They might want older actors since they're bound to have more experience.

And if the Yuen Woo Ping's movie is anything like the Swordsman movies (Jet Li), I might be scared even more. Jay Chou, Brigitte Lin...nah.

so there planning to make a movie or another series? i won't mind a series since the last one was in 2001. but having takashi as lhc is wrong since he can't fight that well from the movie i've seen him played in, they should use someone that have experience in martial arts.

zhou xun shouldn't be the main lead, shes pretty but she isn't beautiful or have that cunning intelligent evil look if you know what i mean. she could play some other girl.

but seriously i won't mind another series of state of divinity, but please let some other co make it, sorta tired of zjz production after this one. there was too much useless dialogue, bad fight scenes, bad use of cgi, check hsds 09. out of all zjz production this is only one i like.

Chill! HSDS09 is the last Jin Yong novel that ZJZ will adapt, he said he's done with JY works^^

The new XAJH/Swordsman movie would be produced and directed by Yuen Wo Ping, the director of the upcoming movie, True Legend.

Kaneshiro Takeshi has a good comical acting, at least that's what I see in his past Japanese comedy drama, Golden Bowl and his recent Japanese comedy-adventure movie, K20. I think he'd pull off Linghu Chong character just great.

RYY image in my head is too much Xu Qing, I'm not sure if I'd be able to accept another portrayal by another actress, even if its Zhou Xun, my #1 fave Chinese actress XD

I imagine Zhou Xun would make a decent Yue Lingshan. Not that I see it happening - in movies she's in, she's almost always the leading lady.

...Or not. The thought of Jay Chou as Dongfang Bubai scares me.

Anyway. Which fight scenes in XAJH 2001 are your favorites? Mine include:

Ren Yingying vs Zuo Lengchan in the bamboo forest.

Lin Pingzhi vs Yu Canghai and Mo Gaofeng. To me this is one of the messiest fights in the series.

All the fights in episode 40.

Linghu Chong blinding the men in black in the rain.

Linghu Chong and Ren Yingying vs Qingcheng sect + Cheng Buyou + blinded men.

The fights at Shaolin (Fangzheng, Ren Woxing, Zuo Lengchan, Yue Buqun, Linghu Chong).

Linghu Chong vs Ren Yingying at the stable.

And several more fights I'm probably forgetting right now.

Maybe I should re-watch the series again, just to see the fights.
Yes I loved most of those. I liked another one that you have not mentioned in your list. Loved the fight sequence between Yue Buqun and Zuo Lengchan where YB shows his true femine colors and kills ZL with needles.

The fight scenes are certainly the highlight of the series. I've seen people complain about Li Yapeng, about Xu Qing (!), about the pacing, and so on, but never about the fight scenes.

Zuo Lengchan being finished off with the needles is one of the changes I like, because IMO having him live on and continue to control Lao Denuo would drag the pace down.

Actually I like many of the changes. Although, since Xiang Wentian ends up being one-armed and probably sustains mortal injuries as well, does he still end up being the Sun-Moon Sect leader? Just curious.

Lin Pingzhi going missing on the wedding night and making his appearance at the Songshan meeting later actually makes more sense than him hanging around in Huashan, where Yue Buqun can discover his secret any time.

The changes I have mixed feelings about: Ren Yingying listening to Lin Pingzhi and Yue Lingshan's conversation, which ends in Yue Lingshan asking Lin Pingzhi to make love to her. In the novel the conversation happens in a cart which stops in the middle of the road. In the series it's in their room at an inn. To me, when you eavesdrop on a married couple who are inside a bedroom, hearing what you shouldn't is kind of a very obvious risk. Not to mention that Ren Yingying and Linghu Chong actually bother to climb up to the ceiling to do it.

But Tian Boguang getting killed - what's up with that? Do they want to add extra angst or something?

You're not even old enough to be my little sister!" Then again, in the series she appears a lot earlier, so they have to change/add scenes related to her.
You're right, that scene is a lot angrier than in the book, but since they met as enemies before that (in the tv series, I mean) it makes more sense for LHC to be angry. In the book he's never even heard of the "sacred lady" before he meets RYY. And the tv version of LHC is in general a lot less easygoing than the literary version.

His performance here and in LoCH 2008 convince me that he's a very good actor. I hope he'll get a role where the character has a happy ending, e.g. Chu Liuxiang, because he reminds me of a young Adam Cheng.
Li Jie is a very impressive actor. I really admired him after seeing him in this series.

Being as fond of this series as I am, I'm not sure how I'd feel about another version. But I do really like Takeshi Kaneshiro, so if he were to be cast I'd be much happier about it. I know it's just a rumor right now, but hey, why not speculate?

hm, i dont know...i really like this version, so i dont know if doing a remake now would spoil my good impression of XAJH, especially if this remake turns out bad.
and while i don't dislike takeshi, i just dont know if i can take him as LHC just because li ya peng's LHC is still so deeply in my head. same thing with the other rumored casts, especially jay chow as dong fang bu bai. what's with that??

You don't say I think Li Yapeng's rather sober performance is mostly due to the script, and his having a naturally serious face. I'm not saying a Linghu Chong actor should look like a clown, just that he should be more relaxed-looking.

We know Jay can mostly (only?) act as himself, so...yeah, looking forward to what's going to happen if this rumored cast turns out to be true Personally, I find Mao Wentao's performance in XAJH 2001 nothing short of amazing - smooth, not exaggerated, and it bespeaks years of experience.

No, I mean as Dongfang Bubai in XAJH 2001.
And I wrote her name incorrectly: Mao Weitao.

Ok have read the thread on the new remake of Swordsman 2012 and the casting. The guys are all young and handsome (even those who were supposed to be over 50s) and seems like a made-for teens series. The female case is disappointing in looks. Seems deliberate so as not to outshine the guys. Can say I don't like this version even tho' I will still watch it as I am a big fan of wu xia piang.

Regardless of the nay sayers, I still consider the 2001 ZJZ Swordsman to be the best wuxia tv series ever produced. It's truly epic in casting, acting, sets, choreography, sceneries, theme songs, pictography. Seems at times ZJZ was trying to imitate Yimou with sudden burst of colours. I am rewatching this series as it was originally played on China tv on my China made internet tv streaming box and I can see parts edited out of the commercial vcd/dvd sets. Very addictive. I like the slower pace of ZJZ's version and loved Xu Qing as RYY. Thumbs up once again for this version, King of kings.

^ i am inclined to agree! i feel like all the wuxia dramas being made nowadays (not that i dont like them, especially the tang ren ones, which i watch and adore because of all the attractive people, but still ) focus so much on getting attractive people that they lose the quality that made series such as this XAJH such amazing productions. i mean, i get that the actors have to be good looking to attract more viewers and such, but everything about this version of XAJH - from the actors to the choreography to the shooting style - was just so perfect! i think i'm gonna start rewatching this again because all the talk about the new one made me miss this one

One part at beginning around Chapter 4 where LHC and the young sect sister were at second inn to intercept the Cheng Chen people who have caught LPZ and his parents and my version of the vcd did not have this segment but skipped straight to where LHC was fighting the head of the Cheng Chen sect.

Will try to copy the link as this is one of those media boxes that takes links all over to compile into categories.

I can't read Chinese, so I can't make sense of that page. Do you have a direct link to the show? I love the series and I really want to see it in its original form.

    Thanks in advance.

Haha same here I can't read Chinese either. That link was what my tv internet streaming box said they are picking up the XAJH stream from. I went there with my pc and it's all links in Chinese. So can't help you here unless someone reading this thread and can read Chinese can help you out.
