seems like he may be inferior to them in skills but he's more resourceful and quicker to think under the right circumstances. maybe he's inferior to yan qi as i think yan's martial arts level is above guo and she is as equally intelligent as him. however, i think yan is inferior to wang and lin.

although, i think guo'll be able to outsmart wang and lin and hence defeat them, i don't think yan can defeat wang and lin even with her wit...

    guo> wang/lin
    yan<wang/lin

logically, guo>yan, but i just can't see that. thus, guo< or = yan

    anyone care to help out?

he hasn't had the same level of training in high level martial arts as the rest but he has talent and trained himself to a respectable level. he is sort of like ah-fei where he broke through his limitations through hard work and preseverance.

he never had high level training like the rest. his parents engaged about six martial arts teachers for him but they were low class figures. he noticed their martial arts were lacking after learning them and so poundered and practised till he had improved the flaw in his skill. he also had good ability to learn martial arts because he learned the move from wang dong in a few minutes to catch gold darts.

Digging up this old thread instead of posting a new one.

After re-reading Happy Heroes, I am inclined to think of Guo Dalu like a mix of Xiao Feng and post DG9J Linghu Chong.

Bit of XF because he takes base stuff and outperforms with it. Bit of DG9J Linghu Chong because the way Gu Long describes his attacks is that he comes up with just the surprise move designed to break the opponent's stance. His drinking ability? Somewhere between XF and LHC too!

In fact, GL probably did better fight descriptions than Jin Yong with DG9J in this respect.

Instead of just - SURPRISING POSITION, opponent got owned! GL went into reasonable detail (that doesnt defy inter-spatial perception), e.g.

    1. Against Mei Rujia, Guo closed in fast with a suicide move so that the long sword didnt have space to swing.
    2. Against the black 'Nangong Chou' swordsman, he knew how the sword would be drawn and specifically used a scabbard to intercept.

Much better than, he struck out in a surprising position and KO!
Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!
