Yes, there is, and I was going to merge it with this one, but there's a difference (and it's not just the poll). That one was about greatest hero in general, but this thread seems to be concerned only in comparing four specific heroes: Kiu Fung, Gwok Jing, Yeung Gor, and Ling Wu Chung. There's no option on this poll for the remaining Jin Yong heroes, so I assume that for this discussion, they are irrelevant.

    So...GuoJing!

agreed! he is more strict on the sense of honor/fairness (even if he does stupid things for it)...but still.

anywayz, yang guo & xiao feng i can see how they can be heroic...but LHC?? where does he come from?

although, i guess it also depend on the definition of "heroic", huh?

XF and GJ were at the opposite sitution of the other. both grew up in a nation that went to war with their own. guo jing defend his nation against the nation he's indebted too. XF stood between his nation and the nation he's indebted too.
XF killed himself beause through he did a great deed, he betrayed his nation and became a traitor in the end. guo jing died defending his nation, as a betrayer of the nation he was indebted too. yet both were heros. how to judge.

XF sacrifice was heroic, but GJ long time committment XianYang is imo much harder. So I go for GJ.

in a way, GJ's death and XiangYang's fall represents the fall of the Song. On the other hand, XF's death doesn't has such a big impact.

His death might not be an impact but he forced his country not to invade Song....

Which I believe, if Song was invaded then, they would have fallen......

I think that is more essential than GJ's effort because XiangYang's fall was bound to happen, the only thing that matters is how long it will take...

if Xiang Yang's fall was bound to happen, wouldn't it be considered even more heroic for Guo Jing to stay protecting them?

Wasn't debating on that. Was rather arguing with whsie who had more impact

I think GJ is more dogmatic than XF. XF would flee JY Manor but if it was GJ, he certainly wouldn't....

I don't really think thats bravery but who takes concern of his own life less? I will have to give that one to GJ....

Guo Jing is it, he discarded his family to serve the country. all the other character were really into dealing with their personal problems at some point (or in Yang guo's case he'll go the distance to save his girl, regardless of what the result is).

    What is with your agenda?

GJ didn't discard his family. His family agreed with him and stood by him.

ok, fine, his family was with him supporting him. but did he support his family? no doubt he loves them, but love and support are 2 different things. Fact of the matter he put his country above his family (u can't argue there)... so that's what makes him more heroic than the other char... nothing is wrong with my agenda, that's how his character is portrait. it's been shown that if both his country and his family are in jeperdy, his decision wouldda been to sacrisfy his family to protect the country. If it was the other characters, like Yang guo it'll probably be the opposite...

I agree. The old saying is that you always put your country first then your faimly, teacher, etc.
