Actually, both transitions are equally annoying to me.

I think there is some natural talent involved with acting as well---some people just can't act. I know I could never do it, and I bet lots of other people can't either. It's one of the arts, just like music, visual arts, etc.

Singers--> Actors is sometimes worse in my opinion, just because it ruins the entire production. At least with singing, you can ignore that one person's album, but if some singer gets promoted into a juicy role of a movie that originally had a good plot, now you can't watch it due to their shitty acting whereas the movie itself might not have been so bad.

i don't think it's just chinese actors/actresses...like Hilary Duff (whose voice is pretty annoying)...but I don't really care because if they can sing then they have my support.

anyway I can think of few reasons why they want to become this or that...

    1. more fame
    2. more profit
    3. something they like and want to give it a try
    4. maybe that's what they wanted to do but ended up doing something else first
    5. try something else to see which one they're better at

i don't think we should limit ourselves to one thing.

Vicki Zhao was pretty bad at singing in the beginning, now she is getting much better. I agree that singer to actor is not as smooth a road. Also music today is easier to sing and can easily be tweaked, so actor and actresses are willing to give it a try. We also forgot Ariel Lin...she was going to come out with an album but then after complaints that she was off key during her performance on YLBFB, she is changing her mind. She is one of the better actress singers.

to be fair, many of the actors/actresses named began their singing careers at the roughly same time as their acting careers. or began singing when their acting careers had not taken off. maybe they were just trying both out to see which they would be successful in. just a little insurance policy.

and tvb is just trying to save money by having their stars sing. having "real" singers sing the themes was adding up to big bucks. plus, it also promoted the singers' albums with no advantage to tvb. by having their actors sing, tvb saves money, and it helps sell soundtracks, opening up another revenue source for them.

Yep, as John Travolta, Bruce Willis, and David Hasselhoff (among others) have proven over the years.

I find it kind of annoying as well... My brother used to always tell me that the actors who become singers only get their albums sold because the fans that buy those albums are fans that already like them as actors. At first, I didn't really agree but now I can see that it is really true. I personally would never buy an album of a singer just because I like their acting since those are 2 different categories. I think it is meaningless to buy everything that is related to their idol whether it is good or bad.

I think Hu Ge and Wallace Huo can both sing really well. I like their acting and singing. I once read that Wallace said singing was actually his first chioce, but he happened to get into acting first.I am not sure about Wallace, but Hu Ge started to sing and act at about the same time. Benny Chan and Raymond are pretty good too.

Even though I like Xiao Ming as an actor, I must say his singing is not good at all... I am fair when I judge stars.. Just because I like them for their acting doesn't mean that i have to like their singing.

Takeshi has been singing for a long long time. I think he started out as a singer, but am not 100% sure. I have one of his earliest albums which was released back in 1994. It has the song he sung for the movie School Days.

I have heard Ruby Lin sing and gosh it is among the worst that I have ever heard. I think she only gets albums sold because of her die hard fans....Vicki isn't the best singer either, but is way better...

Ruby is pretty terrible in the singing department... Vicki's pretty average, but good compared to a lot of the actress/singers. Most of Ruby's songs her voice pretty much generated or morphed... doesn't sound anything like her, and it shows when she sings on stage.

Wallace Huo, i have heard sing, but i thought his voice was editted a lot too... didn't sound much like him at all. But then again, speaking and singing are two different things. He sounded pretty bad live though...

Yea, I have heard Ruby sing on her CDs and it is already bad and is really bad live... Vicki is way better than a lot of the actor turned singers these days.

It is also true that a lot of singers sound good on their albums since they have a lot of help from the good sound equipment in the studio and stuff. However, when they sing live it is a different story.... I think Wallace's voice is nice on CD, but not sure about in real life since i haven't heard him sing or speak in real life yet. I have heard Hu Ge's real voice when he spoke, so I think he has a nice speaking voice.

I think it could be simply coz a singing career is physically less demanding than acting... which is understandable.

I don't really mind singers becoming actors because acting is something that you can better yet as you practice, but in singing you need a natural good voice and if you don't have it don't try to sing.
u can improve singing - ever watch American Idol? sumtime they go "zero to hero".

Also I can't remember where I heard/read this news but Vicki Zhao improve her singing by smoking , see - improving but I'm not sure how dat will help tho

I'm currently watching TVB's A Step into the Past, and Louis sang the theme song, and I must say Louis Koo is a pretty bad singer also. It pissed me off seeing these artist's companies trying to earn money of us normal people and fans by promoting these un-talented "singers".

And I must say even though I'm a huge huge fan of Alec Su ( I like his looks and acting ), I must admit his singing suck, even though he started out as a singer. I bought one of his albums, thinking it would be really good, but it really disappointed me because his voice is well not good at all. On the contrary, I think his fellow Little Tigers member Julian Chen and Nicky Wu are so much better than him in term of singing.

It is true that you can improve in your singing, but I think in order to be really good, you have to be born with a good voice.

I think Han Xue has a nice voice on CD, but not sure about live since i haven't heard her sing live yet. She actually just released her 2nd album a couple of months ago. It is true that some people don't sound that great live, but sound better on CD. However, if you are born with a good voice, you just need to train it better and can sing better live....

About Wallace Huo, he is still new to singing so I think he will get a lot better as time goes by.... However, I think he naturally has a good voice....But lacks experience in terms of singing.

Hmm, Vicki's singing and talking voice really annoys me. It sounds really kiddish, but not really in a high-pitched tone--more of an immature voice I would say. And she ruined the "Hao Ren Hao Meng" song, which was my favourite song.

Yeah Ruby isn't great at singing, and her voice sometimes sounds a bit like she has a sore throat/cold, but at least she dropped it right? I don't mind if actors/actresses now ACCEPT that they suck and don't put the audience through ordeals anymore. Or they go and do some major training/practice and come out later w/ MUCH improved voices/singing abilities.

Alec's voice is HORRIBLE--weird since his talking voice isn't THAT bad. I think he tries too hard to make the song all emotional and it ends up backfiring.

Jimmy has an ok voice, but his music is declining big time. At least his own 80s music was "fun" and happy. Now, his new music is filled w/ either utter sappiness/whining or rap-wannabe.

You want more bad singers? Nicholas Tse and Edison Chen, more so the latter. Nicholas Tse has other musical abilities, so I'll give him credit for that, but his voice isn't all that great either. Edison--need I say more?

I think VIcki has a cute voice, but it does sound kind of too childish sometimes. But I think it sounds sweet too. That is my opinion though...

I totally agree about RUby. Thank goodness she stopped singing....

I don't think Alec has a horrible voice. I think his voice is nice. But once again it is all down to a matter of opinion.

Jimmy didn't sing in the 80s, you mean the 90s right?? I don't think his music is going downhill. I do admit that I don't really like his catchy songs that much, but his slow are still really nice. I have all of his albums, so I can see how much he has grown and improved over the years....

I haven't heard Edison Chen sing yet so I can't comment, but Nicholas Tse isn't bad...

Hey Trinie! How's it going? Hope everything is fine with you

I have never been fond of Nic as an actor. I think he acts fairly decent, but I don't really like the guy. But for some reason, I find his voice quite nice...

Yup, Louis sure does not have the voice of a singer. I guess that was way he gave up after poor album sales. It is sad to see artists trying to milk as much money from fans as possible. I think they are just trying to survive in the dog eat dot entertainment industry. There are just too many young, pretty/handsome actors(es)/singers popping up. It's hard to compete and really stand out.
