Default Yip Goo Hung, Yip Sheut, Yip Ling - no revenge for Yip Goo Sing?

In the HAUNTED VILLA chapter of the LUK SIU FUNG saga, we are introduced to the siblings Yip Goo Hung, Yip Sheut, and Yip Ling - cousins of the Lord of the White Cloud Manor, Yip Goo Sing. Although their cousin was slain by Sai Mun Chui Sheut, none of the three ever expressed a desire to avenge their cousin. Why not?

what was their martial arts level?, comparable to yip goo sing? near him or way below?. maybe they didn't like their cousin. YGS didn't seem to be a warm person. the only friends he had was Lu xiaofeng and the guy who killed him, SMSC.

Yip Goo Hung, the oldest and the only male among them, was a fairly good swordsman for his age (20s), but far below Yip Goo Sing. Goo Hung's ambition was to challenge and defeat Sai Mun Chui Sheut (not to avenge his cousin, but just for the honor of being the best swordsman). However, after being easily defeated by Luk Siu Fung, and then learning that even Luk Siu Fung couldn't hope to stop Sai Mun Chui Sheut's sword, Goo Hung killed himself in despair...realizing that he could never realize his ambition.

Yip Sheut, the middle child, was the best swordfighter among the siblings. She was no match for Yip Goo Sing or Sai Mun Chui Sheut, but was still much better than her brother.

Yip Ling - we don't know how good her swordsmanship was. Her best skill seemed to be the seduction of men.

as was already pointed out, the level of swordsmanship among these siblings can't compare with yip goo sing (ye gucheng), so there's no point in seeking revenge. more importantly, IMO, there was no animosity between yip (ye) and sy moon chui shuet (ximen chuixue), and it was acknowledged that the duel was a "friendly" competition -- that is, if one has no objections to death being part of the package -- and an ultimate test of skill. martial competitions have always been part and parcel of being a top notch martial artist -- think of the battle of the 5 greats in LOCH.

To me, it also seemed odd that in terms of his swordsmanship and appearance, Yip Goo Hung seemed to use Sai Mun Chui Sheut as his role model rather than his own cousin, Yip Goo Sing.

I'm not sure if Ye Xue was really better than Ye Guhong - we don't get to see enough of both of them in action. Lu Xiaofeng is not a real yardstick because he never took his scraps with Ye Xue seriously anyway.

I suspect that they never bothered to avenge Ye Gucheng because they understood that it was the way of life for a swordsman. I recall somewhere in Phantom Mansion that Ye Guhong had already left instructions to Ye Xue and Ye Ling that were he to die in his duel with Ximen Chuixue they were not to take any retaliatory action as it was a fair duel or something. Both sisters were sad, but none even contemplated for a second sullying Ye Guhong's name by making it personal and going out to avenge him. The same will probably apply to Ye Gucheng death.

Yip Goo Sing was such a creature of solitude (much like his counterpart, Sai Mun Chui Sheut) in THE DUEL that I little suspected that he had extended family active in wulin, and then in THE HAUNTED VALLEY, we're introduced to a whole clan of them - not only the three Yip siblings, but also their father Yip Ling Fung, who had his own fascinating history as a traitor to the Mo Dong Sect. Gu Long established the connection between Yip Goo Sing and these other members of the Yip family, but didn't do much with it. The Yips of THE HAUNTED VALLEY chapter of the LUK SIU FUNG saga hardly ever even mentioned the name of their famous cousin.

Maybe because Ye Gucheng had disgraced his name (and his family's) with his plot to usurp the throne, so they were disappointed in him?

That's not a bad theory, but I'm not sure it's the case because after YGS's death, the people in wulin mostly remembered and spoke of him admiringly for his Flying Angel sword technique, and didn't really speak about his act of treason. Moreover, the Yip siblings, as members of Old Sabre Tyrant's gallery of rogues, were prepared to take part in plots no less nefarious than his, so it'd be a bit hypocritical of them.

Maybe because he got caught, then!
