Default The 4 beauties of China

Who in your opinion among the female celebrities we know would be beautiful enough to be considered as the 'current' 4 great beauties of China i.e. Diao Chan, Xi shi, Wang Zhao Jun and Yang Gui Fei? This extends to all female celebrities and not just the few popular young actresses from China...can be from Hong knong etc....

I always thought of GYY as Xi Shi Shui Ling and Sun Fei Fei as well. I can't really think of any HK actresses at the moment apart from Maggie Cheung Man Yu and Joey Wong. True there are tons of beautiful chinese actresses but these few actresses are really classic beauties imo and have so much poise and elegance.

    1. Crystal Liu Yifei
    2. Eva Huang Shengyi
    3. Zhang Ziyi

I can choose only 3. Many actresses are also beautiful but they don't have "the Great Chinese Beauty" look. Some are mixed with European look or something else. These 3 beauties are the real Chinese beauties in my opinion.

I reckon no one here could look like XI Shi, wasn't Xi shi suppose to be "fat" ... in other words, volumptuous? I see only skins and bones here these days

That's Yang Gui Fei Sugar BTW current adaptations of Xi Shi stars Sonija Kwok and Ady An Yixuan..both who though pretty, don't really suit the character..still vote for GYY And YM did a portrayal of Wang Zhaojun not long ago. Both Anne Heung and FBB acted as Yang Guifei before but were not 'plump' enough for the role imo.

Correction : Yang Gui Fei, not one volumptuous enough

Sonnija, hmm she doesn't look ancient enough. She is a part british.. and it doesn't make her classic looking enough. Ady, looks relatively modern

If Diao Chan, Xi Shi, Yang Guifei, Wang Zhaojun were still alive, I don't think people nowadays see them pretty.

Quite right! Some people say beauties in the past may not be beauties to us now. Cleopatra was hailed as a beauty, able to seduce men but she turned out to be quite ugly by modern standards when they found her fossils.

True, beauty standards are always changing.. like fashion statements. I mean, .Marilyn Monroe was a size 14 and was considered a beauty... Stars today can't seem to go over size 2

Marilyn Monroe was a SIZE 14?? *shock* Anyway, if you look at the measurements of some stars, they're mostly size 0. Then again, there's vanity sizing nowadays.

In my opinion, I don't think a Chinese beauty has to look completely like the standard of a Chinese beauty...who has the right to judge a standard of beauty? So if a Chinese actress looks a little more Western but is still stunning, then they can't be considered a Chinese beauty? I think as long as they are biologically Chinese, they could qualify as a Chinese beauty...

    Now...my four beauties:
    1. Shui Ling
    2. Weng Meiling (aka Huang Rong from LOCH)
    3. Jia Jingwen (okay, so she's Taiwanese, but whatever)
    4. Yang Mi

I agree. Actresses in the past were more curvaceous and healthy looking. Wasn't Lady Yang a plump woman as well? I read somewhere in history that she was quite big in size. Don't know if that is true or not. Need to confirm with a specialist.

Anyway, actreses today are anorexic looking. Most of the time, I see skin and bones. No curves. The camera adds around 10 lbs, so if they are skinny on tv, what would they look like in real life? *shudders*

many actresses are mix so i don't think i can consider them true china beauties...
i think SHui ling would be on top of my list for a classic chinese beauty....

while Ady An and others rather look very modern and beautiful..
