And what's my crime for wanting to watch wuxia for narrative and action rather than being enlightened with some esoteric Taoist philosophy? I didn't say I didn't respect Taoism. I'm just not interested. So what?

So only Taoists and the Taoist-inclined are allowed to watch wuxia is it? In that case, the Chinese movie/TV industry will never be international (and neither will your precious ZJZ!) if only people who believe/know about Taoism are allowed to watch wuxia.

OK guys, PrinceKrillo has already announced to everyone that those who do not believe or know about Taoism should not watch any wuxia movies and series for good, especially ZJZ's.

Wonder what ZJZ will think of his fan condemning his JTTW movie to majorly TANK at the US box office since 99% of Americans probably don't know much about Taoism, and hence are not allowed to watch his movie. Hee hee!

Taoism isn't some "religion" to "believe in."

It's plain and obvious philosophy to anyone with a brain.

Buddhists still contemplate and understand the Taoist Dao ... they just take it a step further with a "moral code" that you "need" to follow (which is why I'm not Buddhist).

    You don't "believe" in Taoism.
That's hilarious. I guess you don't believe in gravity ... or the laws of physics either? Because that's essentially what it is.

Do you believe that the sun rises and sets everyday in a perpetual, unending cycle?

Do you believe that life is made up of periods of joy followed by sorrow in a perpetual, unending cycle?

Do you believe that every action breeds a consequence, be it positive or negative?

Wow! Looks like you DO "believe" in yin yang.

Anyone with a SHRED of wisdom already understands these concepts. So what does that say about YOU?

To be CHINESE and to be completely clueless about Taoist philosophies is about the most pathetic, embarrassing thing I could possibly imagine. FAIL on an absolutely EPIC scale.

And then you're turning around and watching all of these wuxia dramas! LMFAO! Even your precious Hu Ge would SPIT IN YOUR FACE.

Typical, unthinking tools bred by the Communist Party of China.

And with that, I'm done with this worthless thread. I've wasted enough time trying to preach to those with no wisdom or brains. Why should I even care if you're a disgrace to your ancestry? GOOD FOR YOU.

Can we just talk about lotch 2006/08.

the only downfall with this series was i wished they could've have elaborated more about the hua shan battle, yang kang actually being powerful, at least make him a threat, really needed some better cgi, some of the fight needed more choreography.

they also skipped some scenes. one where hys marries the two couples, forgot there name, at place where oyk was suppose to died.

but still like this one with the 80s the best.

i hope tangren gets the go ahead from jy to make rotch with this same cast.

And as far as The Legend of the Condor Heroes goes ... even Genghis effin' Khan seeks out the philosophical wisdom of Qiu Chu Ji and the Quan Zhen Taoists towards the end of the ****ing novel. You were probably too busy fantasizing about Hu Ge's squash-shaped face to comprehend the plot. It's why Qiu Chu Ji is the BEST character in the entire novel. And why Wang Chong Yang is the BEST of the so-called "Five Greats." Because he's practically a Taoist Immortal (like myself) and could tear Ouyang Feng and Huang Yao Shi limb from limb. And why Zhang Ji Zhong gave himself that role in the series. Ohhhhhh ... now it makes sense, doesn't it? Puh.

Okay NOW I'm really going to bed.

This thread is revived and alive again, and my ignore list is also coming into good use these days. The clips sapphiresky (ancientseries) makes are quite good, especially the fast moving wuxia ones.

For me, I tried to enjoy this adaption without being influenced by JY's original, and I half succeeded, thus I quite like this version mainly based on it's action.

    Att: Everyone

Please from this point on, just ignore PrinceKrillo/IPlayWow. This poster obviously wants attention - regardless of context. Don't feed that attention by responding. We've all tried and obviously it hasn't helped. It's pointless to converse with individuals who do not respect other people's opinions. I have since contacted Ken/moderator to deal with the situation.

Yes, that was a very memorable scene. I'd say it was one of the best filmed in the whole series. The black and white contrast really honed in on that 'moment' when all you can hear is your own fearful heart-beat in the midst of chaos. LGL still has his touch.

Yes, that was another interesting scene. It's sad in a way. QCJ clearly had some control issues and couldn't separate his needs/ideals from those of YK. It looked like he expected respect was an automatic response rather than something to be earned. It came as no surprise, after he found out how obedient GJ was, to try and sink his claws into him too.

In LOCH82, Barbara/HR captured the problem hilariously with: "If you want a son to control, give birth to one yourself"...hehehe. (I think she meant go and marry a woman to beget your own son).

