Default HSDS: Where were the other Shaolin monks when the Ming Cult visited?

When the Ming Cult visited the Shaolin Temple shortly after the Battle of Gwong Ming Peak and the appointment of Cheung Mo Gei has the new Cult Leader, it found that Shaolin was abandoned and had been vandalized by unknown entities (Chiu Mun's mercenaries) in the cult's name. But why was Shaolin abandoned? Not all of the Shaolin monks went on the mission to assault Gwong Ming Peak, and subsequently, not all of them were kidnapped by Chiu Mun's people. What's even stranger is that a little later, there were monks at Shaolin again (this was while the Chief Abbot and Hung Tze were still Chiu Mun's prisoners). Where did the Shaolin monks disappear to when the Ming Cult came visiting?

Were they not slain / kidnapped buy Zhao Min's lackeys? There was supposed to have been a big battle there. Perhaps some also fled and later returned. Or the other franchises repopulated it.

Not the ones who didn't go on the Gwong Ming Peak expedition. Among those who stayed behind were Yeun Yip. He was nowhere to be seen when the Ming Cult visited, but later turned up and received Yeun Jen (Sing Kwun) when the latter returned and told his fabricated tale about Chief Abbot Hung Wan and the others perishing at the Ming Cult's hands during the Battle of Gwong Ming Peak.

Perhaps. Oddly, the Ming Cult did not find any corpses of slain Shaolin monks at the temple. There was no evidence of a battle, just vandalism. The temple was trashed, but it didn't seem like anybody had been killed there.

They were defeated by Zhaomin's lackies and taken. ZWJ rescued the lot at ZM's place by the tower.

There were signs of a huge deadly battle - hence the forum debate about footprints.

    Which adaption missed that?

HSDS '86. Not only were there no dead bodies at the temple, but monks had begun occupying it again *before* Chief Abbot Hung Wan, etc., were liberated by Cheung Mo Gei and the Ming Cult. It makes you wonder where those particular monks were when Chiu Mun's people vandalized the temple.

Where were the three 'du'(?) generation monks? The old monks that later watched over Tse Tsun, where were they when this happened to Shaolin? Surely they would have come out of/stop meditation or whatever if their temple was getting trashed?

Perhaps some of them were out? Like the first appearance of Xuzhu in the most recent DGSD adaption.

Also, some of them could be with the three "du" generation monks... IMO

The Dao generation monks did not usually live at the temple. They were usually ensconced in a remote, isolated location and only returned to the temple at Chief Abbot Hung Wan's request to guard over Tse Tsun.

Maybe they were out looking for the head abbots like the other students of E Mei, who wasn't at Brightness Peak was looking for MieJue Shitai.

It is not likely that they would have left the monastery empty though.

As for the Du generation monks, if the attacking force found them, i think they might have to retreat! Sing Kwun would likely have told them to avoid those 3.
