    Perform thread necromancy!!

I bought this series from an Amazon seller after reading the book and seeing some clips on Youtube. Aside from the annoying sub-heading Ren Ying Ying mentions (which I agree is really stupid), I'm finding it a great series. I can hardly persuade myself to turn it off and go to bed. I've only watched half of it so far, but at the rate I'm going I'll finish it in another week.

I liked Li Yapeng as Guo Jing in LOCH '03, but Linghu Chong gives him much more to do, even though LHC does spend half the time being wounded. I have come to really, really like Li Yapeng as a result of his performance as Linghu Chong.

Almost all of the other casting is good, too. The only actor I haven't liked so far is the guy playing Yu Canghai - he's just a bit too hammy. Tian Boguang wasn't exactly what I expected - I thought he'd be younger and more handsome - but I already liked that actor and I like the way he played the character. The actor playing Yue Buqun has a perfect gravity and grace, and the actress portraying his wife is perfectly matched to him. The guy playing Lin Pingzhi looks just the way I imagined him when I read the book.

I think this series is in danger of superseding ROCH '06 as my favorite. All the sad parts where Linghu Chong's life gets more and more miserable make me cry, and the romance between him and Ying Ying is really charming. I don't even mind the changes to the story.

Plus, the music is just awesome. I wish I could get a CD of it. I love the opening and closing credit themes, Ying Ying's theme, and the Xiao Ao Jiang Hu tune.

im glad you like it so far! gosh, i LOVE this series too. its one of my favorites (if not THE favorite) for sure. and i think li yapeng as ling huchong is much better than him in loch. but that maybe because the guy that dubbed his voice did it really well. i didnt like his real voice (was it his voice) in loch 03. but he and yingying make a great couple. its really cute!

I'm definitely impressed with Li Yapeng. I thought he was okay as Guo Jing, but he's just great as Linghu Chong. I think both voices may really be him - he's just talking in a really low register as Guo Jing. But I don't know for certain.

It's so difficult when some people are dubbed and others aren't. I had to laugh when I noticed at one point that the actor playing Tian Boguang had dubbed something for another minor character.

My husband was finding it a little confusing in the beginning, but that's because there was so much exposition about the Five Mountains Alliance, and he has a hard time remembering names even when they're not Chinese names that are unfamiliar to him.

I adored the scenes in episode 12 or 13 when LHC was learning to play the qin from RYY and thought she was an old lady. It's so sweet and charming.

But the other night I watched the episode (I think it's episode 20) after he was expelled from Huashan Sect and was accosted by some people who didn't believe he was Linghu Chong. He started crying and laughing at the same time - that was so painful to watch, not because it was badly done but because it was just sad to see a character I like so much in such dire straits.

I spent a while looking around on Baidu for the music, but all I can find is the closing theme. It's hard when I can't read Chinese. I just have to click on things mostly at random.

LYP and XQ do have good chemistry.

The post-expulsion scene is just after he's left Shaolin and is wandering around by himself. He overhears some people talking about him and saying they want to fight him. I'm pretty sure it's in episode 20.

I'm hoping to find the opening and closing themes, the 'Xiao Ao Jiang Hu' tune, and Ying Ying's theme. I ran across someone's page on Tripod that looks like it might have music files, but I'll have to look into it more when I'm not at work. Everything I found on Baidu was the closing theme - or at least, what I know as the closing theme from the US DVD release.

I wish I could find more photos, too. My screensaver is a slideshow of photos from all my favorite shows. XAJH needs more representation. My google image search didn't net me much.

It's just difficult for me since I don't know what anything says. It's going to take me forever to learn to read enough Chinese to recognize anything.

I spent a while searching there last night for MP3 files and finally got hold of a file of the end credit theme. But I couldn't find any of the other songs. All the sites that looked promising had broken links.

I also discovered that there must have been a soundtrack/OST CD at one time, but it seems to be out of print.

Oh, and after watching another episode of XAJH last night, I threw in an episode of LOCH03. I realized that LYP's voice doesn't really sound all that different between the two shows - it's just the speech pattern that's different. So unless he was dubbed by the same guy for both series, I think that must be his real voice. I may go look on YouTube for an interview or something to see if I can get more confirmation of what he sounds like in real life.

I thought it was much deeper too, but when I listened last night it really didn't sound much different. I was actually surprised. I expected it to turn out that he was dubbed by somebody else in LOCH.

Or he was dubbed in both. But the voices sounded similar enough to me that that seems unlikely.

The only non-LOCH clip I could find on Youtube was LYP having a disagreement with some paparazzi. Unfortunately the sound was bad and he didn't say much anyway.

I have to say, the dubbing is really good on XAJH. Especially on LYP. The lip movements and dialogue match perfectly most of the time, so it hardly seems dubbed. And the sound of the other vocal effects, like laughing or crying, is much better than in some other series. I'm still a fan of ROCH 06, but some of HXM's dubbing sounds pretty unrealistic, especially the crying scenes.

I've come to be really fond of LYP for this reason. He's just a better actor. That's even made him seem more physically attractive to me. I keep wishing he'd have to take off his shirt like HXM did in ROCH.

I finished the series last night and early morning. It was a darn good series even though the final death toll included someone I hoped would survive. Always good to see Ba Yin in a series.

Was it anyone who didn't die in the book?

I wish I had the time to mainline it like that. I'd love to just spend hours watching it. But I'm watching it with my husband and he usually only wants to see an episode or two each night - although this week he's been getting more excited about it and wanting to watch more.
