The record also gave it a rating of 2 stars since it didn't contain that many humor scenes. But either way I will find myself watching it since the ratings movies get are usually from old man and women who don't like action and just like to sit down.
If you started, you must finished.

This movie was awesome. it was very entertaining with lots of action, special effects, humour and did i say action? thought the jokes were light - must have been stoned

the plotline was good - although Jack Sparrow's plight was the central focus, Will and Elizabeth had equal weighting and contributed to the flow and blend of the movie.

So-so movie. Plot was kinda weak; things just...'happened'. No explanation; movie was a whole two hours of disney-like 'coincidences'. Some battle scenes, while interesting, were way too contrived. And WTF was with Elizabeth towards the end?

    maybe you're making up inferences

what Tei said pretty much sums up what many critics have said, and what i personally would have expected.

bleh can't believe u want to join in when you haven't seen the movie. people have told you before - don't judge a movie until you've seen it. Reviews are only guidelines and subjective of the reviewer.
also i wouldn't take opinions of Tei as gospel when he clearly doesn't understand the 'weak' plot or the so called things just 'happened' in the movie. i don't expect him to like the movie i like - but at least restrain his negative comments when clearly he has no idea what happened in the movie.

the reason Elizabeth handcuffed Jack to the mast at the end is because the Kraken was after Jack only - so by keeping Jack on the ship, the rest can escape.

earlier in the movie, Jack and Elizabeth had a conversation where Jack told Liz that shes a pirate at heart, she yearns to be free and make selfish choices. while Liz assessed Jack that hes a kind and honourable man despite his pirate demeanour......

....and what do you know - they are both right with their assessement of each other. Jack couldn't abandon his crew and friends and returned to the ship to save them. Elizabeth showed her selfish nature and prevented Jack from escaping in the longboat with them.

When Jack died, Elizabeth felt remorseful and guilty in the closing scene.

You should see it. Yes, it's not a Oscar type movie but it has some very funny scenes and very enjoyable 2.5 hrs.
The only complaint is with the "no ending" of the movie. Silly Disney.

Lol, NetDriftr, your comments crack me up. The plot was weak and a lot of scenes were used mainly just for the sensation. It's pretty easy to understand what happened in the movie; just not everyone can think beyond the eyecandy and fight scenes to analyze whether the story had any merit or novelty.
There's clearly no need to get defensive. 'Sides, the plot was okay, in that you could get one procession from the next, but it was weak, regardless, much like many other blockbuster movies. Whatever.
What else do you expect out of a trilogy that's based completely on a Disneyland theme ride?

And with Elizabeth, I was referring to the compass thing, and her sudden change of heart - you can't ignore that, keira knightley made it so obvious with her facial expressions. Regardless of what she did at the end with the mast, you can clearly see her confusion at her change of heart and her desire - it was there, and that was what I was frustrated about. And that psycho-analytic conversation you made reference to was only more contrived, because of the sudden 'miraculous' understanding between two characters that appeared out of nowhere and a weak ploy by the scriptwriters to justify this sudden develop by screaming 'look look, they are so alike there might/should/maybe be something more!"

WhaTEVER "they" said, anyway the whole public accept it, its open with 54.9 million on friday, the biggest ever in box office history defeating Ep III 50 million record. By comparision, Superman Returns open on Tuesday night and only can collect around 45 million for the 3 days (wednesday to friday) and only manage to collect 80 million for wednesday to sunday ticket sales. POTCII is estimated to collect around 135 - 145 million for the friday to sunday and will crush previous 4 years record of Spider-Man with 114 million friday to sunday opening. POTCII should arrive at the 2nd Century at the end its first week opening.

Go watch this movies, it is a very fun ride and just ignore any lame wannabe critic or people who cannot enjoy himself at the movies and much better in nitpicking. This is the Blockbuster of 2006 and the most fun movie this summer.

If you cannot enjoy a fun movie like POTCII, go to the blockbuster and rent Brokeback Mountain instead. At least its an Oscar winner and should be more fun and enjoyable for any serious movie critic...

Thats what I meant by no ending. It should like LOTR at least and have quasi endings for each part.
Still, It is the best of the Summer movies so far in my opinion.

This was a great movie, but not the greatest. There were defiantly some great eye candy, and a lot of humor. It was a defiant let down that there was no ending after 2.5 hours, but that’s what you get with all the trilogies now a days.

The best review I have seen for this movie was on the askaninja web site (I actually originally heard in on NPR of all places). Sure with the beef between ninjas and pirates, it’s not a flattering (or fair) review, but it is just as funny as most everything in dead man’s chest.

Disney found another $14.2M worth of ticket treasure for its mega blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest on Wednesday, its sixth day of release, to lift its total to a towering $183.7M. Off only 10% from its Tuesday tally of $15.7M, the Johnny Depp adventure has already become the fifth largest hit of 2006 in less than a week of play. On Saturday, Pirates should surpass X-Men: The Last Stand to become the year's biggest box office winner in a mere nine days of release.

Dead Man's Chest also set a new record for the best six-day start of any film edging out the $182.7M that Star Wars Episode III collected over its first six days last May. Spider-Man 2 ranks close behind with $180.1M from the summer of 2004. Both of those blockbusters went on to gross more than $370M domestically. In only six days, Chest has already grossed 60% of the $305.4M that the first Pirates film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, made in its entire six-month domestic run.

u mean jonny depp the gay pirates is a sexy beast!?!?

i watch the movie yesterday, just remember thinking "man this movie is REALLY LONG!!" it wasnt like bad or anything, just wasnt all that funny. the plot was kinda confusion, especially w/ will turner's dad. i think the first movie was so good becuz depp's character was so original, now its just him running around like a girl, which is getting annoying.

I just watched this yesterday. Its enjoyable. Not as enjoyable as the first, but still enjoyable, and perhaps, more drama. Humourous though, at some scenes, like the part when he was running with stick tied to him. I think Davy Jones and his crew's... er skin? were done really nicely. Looks real to me, and the Kraken.. wow.

and, I don't think we can still say this movie has a weak plot. Its a sequel and a prequel to another sequel. So I'd say, and think that we'll have to watch At World's End first and then combine 2 & 3 together and only see whether they have a good plot.

It is otherwise, imo, a really good sequel, and I enjoyed it, so I think its a great movie.
