In the book the castration threat is much more, well, threatening. She takes his clothes off and has a knife ready. He's also hanging from a rafter instead of sitting on the floor, then she dumps him on a table.
There's also a really cute scene after she brings in Yingying where they both look at each other and communicate by winking because she's rendered both of them mute. But that would have been really difficult to do for the tv show, not to mention looking a bit silly.
