Also, ATV used to make some really good ancient kung fu series. Too bad ATV does not seem to be make more series like this one these days...
I don't think top ATV actors have the intention of taking bad roles when they switch over to TVB. Otherwise, who in their right minds would accept? I'm sure they assumed TVB will treat them well, or at least acceptable. ATV may pay more, but they really suck at marketing their stars. It was simply heartbreaking to see Gilbert demoted to such minor roles. A true waste of talent.

If ATV continues to make awesome kung fu series like in the 80s and even 90s, TVB would be in serious trouble. But with TVB series tanking in quality, so did ATV.

I saw a few episodes of this drama recently from a friend's collection. Strawberry Yeung has really exaggerated acting and crying skills. I winced whenever she cried "seeee hinnng" (martial arts brother) and hugged him.

I saw this series a long time ago and it was pretty good but heard that it did not follow the novel. I personally found her character really annoying, whiny and pathetic. However, I think her character was supposed to be the best looking(hard to imagine since Strawberry Yeung is not that great looking) so she kept getting harassed and raped.

I like the princess the most and heard that in the novel the main character was supposed to end up with her. However, in here they made him end up with Strawberry's character.
Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.

In the novel, almost all girls are beautiful. The princess is also very beautiful. Ching Leun's and Princess's beauty is different. CL's beauty is the innocent pure type. While Princess's beauty is the royalty type, very high up there.

Sadly, I don't think it's available yet. I've seen one Mandarin dub (why on earth did they not have a dual language option) but no Cantonese. It's one of the more sought-after serials by people on this forum.

Anybody interested in the VHS format version?? I've had it for ages but don't find the time to transfer it to DVD...

Anywayzzzzz, as you can see my hometown is in Indonesia, so I guess the air freight will cost even more expensive than if we buy the original ones, assuming there is any LoL.

Ah no the Princess didn't end up with the main guy, he liked his martial sister to the end.

The Princess returned to the palace afterward to help the king her father, Siu Diep went with her.

the two annoying love birds went off together someone...hopefully far far away.

In appearance, I believe all the girls was extremely beautiful, but the main girl was supposedly extremely naive which made her more attractive to guys and made them want to protect her.

Siu Diep in the book was just as naive, maybe even more so, but she traveled with the princess who was very regal and was thus less vulnerable.

The princess was also escorted by a league of servants and had an authoritative aura that cause people to respect 'him' and was also a little wary of 'him'.

Fei Hong didn't appear as much in the novel as this film, thus left almost no impression on me, although Flute girl appeared twice and i remembered her just fine.

I have this series on DVD, but in Vietnamese. If anyone wants to watch it in Chinese, go to so.tudou.com then search for the Chinese name, i saw there. very bad quality though.
Currently in love with Bae Suzy...for superficial reasons.

Thanks for the link! I wonder why they'd have it in Region 1 for the Americans, and yet not have English subtitles. There must be more Canto-speaking unamericanised Chinese in America than I thought! =)

Again like another person has mentioned, I had high hopes for this series considering it was an early 90's production by ATV. For the overall it was alright but what dissapointed me the most was the ridiculous explosion "fighting scenes" and of course, the lame ending. I'm glad the main lead's actually end up together because they're such a prefect match. One's boring, naive and childish while the other is far from charming, unappreciative, and thoughtless. Could someone please enlighten me? What were the main aspects of this version that didn't follow the novel? Thanks in advance!

do u happen to have this in khmer? most of the ones i fine are vhs rip to dvd. is there any real dvd like the condor hero trilogy, etc most of tvb or atv old series seems to be real dvd not vhs rips.

the only thing i actually dislike about this movie was the main guy, he didn't look handsome enough. his role was ling hu chong type, same characteristic n everything, but he didn't have that look. eric wan should've replaced him. he n that flute girl kept me watching the series, only if he had more fights n progress besides the main guy.

I say he's unappreciative because of the ladies that have fallen in love with him. He doesn't whorship and treasure the good feelings they have for him even despite that he's only in love with Strawberry's character. Goodness if they casted a better looking lead it would be acceptable but come on!

Mido-Ban, yes I do have this series in Khmer as well as the Condor Trilogy. However majority of the newers series I have are VHS converted. For some of the 80's series, there are the retail dvd versions where they're not converted from VHS to DVD and they're available in Khmer & Vietnamese language. I believe you can purchase them from a website online. As for ATV, the only one that I know is available in retail version or at least "real dvds" is Taichi Master with Alex Man.
