired on a small provincial TV station. It became more of a direct-to-DVD/direct-to-Internet series rather than being broadcasted on a major powerful channel. That's terrible for a production that costed RMB300 million. JTTW did nothing for He Zhuo Yan's career and she's not anywhere near Liu Shi Shi's level of fame and star status despite being groomed by a huge company like Huayi.

If you're talking about the thing about JTTW 2011 not being put on the major station....it's because ZJZ dared to put some stuff in his JTTW version about corruption.....therefore the mainland leader have to put some kind of restriction on it.....Do all those other director in the mainland dare do that?

As for the budget thing.....neil gaiman and james cameron didn't have anything to do with the tv series but this year zhang jizhong is planning to make a movie of Journey to the West with their help....