From the novel, HR announced to GJ that she was going to force QCJ to marry the rich, fat lady (who appeared the first time HR and GJ meet each other) as a punishment to QCJ for forcing GJ into marrying MNC. I found it touching that HR felt like she had to 'protect' GJ from being forced into something he didn't want to do. The way it's phrased in the novel, it sounded like a little girl protecting her bud from bad things, not because she necessarily could, but because she wanted to.

True. Also because Confucian values were such a high influence on socio-cultural behaviours and ideals.

"君子動口不動手" (alludes to 'Gentlemen strike with words rather than fists').

I think HR used more words (or tried to) rather than fists. This should make her a 'gentleman' . Remember, her words broke OYF's last threads of sanity (GJ's fake JYZJ helped). It didn't seem a 'fair' Wuxia fight in the scheme of things, but it got the job of getting rid of him done.

That's the scene where GJ blows on HR fingers when he sees she's cold. It's a cliche move, but works so well here.

Actually one of my favourite scenes was when Ouyang Ke did the toad thing on the Mongolian troops besieging the Jin capital. After the coup and they got settled properly in the Jin palace, Wanyan Honglie tried his best to get a physician to cure his legs, and Ouyang Ke told him it's OK, he has learned that his life is not all about his two legs.

I really liked the conversation between Wanyan Honglie and Ouyang Ke after that scene, when Ouyang Ke said he can sense Wanyan Honglie still cared very much for Yang Kang. And he said he feels Yang Kang was "stupid" not to accept Wanyan Honglie as a father. That was the part which made me feel for these two so-called villains whose characterizations are a lot more 3D in this series and really want Wanyan Honglie and Yang Kang to be happy as father-and-son.
Agree. Also, I felt that OYK was voicing his own hopes of having a father who would care enough for him as WYHL does for YK. Then again, I would find it highly unlikely YK would respond in kind, because WYHL did scheme to kill YK's birth father, inadvertently leading to his mother's death. As much as WYHL cared for YK, if he had the foresight, he should've realized his own machinations towards YK's birth parents were unforgivable. To own another that you have to kill for it; such an intriguing way to write a character.

I think you mean the Quan Zhen battle - which indeed was fab by the way. Hua Shan is HDSD .

I don't miss the official marriage between QLJ and LKY. In the scheme of things and for the specific aims of this adaptation, that scene neither added nor subtracted any meaning.

THANK YOU to everyone for the pics and clips. They make me nostaligic and driven to keeping this thread from ever going to Thread Heaven.

Yes! Greeeaaat to read all recent comments directly related to LOCH2008 even though it's been 4 years since its broadcast. I tend to be late in catching up with popular series, like with QSHF. I was so wanting convos with other fans in the QSHF thread about the 3 Shu sons and their daddy king fighting to marry Fuya in that amusing court scene, hahaha! But everyone has moved on to newer series.

I do think HG & Ariel had much more touching scenes in the last couple of episodes. In the first half, they kept too much of a fun friendship rapport in their onscreen relationship, that's why I thought their romantic chemistry in Fairy in Wonderland was better. There was one scene which stood out for me when Hu Ge was depressed thinking that Hua Zheng was dead...when HR was trying to cheer him up by calling in a big music band to the restaurant. Ariel's hand movements to the music were really funny in there.

Also, there's one thing that struck me though - how come YK/MNC had so much money problems during their travels that they had to do street performances to raise money to pay for their food, board and lodging expenses, while HG/HR didn't have to deal with trying to scrape out a living?

LOL...HG received lots of gold from the Khan and HR looked like she was carrying around a big allowance from her dad.

I have to rewatch LOCH82's Barbara scenes to look out for this one! Actually, it's high time I rewatched LOCH82. I remember looking for LOCH82 on YouTube, then I saw the clip of LSS at Joust For A Spouse scene and got hooked on LOCH08. I haven't caught up with LOCH82 since then, but this thread has reminded me to do so, haha!

It's definitely the costume he wore during the final showdown fight with GJ/HG. I was admiring his handsome face whereas my Mom was admiring his beautiful hands

I think aside from what xiaolong said about the money GJ received from the Khan and HR receiving allowance from daddy, most of the time, they were just on the outskirts, hunting for animals (birds?) and cook/BBQ them I remember one scene where they even slept outside (was it under a tree) and HR was like watching GJ sleep while holding the green bamboo stick

In short, they don't seem to be too picky unlike YK who just relied on MNC to feed him or rent a room for him
